The first flight was by Gustav Whitehead in 1900, he had flown over 20 times by the time the wright brothers did their hop. The long flight footage of the wright brothers was only released in 1906, they claimed it was the WF1 when in fact it shows the WF2. No WF1 has ever flown successfully, whereas every Whitehead replica has flown successfully.
Any proof of this? The replicas of Whitehead’s machine that flew used modern engines and incorporated fundamental changes to the design. This proves nothing about the airworthiness of the original machine.
