Y'know, despite the confusion in the final book, we gotta remember that this finale was in development hell for like 6-7 years, so I'll take it. Besides, it's still satisfying with great themes, twists, and the best art in the series. It kinda like a TV show ending like Gravity Falls, albiet not as good. It does feel good to read and the ending still feels deserved. Other than that, I like this channel, really underrated.
Stated this in a comment on a previous video, but Kazu Kibuishi actually got amnesia between books 5 and 6 as well as having to deal with the murder of his own sister. If the series fell off, there’s a logical reason for that, I’m sure.
@Luenzsaolgcflor Terrible murder. Look up Daniel Wozniak murder. Although it did occur before most of the rest of the series was published, I’m sure it had a lasting impact on Kazu.
I couldn't help but feel... disappointed? Confused? With the series from the moment that they went "Oh yeah, you know how we're fighting the elves and the evil mind gas monsters? We have spaceships, and a whole space UN"
I remember reading it and being a little caught off guard my least favourite parts of the series were always the space stuff and it sorta is what the last stuff became
I remember thinking from time to time “hey remember Amulet? Wonder how that ended…” crazy that its ending was so recent. If I had read this as a kid, I might have just been confused. There’s a LOT going on here.
Thank god I wasn’t the only person who was a little put off by the last book. God when I finished reading it I truly went “Well… that was a story” BECAUSE I DIDNT KNOW HOW TO FEEL
I definitely feel like this was a case of a writer being stuck between inspiration and continuity. He kept introducing so many new concepts every book while trying to keep older ones around but feeling rushed or out of nowhere. I can relate to enjoying just coming up with new inventive ideas and wanting to make it real (many of those later vistas and cities were breathtaking) but it did mean he had to constantly justify their existence and meant adding more and more elements to an already bloated story. And trying to justify why everything would turn space based and sci fi was a mistake once you remember the links to Earth were barely touched on and expanding this alternate world so much means earth barely had any significance until the very end when he suddenly remembered “oh yeah! Earth exists!” and rushes in the voice being a earth made creation that somehow exists in this world and there’s also robots somewhere that he works for. Again, I understand how it can get kinda hard to balance both sides of the creative process as it can be uninteresting just making generic fantasy. But it does lead to a story that feels like it didn’t really pay off what many put into it and especially one that took decades to end.
The last book didn't ruin anything by any stretch of the imagination, but it did feel like two or three books condensed into one. Especially with how quickly the whole elf king situation was resolved.
If you’re wondering why the last few installments have been all over the place, it’s because the author went through a hand injury halfway through developing this series and suffered through meningitis from trying to treat it, which resulted in him being place in a medically-induced coma to save his life. It prevented him from writing and drawing normally that still affects him to this day. He’s also been suffering from memory loss.
Amulet became batshit insane after like book six or smth but it was a fun ride even if the ride went off the rails. It deserved better, that's for sure.
I heard that the author was going thru some brain bacteria things irl, causing memory issues. That might be why the books got a bit more confusing later on.
I understand the author was going through a bunch of stuff, hence why it took so long for the final book to come out, but that doesn't change the fact that this was a bad ending. Characters who have been around from the start just vanish from the story entirely, and whole plotlines are abandoned. New characters and factions are introduced that serve no purpose to anything. A ham-fisted message about environmentalism is thrown in at the last minute, for some reason. And all the interesting fantasy stuff is tossed to the side and replaced with a bunch of science-fiction nonsense that does nothing but pad out the story and create a bunch of plot holes. It's bad. Like, really, really bad. And I cannot stress enough how much I dislike Gabilon. The guy keeping spouting off about how bad Stonekeepers are, while literally working for the most evil Stonekeeper in existence, and stealing hundreds, if not thousands of memories. He did nothing to earn being the new Elf King, and was a hypocrite throughout the whole story.
I remember finding the series alongside my friends in my school's library around middle school and just binging all the books. I think Firelight was the last book they had and after middle school the series stayed somewhat in my mind, I'd sometimes check online to see if the next book had come out yet, but I did read Supernova at some point after it came out. Waiting for Waverider definitely felt like an eternity though and I only found out it came out when I thought about the series again last year and saw it had actually released earlier that year. Despite it all, I like the series.
This feels like the author didn't wanna work on the story anymore but still liked the characters so wanted to put them in situations and drama they thought was fun. Or like..they had this plan and build up planned but also just wanted to be done with the project. Or had other projects he wanted to make but couldn't until Amulet was done? Idk
Well, as frustrating as they are, I wouldn't say they RUINED the series. I mean, massive inconsistencies have been a thing since book three. However, I will admit that book eight was a MASSIVE disappointment. Not to mention that book nine introduced a bunch of ideas that it did nothing with. It did end the series well enough, though. So, I'll take it. However, I would recommend any newcomers stop at book seven and draw their own conclusions to the series.
I hated the insane amount of plot twists and new characters in the last book, and the final fight was...really anticlimatic? But atleast the ending was satisfying and fitting.
To answer my opinion, to sum up why I was personally put off by the story was that the whole forgiveness angle felt a little forced or at the very least weirdly added, like the creator felt like he had to add something like that in there. but I still like the series despite the flaws and I hope that the creator might try to make a sequel series about the next generation to maybe explain the stuff that got shoved in the last volume better.
Sighhh... yep. I gotta say, I was kinda disappointed by this ending too. Once the series started leaning more into sci-fi, I was already losing interest because the fantasy setting was what drew me in in the first place. I'm okay with steampunk and magical technology, but it just felt weird to straight-up derail the plot from confronting the Elf King and resisting the Voice's influence to fighting shadow creatures on other planets with robots and aliens and... god it just felt so disjointed, like the author started with an obvious fantasy route, but then got hyperfixated on Star Wars halfway through and made that the plot instead. It's a shame this series ended the way it did, especially since some of the later books actually had some really gripping emotional moments. Still, I wouldn't NOT recommend it to comic fans as the art is fantastic all the way through.
Honestly, it did start feeling off around Book 6 or 7. Certain scenes like Emily's chess match with the Voice were seemingly dropped, and poor old Kronos got shafted. I didn't hate Max's death since it seemed like his whole thing was wanting revenge for Layra, who basically told him off. But he was definitely missed in later books. As for the whole shift to sci-fi, I'm definitely mixed. I liked the cool fantasy/steampunk setting they had going at the start. As soon as the spaceships and aliens started coming in, I felt super-lost. Nevertheless, if the accounts about the author's hardships are true, then I don't hold it against him. It's no Bone, but Amulet is still one of my favourite series.
Trellis going from this gremlin teenager 12:53 to this pretty boi 8:40 / 19:58 (that side profile sheesh), looking all baby faced all a’sudden 😔 idk what to say bro cute now? 4:36 Also whoooo is his father? I gotta knowwww, they brought this in for what 😭 leaving it a mystery
Really enjoyed learning more about this series through your vids!! My only memory of amulet used to be of just skimming it a few times in my public library’s childrens book section as a (ofc) kid, never really gave it a chance but I feel you’ve taken us on quite the journey and I now feel I haven’t missed out. I enjoyed every vid! 👌
Thecrater was doing what they felt like and maybe was inspired by towards the end I've seen other creators do this where by the end they get a bit more freedom with the story or I just feel that they should really want to write what they truly want and they do that and sometimes it's a good thing sometimes it backfires so bad people never want to associate with anything you create again 😂 I admit I do this where I'm writing a new stories for characters I like from other stories and mangas that I feel deserved a better story and I changed and flip flop all around with a different things and I want them to do A lot of creators do this this was a good story but that ending felt like the Creator got to the end and was like I'm tired of this I'm just want to write something else and they just gave us what felt like a ending that they was like oh this is good enough and I think if I was a kid and I read this ending I wouldn't have liked it Honestly I probably would have sat there and thought oh there's maybe going to be another book down the line Would you talk about the book series ekco
Wait David her father was never shown as David the Yoda mentors son, which looks like it was intended, given his son chose a normal life and makes sense in, that they are related actually. Even more if its very star wars inspired or fantasy. Its a really common beat. And wasnt ikoh from the void, not earth. If from an earthlings imagination? I mean its fine if he chills out and thats , an ok end, but weird to say he is from earth.
So maybe I just missed it completely in the video but did they never “defeat” Ikol and what happened to all the shadows attacking them and city? Was ikol the one controlling the shadows?? I’m so confused, I might just need to rewatch the video
book nine felt rushed plot wise, it feels like it was trying to do too much to wrap up the book, if this was made in short strips like a webtoon i think it would be a lot better

Dude, the art in these las5 few volumes we4e absolute peake, he just showed out for the finale. Also, am i the only one who was a le to follow the story? It didnt feel rushed or chaotic or didnt make sense to me at all. Maybe im just weird tho

His sister was murdered!?!?
@Luenzsaolgcflor Terrible murder. Look up Daniel Wozniak murder. Although it did occur before most of the rest of the series was published, I’m sure it had a lasting impact on Kazu.

That went in a direction I was not expecting. They just wanted to end the series without having to write more books I guess.
I distinctly remember these books giving me nightmares
I heard that the author was going thru some brain bacteria things irl, causing memory issues. That might be why the books got a bit more confusing later on.
This series were a great first 6ish books
7's aight
The books peaked in Firelights, and it was all downhill from there.
The final book wasn't a heroic sigh as we all watched the sun set, it was a wet fart into an industrial fan.
watching your channel and content grow through this series has been dope
It was an honor amulet...😭
i think the author took so long to finish the series that he forgot what he was writing about ToT

All the Emily X Trellis shippers were very disappointed to say the least 😭
Meh, I never shipped them anyways, so I couldn’t care less 😒
The fact he doesn't ever mention the fact the elf king's mask has spikes that stab into his face
Yeah, this ending has gotta be studied. I loved this series as a kid, but this just didn't hit like the other books.
