2023 Lexus IS 500 - This Sedan Shouldn't Exist

- In this video, I review the brand new 2023 Lexus IS500 and in my opinion this car shouldn't exsist. Lexus stuck a thirsty v8 inside a small sedan. Why? Check out the IS 500's exterior, interior, features, hear about the drive and its powerful engine and exhaust.
Please don't compare this wonderful sport sedan V8 with any SUVs. This V8 with almost 500 hp gets 20 mpg is decent, and if you can find an old-school-V8-sport sedan with this much fun, value, and reliability, please buy it. Your title should be "the sport sedan should exist forever!"
Yes this seems like a strangest review
Just got mine a couple of weeks ago and this is literally the perfect car. I can't say enough good things about it. Alot of people don't seem to understand it for some reason and I was a bit worried while waiting that when I got it I would have issues with it, like alot of reviewers. Once having it though all I can say is these reviewers are all crazy, this is far and away the best car in its segment. (I'm coming from a 340i BTW and have driven an RS3 a bunch)
28 mpg during my 470 mile road trip.
@@85CEKR What makes this the best car in the segment?
@@MercOne first and foremost the engine, the B58 (I would say the next best engine in this segment) is a decent engine and does have way more tuning options but in stock form isn't nearly a satisfying as the 2ur-gse. And I won't last nearly as long. To me the quality also seemed noticeably better than the other cars I test drove and have owned. Everything is so tight and firm with no flaws in the fit and finish anywhere, that I can find anyways. The rest is subjective like the looks, ride, comfort etc. but I found that all to be much more to my liking than it's competitors.
I got mine two weeks ago with black exterior and red interior and I love it , I don’t even drive it that much I just let it sit there in a garage and look at it everyday and admire the beauty of it .
Drive it sir life is short
Life is not short ! Explain all the older cars getting to 300 k miles and are now junk 🤣 you can definitely outlive a car sir
@@austinkusnier6164 my point is that we are not guaranteed every day. So a car Can out live us too
A car can kill you the more you drive it the more chance you have of death 😭 good point sir
Congrats friend ❤
v8 will last longer then any turbo car
Not any, but most. I have a sprinter vam with 241k miles. Never had a simglem mechanical issue.
@Ryan Crawford but your spelling has issue.
@@ryancrawford8042 thats great to hear. im more talking about age then mileage. but im happy you have got a lot of miles out of it with no issues :)
Toyota Supra MKIV has entered the chat...
I placed an order for this car for the V8. I know that a lot of v8 are being phased out but Lexus/Toyota make solid naturally aspirated v6 and v8. I would rather have that than a turbo charged v6 or turbo inline 4 cylinders. Cant wait to get my IS 500!
Hope it comes in sooner rather than later!
Congratulations, this is my dream car right now. I wanted a m340i but I think this car is better than that after seeing both in the wild.
@@kw7814 - The current version of the IS *super* pretty! Definitely one of the best looking sedans out there, I hope you’re able to get one too!
@@blu_is500 yeah for sure, I saw an IS350 and a LC500 driving around and I couldn’t stop looking at them because they looked so good. I heard they’re redesigning the IS model lineup for the 2024 model year so I’m excited to see what’s in store for the lineup
You won’t regret it!!! 👍
Cars like these still need to exist. Because people that like these cars are buying this.. everybody is not buying in to boring SUVs.
I don't know why the reviewer is comparing the IS 500 with SUVs. Different populations opt for each car type. Those looking at IS 500s don't want to be stuck in an SUV. Those buying SUVs usually abandon their smaller sports cars (often reluctantly) because of larger families. Although, some keep their performance cars to escape once in a while.
Pushing more horsepower on a smaller engine with supercharging or turbocharging puts more stress on the engine, requiring more maintenance, i.e., more cost. That's good for manufacturers.
That blue is great. Also v8s are not necessarily disappearing due to demand so much so as at least the US government is literally mandating that they have higher fleet avg mpgs which necessitates replacing the displacement down to turbo vacuum cleaner engines.
I own a launch edition and boy it’s a great vehicle not to mention appreciation on these long term will be fantastic
This car is perfect and I’m glad that it does exist.
To me, it's crazy how people complain about the price considering it's less than a C43 with the same options
It is definitely too expensive because all it has is reliability at a huge compromise elsewhere
Don't forget to mention, with higher reliability!
@@jamiesmith6838 Lexus is 1,000,000% more reliable than any Mercedes. The only problem is, for anyone to really benefit from that Lexus is if they keep it forever, which becomes boring as hell, and newer cars tend to become more and more advanced and better looking as well
Newer cars are boring and unreliable. That's why people keep trading up. Funny how people turn off these "advancements" so they can do burnouts and drifting.
V8's are quite popular. Government regulations are not.
Lexus biggest fault is making this vehicle look too similar to the regular IS🤦🏻♂️
That's the best thing about it, it's a super sleeper. It's a fantastic looking car in person, I love how the hood bulge and quad exhaust are subtle differences that stand out to people that know what they are looking at but the average person has no idea.
@@85CEKR haha I'm thinking of debadging my IS500 just for that reason. Will make people look twice
I love the sleeper effect, IYKYK
@@xochilquetzal18 haha swap it out with an is300 badge to really confuse people
Sleeper? No it’s not. The m340i is a proper super sleeper
I just picked up one of these in Iridium with the white interior a month ago. I absolutely love it. It is a beauty when cruising in Eco and a beast when in sport+. I love this car!
I drive the car the way it’s meant to be driven; so I average 14 to 16mpg, but I don’t care. Why? Because the SPMs (Smiles Per Miles) are immeasurably high. Hell…Shell Pump #5 has been added to the Christmas Card list. 😈😉 Thanks for posting.
Plus this thing will give you 200,000 miles. Easy.
Don't think of getting 200 thousand miles out of a BMW Mercedes or audi
Sold my F10 M5 about a year before I bought a ‘23. Didn’t buy it bc I thought it would compete with an M car. I bought it for the NA V8, gorgeous styling, analog feel and reliability. Red light races & freeway pulls are fun - but dealing with constant repairs gets old.
That blue paint and engine note are sublime.
Good review but I don't believe you should ever compare this car to any suv, atleast compare to other similar sport sedans.
Yeah that was stupid...
Totally different class of vehicle.
My goodness what an absolute beast of a car. Beautiful! I love that blue. That's the color and car I'm looking into buying soon!
I wish i could post a pic of mine in the comments lol, best car ive ever had although im young and haven’t had many cars yet but this is deff my best one yet, love this thing!
I love the white interior. But I wear jeans and the dye transfer from blue jeans comes off on the seats
Your reviews all real and unscripted. I like that.
I have the Premium, and I can't imagine it any other way. There is something about a rowdy V-8 sedan with a... rear sunshade that just perfectly sums up this car. It is a comfy luxury cruiser but also can be a barrel of monkeys on a back road.
looking at an IS 350 f sport tomorrow morning, i kinda wish they made something in between the 350 and 500 in terms of power, and performance!
@@dbased1915 True. It's such a leap to the 500 from the 350. I owned a 350 before my 500. What I will say is that both cars deliver their power smoothly, so sometimes the 500 doesn't feel as fast as it is - just like the 350, but MORE. 😁
@@ARentz07 i ended up getting the is350 f sport, and liking it so far, so smooth, all the features i want, it's silver with the red interior which took a while to find
Waiting on my Grecian Water 500 to be delivered next week! That color is so nice, glad I held out for it.
Is this one he is driving a grecian or ultrasonic?
I have an IS350 and I love it. I would buy the Lexus IS500 in this color without any hesitation if it came with an manual. Now I am looking to buy the 2024 Mustang GT with the manual instead. It's not quite Lexus quality but I really enjoy manual driving.
The mustang is 100% a better performance car. Lexus is a great car in all I have a 2015 gs350. There reliable but I wish it was faster
The Lexus IS 500 is one of the fastest selling cars for 2023 lol. Full disclosure, on the used market. But either way, these cars have a high demand. And we want more. V8 ftw
I have the is 300 awd 2020 in all black 3.5 v6 fun and quick to drive
I want this exact spec. Hopefully one day!
This needs to exist. That's what the title should say
More cars like this should exist at a more reasonable price W v8
Exactly outdated infotainment and you’re spending more at the pump?
Great review. Excellent choices made in your descriptions. As an entry level luxury/compact executive sedan on a rwd chassis, from toyota... before you sit in an IS or Altezza, expect a space between a rwd Corolla and a Supra, w/LS materials... never dissapointed. Great space (unless you are large, tall, or both) great rwd dynamics, phenomenal toyota reliability
But at the expense of being outdated and not very fast
@@naveenthemachine but reliable af, the money you save on repair bills is worth that concession
@@JonathanLittle001 but remember that most people lease luxury cars. Even if they buy them they won’t keep them for more than 5 years anyway
@@JonathanLittle001 plus it’s not like a bmw Mercedes Audi Volvo genesis will all break overnight. They aren’t land rovers you know
@@naveenthemachine id take a stress free 5 years any day
I randomly searched this car and was surprised to find my man George. Forgot you had this channel def sub
i personally dont like white seat as they get dirty much quicker and it stains, I'm really curious how does it hold up after couple of years of aging. Does it turn brown? does it turn yellowy?
Fuel efficiency?
I took my IS500 on a 980 mile road trip and averaged 27.8mpg
No you didn’t
Good review. Need one now
If they can buy this , they don’t give the f for fuel , and it’s a collection , is F is old but everytime I saw someone drive it I still take a look at it and feel lil bit special
Police car on shoulder at 5:26 is golden 🎉🎉
I totally agreed with you ! why they put a V8 into a 4 doors nowadays ? when it comes to Toyota Lexus most drivers are going for saving....well 2 Doors sport coupe is different.
I have 17,000 fun and trouble-free miles on my 2022 IS500. It's a great car. I get 20mpg combined which is better than the 13mpg I get in my GX460.
Jesus man, what’re you doing in the GX??? Putting it on the track? I get 17.5 without much effort in mine. Check the tire pressure and engine air filter lately?
@@lpwhatlp LOL I think a lot of the mpg drop is due to wife waiting for kids in school driveline. On a recent trip from Dallas to College Station, TX, we got about 18mpg as it was all highway. Tracking a GX. . .now that's a terrifying thought. That said, last night at 1:00 am taking daughter to school for her 8th grade trip, I had to evade someone in the GX who'd ran a red light and thankfully we avoided the collision, the vehicle was stable and the Toyota safety features worked perfectly.
you make it sound like there are anymore sedans being bought, I see a ton of brand new Accords , Civics, Mazda 3's , Corollas
Nice comprehensive review of a forgotten car.
Forgotten? Weird thing to say.
@@ARentz07 The IS500 is very much a forgotten car in the industry. There wasn’t much hype, advertising or fanfare about it when released. The fact that it’s a small V8 sedan that retails for $60K-$70K makes it less attainable for most people
NOOOO - that curb rash at 3:43!
Actually, it's better. Less & cheaper visits to the service centers is Always better! That means a higher Fun vs Fix ratio!
Afterall, who's really driving 160+ on public roads?
I'd opt for the awd 400.
I have a black and blue f sport. Love them.
So, I am assuming that this car, which is the same size as a M3 is, has the same HP as a Base M3 has, but is nowhere as fast because the M3 has the Turbos while this car is Naturally Aspirated? Is that it? It is better lookin than the M3/4s are to me and 4.5 in 0-60 is plenty fast for daily driving too, enough to get you in trouble anyways...
Those are lightweight forged BBS wheels
I've been driving SUVs for a long time. I had a 2020 Lexus NX 300 until I was rammed and the car was totaled. I took the insurance check to the Lexus dealership and bought a 2017 GS350 AWD. I'll never own another SUV. I forgot how nice it is to drive a sporty sedan. Just wish it was the F. 😊
Yo....didn't know CryptoRus does car reviews....We are all George 😂
If I had a dollar for every indie “car reviewer” who starts his review with “SUVs are replacing sedans” I’d have enough to buy this car.
Not sure why this car compares to the Suv., people buy this car for what is is and not for fuel efficientcy. I dont know if there is any sport v8 sedan that fuel friendly lol.
What a asinine take/reasoning to why this car shouldn't exist.
Enjoyed your Presentation. Thanks
I wonder why all the people keep saying everyone buying SUVs, well its because the auto industry trying to force these crossovers and SUVs on everyone. I love the sound of a V8, but all these Turbocharged V4/V6 engines will have issues once those Turbos go bad.
This review is spot on! 👍
Nice car, but the transmission is probably the weakest point for this car.
This review shouldn't exist. Why don't you do a review on why Porsche GT3s shouldn't exist, while comparing it to a minivan.
How is the AUTO LANE CENTERING ADAP CRUISER CONTROL???
Why do you need a V8 when a V6 with turbos produces as much if not more power?
V6 turbos have more parts and add more stress on the engine, increasing the likelihood of more repairs.
This car is genuinely made for a early 20 year old dude that wants reliability, luxury, and a V8. If I didn't get employee pricing on GM products I'd buy this car in a heartbeat.
So why isn't this the car for you? Maybe I missed it, but I don't think you ever explained why you wouldn't go for this car.
God i hate present day SUV's
Is the color accurate in this video? Seems darker and richer than all the other vids and pics I've seen of grecian water.
I know right? This looks much better, i want this exact color.
No f'n way I'm thinking about purchasing an is500 and find out "I am George, we're all George" also reviews cars, my mind is BLOWN! 🤣🤣🤣
What color is this? Grecian Water or Ultra Sonic Blue Mica?
Sonic blue I presume
Grecian Water
That's the least they could do after discontinuing the GS 😂
The suv hype is not gonna last trust me lol sedans will forever be better and desired by most people
Got a little bit of curb rash on the right front wheel.
Damn! The blue look nice
Great review
Why is this guy comparing a performance sedan with SUV's ? That made absolutely no sense to me.
This car isn’t for the masses, it’s for the enthusiasts who know in their soul future generations won’t get to enjoy a beautiful motor and it’s sound. Why bother reviewing this car if you’re just going to talk about what mainstream basic people want? Stick to basic cars for your reviews then.
What happened is the auto industry is forcing the SUVs and Crossovers on us whether we like it or not. Plus they way more expensive than cars to maintain.
what color is that because it is georgous
Which blue is this the grecian or ultasonic?
Is this ultrasonic blue?
Overall a good V8 sedan, but it's an old platform underneath. Lexus needs to redesign its IS line.
Drive one, you'll change your mind real quick.
@@85CEKR no he won’t. Once he drives a g70 or m340i the Lexus will be dated
It's an old platform because it works, they added more weld contact points and beefed up the rigidity. Improvements are better than changing to new and unknown sometimes.
@@naveenthemachine went from a 340i to IS500 the lexus is so much better I literally have nightmares about getting my 340i back lol.
@@Rockdog333 exactly people get so caught up in the "latest and Greatest" when sometime the greatness has already been achieved and really the new thing is just new and maybe different, not necessarily better. I think a lot of things fit that nowadays.
I'll take this over a BMW or Mercedes. 🤷🏻♂️
Is this the ultra sonic blue?
Yes, please don't compared this beautiful muscle small beast with a everyday, average everyone has one SUV because this car set u apart.
Toyota is always right.
HK. Nice!
If you would've added a manual trans, it would sell like hotcakes.
How exactly does a V8 honk?
the difference between this and the germans is they become money pits the lexus wont
I don’t know why they didn’t just make this a full F car instead of Fsport ! All they needed to do was add break vents like the RCF and a vented hood . Maybe some carbon fiber on the interior . They sure are charging the price of a F car . A Mustang GT can easily keep up a Chevy Camaro SS can easily beat it and forget Audi RS5 or M3/4 cars even a M2 will beat it and it’s cousin the Supra can keep up no problem . So then what are you getting in this car other than boring old reliability 😅.
Supercharge it and it will dust all of them...
NOBODY buying SUV like you think. Gas is out the roof. 20 mpg is great for v8 sedan. People fresh out of college buys these cars and men who want to look good and man handle the roads and men who only been married less than 10 years wants this car when they had to give up their Mustang or Camaro buys this car.
You said Lexus will not sell alot of these cars bc they purposely didnt make alot of them.
I respect your opinion. As long you have BMW 4 door race cars you should have Lexus representing Japan power !
What colour is this?
They will sell every one of these that they make. Some people do not want blazing hot turbos with a short life span under their hoods
Yes it's looks good but don't dare comparing it to the bmw M5 , plz don't 😅
It's the Japanese Luxury Muscle car, the luxury muscle that Cadillac could make but didn't.
Lexus reliability, I think you failed to mention that.
what is the blue called?
Fun and RELIABLE.
That makes it better than the Germans in my book.
"big honking V8"
>> only 5.0 L
This thing has the power of a scatpack with the MPG of a v6.. your criticism is unwarranted LMFAO
Sedans are very popular 😎
anyone buying a muscle car isnt thinking about fuel efficient.
Might feel like sacrilege but this or acura tlx type s?
Buy this not the Acura
Im poor but not for long $xrp😅...my eyes are still on the 2014 IS F when i sell $xrp only gonna cost me 24k-30k California expensive
I’d get the IS F before this IS500 good luck and enjoy it ! Worth every penny
i guess we will never know which Lexus blue this car is
Grecian Water.
It's Grecian❤ water. Ultrasonic blue mica is darker. Watch Cars with Sonduren review of IS 500. The IS 500 is ultrasonic blue mica in that video.
The title is right, it shouldn't exist. It is not a sports sedan. Weak handling, weak steering, and weak acceleration. Lexus missed the boat on this one.
If you say big honking v8 one more time I might actually believe it’s a big v8
Same price as what you expect to pay for like a civic type r or a corolla Gr
