    300 six. One of Fords best! Pretty common in F250's and even F350's back then.

    The first thing wrong with those plugs was the brand name. Autolite goes on lawn mowers, I'd never use them in a vehicle! Looks like a damned good find overall.

      @@jamesmccoy4793 they've been around for ages and have served many a vehicle just fine, so ill have to disagree. Is there another plug you prefer for these old 300ci?

      Autolite plugs came in Fords if I'm not mistaking. And Motorcraft oil filters .

      Autolite is a Ford product. Motocraft or anything better

    • @Robert-tj3qq
      @Robert-tj3qq 2 месяца назад +1

      Motorcraft is the only oil filter to use in Ford's. They have slightly larger slots than the other ones. my 1986 F250 held 7quarts of oil . Deep pan and a wicked oil pump !! I differently used what they recommended !! That 86 is going for more money than I paid for it in 1990 today.

    I find it interesting a young guy wanting a old truck when new ones are selling just as cheap. The exhaust manifold gasket is tired, kind of like me, a old man of seventy four, owned a lot of these trucks when new. Of course being a kid then, I put in a larger V8 engine, ran the holy hel* out of them, literally in to the ground and yet for some reason..... they fought back and hard... they just kept going. I rather doubt that a new truck can take the abuse of a kid like I was doing to them. I get home from the army and of course, money is tight but hey, who cares, just wanted to have fun. I have a million stories, may be a stretch on a million but just trying to make a point. There are new pieces to make the top of the transmission stop from going to far and slopping around when trying for more higher gears. Its a wave washer if memory serves me right.... a easy fix by just removing the top of the transmission and replacing some simple fix items. Most importantly is make everything clean and moving freely. If you pay attention then you will see how it goes together and any rusty pieces holding it from working right. Small springs that hold tension on shift rods etc., it all makes a difference. Sadly ford did not make it easy for swapping parts from V8 to six or vise versa. Yeah, I am a old man now, live in alaska, born in forty nine, made a living as a mechanic for most of my life. Like all of us just trying to see where we fit into the scheme of things.... one thing you have going for you is date night. A lady will remember you care and might just make life a lot more bearable. Might find you have a lunch packed with a odd surprise or three. Oh yeah, I do remember those and those are mine only to remember.... a real man doesn't brag about what the lady of the shack put in the pail or what your sandwich was "Wrapped" in! Your going to learn more on this rig than you think you will. Like why so much room under the hood, why didn't they fill it full of plastic pieces that once removed never go back right.... yeah I could spend a day telling you my version of how it was then and how it is now. I am old and tired, and never answer questions for I am tired of people. I live alone with my dog and he is as old in comparison. We like it that way.

      @@morgansword thanks for your reply, story, and advice. Trust me, you definitely cannot get any newer truck for near as cheap as I got this. A lady just wanted it gone and it fell into my lap, as a coworker told me about it. I'm slowly fixing up things here and there, so I appreciate the advice on the shifter. I also will be replacing both door seals, of which I already bought.
