Notes:-
Development of Monocot embryo
1) First the zygot undergoes transverse division and Get converted into 3 celled stage which consist of ypper terminal cell, middle middle cell and lower basal cell.
2) Basal get helps in the absorption of all nutrients and get swollen and enlargewhile the middle cell have avery significan function i.e. is helps in the formation of Radical, plumule, suspensory cell, epicotyl and hypocotyl and terimal forms the cotyledon( very thin and without endosperm).
3) Now, this 3 celled structur undergoes rapid development and the middle cell form the embryonal part( embryonal axis) where as terminal cell develops in to cotyledon.
4) The Embryonal cell consist of Plumule at the upper end which is covered with the coleoptile and lower lateral end consist of the radical which is coverd with the coleorhiza. Beside this there is apresence of suspensory cell.
5) Later on , the basal cell and suspensory cell gets degenrated and the only part left is cotyledon and Embryonal cell.
6) The cotyledon does not consist of any reserved food material.
Here, in case of maize the cotyledon obtain food from the starchy endosperm and then is supplied to the developing embryo.
