The OP's not the bad guy and never will be due to the fact that his ex mom in law never saw him as husband material for her daughter and more prefer her daughter's ex boyfriend down the line, however the OP should see himself as a victim than as a bad guy because his ex MIL'S actions caused the marriage to come to an end and her niece came to help him out put his priorities in order in the long run and if anyone's the bad guy/bad girl in this unfortunate situation is the ex MIL thanks to her constant criticism and rumor spreading big time, so in the end she has herself to blame and no one else period.
It might have been a low blow, but the ex-wife truly wasn't ready to be a wife if she couldn't understand that her mother was ruining her marriage. OP tried his best to get her to see reason, a lot more than he had to and she refused to see reason. Since she refused to listen to her husband and just swallowed everything her mom gave her, she can only accept the unfortunate outcome.

What I will suggest strongly is you send out a letter via from your lawyer for cease and deceased with a public apology that you need plus get the lawyer to reach out to certain family members to get to their side of what this so-called Karen has been saying about you. And also please please please do not let this Karen woman ever close to your current family. She's crazy, just crazy. All The best and keep on trucking man.
I was never close to my mother but I remember when I married my husband she flat out refused to accept him because he's Asian and everytime there was a family holiday and I would bring him she'd try to make a scene in front of my family and I would get angry hold his hand and leave the last straw was when they all teamed up on me and demanded that I divorce him because they found me a handsome rich guy and I told them that I'm not leaving the man i love just to please them and if it's always going to be like this don't bother calling me because I'm not going to live my life like them now we spend time with his family and they're so sweet and innocent and accepted me and now we have our own family and happily married for 18 years now 😊
