I bought a Maytag Gemini gas double oven December 2005. I love it and have no regrets. I’m 72 now and sometimes my hip arthritis acts up from bending down for cooking tall tube cakes and baking for the holidays. I use both when making 100+ cookies. I use the upper oven for majority of baking other foods. At one point I was baking so much sweet stuff that: I burnt out the gas element, I had to have the gaskets on both doors replaced, my adult daughter wasted milk down one knob that made the cooktop stop working. I’ll be sad if my gas range has to be replaced. Especially if gas ranges are no longer available.
I love this! If you have to replace it, I'd recommend the Cafe [model CGS750P2MS1] featured in this video. Whirlpool/Kitchen [who now own Maytag] also offer an updated version of the Gemini as well [KitchenAid KFGD500ESS]
UPDATE Nov 29, 2023: Regarding the rear oven vent issue I described below in the last paragraph. I finally bought a piece of stainless steel and cut a piece 1 inch x 12-5/8” wide and pre drilled and attached with screws covering the 3 right rear vent openings facing forward leaving the vent openings behind them facing upwards open. Now I have NO ISSUE with the exhaust blowing across the right side burners and they now only blow upwards towards. I am very surprised I cannot find other people online mentioning this issue. First one delivered had about 15 stripped screws and one oven door hinge not working quite right. Almost all of the screws along the inner panel of one of my oven doors were stripped so the inner panel/glass would move and almost completely separate from the outer door panel. A bunch of screws on the back panels were also stripped and one of the electrical wires that was supposed to be behind the small rear panel was protruding between two sheet metal panels and the wire insulated was cut through to the wire as a result of the sharp panel edges. Also the GE repair person mentioned the whole side panel of the range needed to be removed to replace the hinge. So due to the issues I mentioned here and a few other issues, they sent me a new one. The new one only had about a handful of stripped screws, all on back panels which are not as important. Both ranges sent to me had the same issues as listed in the next two paragraphs. I have the GE Cafe CC2S950 gas range. From new(2020 or 2021), the front right burner on simmer up to number 2 setting where flame is still low would cause the sensor to think the flame is out and would activate all spark ignitions of all burners 1-2 times every minute. Cannot use it on simmer. Had tech out 3-4 times for this. They tried to add a ground cable to another burner (front left burner) and it seems to have helped. ALSO a very bad design flaw is that the exhaust vent for the oven, which operates when the oven is on and for several minutes after the oven is off, located at the rear right blows horizontally across the right two burners. If you are using those burners when the exhaust is operating, the blowing air will blow out the burners unless on medium to high flame. But then the flame is not uniform and dancing all over the place due to the exhaust air flow. To some extent, it also affects the flame on the middle burners. When the rear right oven exhaust is operating, I must use something thin and upright and police it at the rear of the right cast iron grate to block the airflow if using the burners on the right. The the exhaust will blow upwards. I use my stainless steel stove top round burner covers. No fix from GE. This is my first double oven and I love the double oven. Shortly after buying this gas model (I have always purchased gas ranges on the past 35 years), I learned of the hazards (the 3 different chemicals released that are hazardous to us) of the gas fired appliances, especially appliances where you will like be close to while operating such as ranges. Had I known this earlier, I would have purchased electric.

Honestly, it most instances it probably won’t get used often enough to get that dirty. 😉
@@appliancesexplained grease, crumbs, dust... it will get dirty... just like that bottom drawer in a single oven. This is just poor design.. who would wast their money for a sizable miss in usage?
@@sexymisssasha I had the Maytag Gemini his mentions and it didn't get dusty and gross like a utility drawer. I loved it. Yes, a bit inconvenient to have it low for lifting a turkey, but that isn't something done often. Also, my Maytag was self cleaning.
How does the top oven compare to an air fryer?
Unfortunately the top oven doesn’t have convection so it doesn’t really compare from a speed/performance standpoint. I believe the lower oven does have both convection and a no preheat air-fry function though.
This oven has air fry capability.
How to bake a cake here?
Thank you for this!! So helpful. I was debating whether to get a double oven or not and after watching your video I think the double one will be perfect for me. Really hoping I can get my hands on the Café (but induction).
Thank you! I’m glad I could help. ❤️
Since you mentioned that you use induction at home, you should really do a video on induction cooktop options and their pros and cons 🙂
I absolutely should. I’m on it. 😉
@@appliancesexplained I read the technology isn’t even there yet.
Only issue is the choice of no convection on the upper unit.
Is anyone making a (true) dual cavity 30 inch range with convection in the upper auxiliary oven?
I wouldn’t be able to stand up ending that far down, lol
After paying with an arm and leg, this stupid thing's panel is not working. Outta warranty, trying to find a repair video but no luck.
Did you try flipping the breaker?
