- The High Speed Industrial Robot Omron Adept Quattro s650 robot handling steel ball bearings at high speed over a moving conveyor belt. This video demonstrates the unmatched speed of the Adept Quattro robot and technical achievements in robot system performance. This is more than simply motor speeds; to manage the robot doing this much in so little time takes a high performance motion controller, software, and electronics.
To the user this means increased product throughput, but not at the cost of control over the motions. Adept's SmartController CX and V+ programming language allow the management of the specific motions: speeds, accelerations and accel profiles, end-of-motion tolerances and behavior, etc. When manufacturers look at automation in a cost-per-pick analysis, being able to pick products faster and more reliably means an improvement to the bottom line.
The unique patented design of the Adept Quattro robot enables this level of performance with its four-arm parallel kinematic (known as PAR-4). This is differentiated from the three-arm delta style robots commonly seen in the industry. The four motors share the load and contribute to the motion, thus reducing the load on the individual joints and allowing greater speeds, higher payloads, and improved performance throughout the entire robots work envelope.

I've seen one of these in real life, its kinda creepy looking when it does that thing where it swings the head in a circle. Its like a huge robotic carbon fiber spider.
Actually, I think I may have seen this exact model, I was at the workshop of a company that made a white frame for one of these that is verrrrry similar to the one this one is housed in.

First loud noise i Believe is the suction system.
Whipping is probably just air whipping due to size n speed.
@L00NGB00W Good question. I think it's just showing range of movement there...it could be air whooshing, considering the large size of the robot and the area it's moving around in.

why 4 motors though? 3 is typically all you need.

This robot is not loud at all, the sound is generated by the bearing balls hitting the metal plate

Packaging, to be sure. Pretty much every time I see a delta or another parallel robot, it's packing or sorting something.

For accuracy.
It might have something to do with it's ability to rotate, or it might just be for more power (allows greater acceleration and speed) and accuracy.
4th servo gives another degree of freedom, look at 1:10 and thereabouts. I guess it might be better to have 4th parallel arm rather than rotating head or central transmission plunger

It always knows where the balls are and doesn't have to calculate anything original on the job. It would be more challenging to make it catch balls that can roll away.
