Mr. Beef is the one place I wish they would've gone, but Johnnie's, Al's and Pop's are elite for sure. Doing one with each of the Chicago guys was a great play. Well done as always.
I would put Frannie's & Chickie's up there before I would put Pop's, although it certainly deserves a mention. J&C Bombacigno's in the loop is only open during lunch time, and it is one of the most delicious and unique beefs in the city. One of the least talked about as well. I mention it to everyone because the owners are getting up there in age and I imagine won't be running it for very much longer.
growing up in Elmwood Park, 50s-60s we always went to Johnnies on North Av. for beef..also being Catholic we couldn't eat meat on Fridays, Johnnies offered pepper and egg sandwiches on Fridays...i'm craving one right now...
I grew up on that pops. Beef and mostaccioli for every family party in Mt. Greenwood. Able to carry that tradition out to the burbs now too with their Tinley and Mokena locations.
This reminds me of the old series 'Chicago's Best.' I used to watch that show on RUclips religiously. Chicago is definitely doing Italian beef, Pizza and Hot Dogs right!
Chicago has a tone of great beef sandwiches, but my favorite is Pop’s. I was introduced to this epicurean delight my freshman year of high school in 1983. I’m at the 127th & Harlem locations at least twice a week!
I discovered Johnnie's in the summer of 1990 when I started working at a commercial real estate appraisal firm in Chicago. We were out one morning looking at an industrial property in Melrose Park and after we'd done the inspection my partner said, "Now we're going to Johnnie's!" Been going there ever since. (And I went to Brother Rice, which the fellow from Pop's mentioned. Been there lot too.)
The Catholic SW Side battle/banter is arguably the greatest thing when it comes to parochial/city identity. I ain't even Irish or Polish and I love it.
So many good beef stands in the Chicago area. I grew up on the original Bouna Beef in Berwyn. Of the places shown, Johnnies is the best IMO. Can't say I'm a fan of Al's. They get way too much attention for a 'meh' product IMO.
Little Joe’s in Countryside is a must stop. Been around since 1969. If you are going to go to Pops on the South Side of Elmwood Park then nothing is stopping you from also hitting up Little Joe’s. Quick and easy on 55 South. An Als Beef literally opened up next door over 10 years ago and lasted only a handful of years. Little Joe’s is elite, just ask the community of the Western Suburbs.
The place my folks & I enjoyed for years was Carm's, they were located on Cicero Ave, Hillside, & 1 other spot, sadly they are no longer around, since I live in Florida, the hot dog stands I'll frequent have Italian beef sandwiches, all are good, I can't complain, even Portillos is good, Buonas is a good sandwich, but Carm's will always be my favorite, the bread was nice & crusty, I guess what I'll have to do 1 day on a trip to Chicago, is track down all the different places & do my own challenge of whose sandwich is the best!!
If you ever come to southern Maine, Riley’s bakery in biddeford has been there for over 100 years and honestly portland maine has a ton of amazing restaurants as well
@@eldoradomanchuria I don't go to Portillo's for their Italian beef, but I do go for other things like their chocolate cake shake, chopped salad and their beef-n-cheddar croissant sandwich.
When I was a kid my parents used to take me to Slicker Sam's for the baked clams every year on my birthday. They've been closed a long time now. In the city Mart Anthony's has pretty good baked clams but how about out there?
Best fries anywhere. For years and years they refused to offer catsup. I lived in that neighborhood 15 years right before gentrified. We go to Al's a lot as well as the other places in the neighborhood but most of our meals came from little old Italian ladies either bringing us food or insisting that we come inside for some pasta. It was unbelievable.
Pops, and als beef is a tie forsure! They're both awesome.. I live 5 minutes from that pops they where at... that ones close to evergreen Park or Beverly..or in between sorry. Lol.. i live in chicago ridge so yea 5 minutes away
Carl's dad 100% right on the degrees of seperation on the south side. ask a guy what parish they're ffrom and its almost a guarantee you are mutual friends with a family they know
i love when rone tries to make tommy a butt of a joke but the dude is such a goofball that no cares and loves him anyways. this series is perfect. food.
Mickeys beef in Bellwood does not get enough love. A little more basic beef, but it is tender juicy and flavorful. And great fries! Similar to McDonald's.
Buona & Portillos both have some top tier beefs. Tony's on 70th & Pulaski is certified bussin. Epecially the Corleone, thats one of the best sandwiches in the whole city. Also shoutout Nicky's. Pretty much any Nicky's you go to will have a good ass beef
Mr. Beef is the one place I wish they would've gone, but Johnnie's, Al's and Pop's are elite for sure. Doing one with each of the Chicago guys was a great play. Well done as always.
Pops has some good things but would never mention their beef in the same sentence as Johnnies and Als
I would put Frannie's & Chickie's up there before I would put Pop's, although it certainly deserves a mention. Mr. Beef on Orleans or on Harlem? I believe they are two different companies... not sure.
@@charlesfinnegan7930 Orleans

Was in Chicago a few weeks ago and finally had johnnies for the first time. Johnnies was life changing at a minimum
Another Tommy appearance in Neighborhood Eats, another sucess. The formula is ubeatable
okay, Tommy
I really enjoyed Neighborhood eats without him
But that is just Mr
🤝 Tommy and rone are awesome together
Can’t stand Tommy man

I keep thinking about the show The Bear since it's literally about an Italian beef shop in Chicago. Great show.
Thinking the exact same thing, “mr beef”
The Bear is filmed at Mr Beef in River North
Great show
Can't wait to visit Chicago to finally learn what a garage is.
Just get ready to party
Alleyways too
Find out what a fronch room and gangway are
Shoutout Pop’s. Carl’s dad is a true Southsider. Not surprised to hear the St Rita slander from some Rice guys
What's about the cubs t shirt tho 😂
I'm StL. I put Rita and BR tied in dead last.

Better than any food network show. Absolutely love the way ya execute these

Chicago has a tone of great beef sandwiches, but my favorite is Pop’s. I was introduced to this epicurean delight my freshman year of high school in 1983. I’m at the 127th & Harlem locations at least twice a week!
Try Tony's on 70th and Pulaski
By far one of the best shows on Barstool, great production value too
Carl’s dad needs to make another appearance! He is the perfect representation of a dad on the south side. Johnnies has my vote for best beef.
There’s a great old school video of his dad showing us his famous coleslaw recipe
Bruh south side is 90 percent black wtf u talking about? All these videos about Chicago with no black ppl is crazy white ppl like in the burbs

Neighborhood Eats is one of the best things Barstool does these days. Shoutout to Rone
Love Neighborhood Eats and The Chicago boys are The Best!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Johnnies combo has 'em all beat. This is because of the charcoal grilled Italian sausage
Agreed. / combo juicy from Al's on Taylor stacks up
Unfortunately they switched to gas either this year or last.
Quality content as always been loving this series! Should do a trip to Maine to figure out where the best lobster roll is.
"Lets go inside so we can see this guy's gun!" - PAUSE RONE but lmfaoooo
You guys need to try Roma's Italian Beef and Sausage on 4237 N. Cicero Ave. Excellent beef, and their giardinara is spot on perfect!
Yup!
Johnnies in EP is the best beef no doubt.
I love the St Rita disrespect
The Catholic SW Side battle/banter is arguably the greatest thing when it comes to parochial/city identity. I ain't even Irish or Polish and I love it.
