As a 5 year minimalist, this is my go to channel before crashing, as I can easily relate and agree to everything you teach here. There are some rough days, where laziness overpowers discipline, but, by listening and following your tips always help to be back on track. Tonight, I was able to fold my clothes, organize my wardrobe and arrange stuff after coming back from a 2 week vacation. Thank u, Seve and this channel. More power 🎉❤😊
Wow, I really like these tips! The one-minute rule seems simple, but it’s actually very effective for keeping the house tidy. I’m going to try implementing the weekly cleaning habit; it will definitely help reduce stress! Thank you for sharing these wonderful ideas!
Hello Seve, thank you for this. In my home, we have a no shoes rule as well. I wash our dishes daily, and I agree with opening the mail and dealing with it immediately. I am getting better at being more mindful with my purchases. Oh! I like your planter/vases with the faces so beautiful.
Hi Seve, In Canada: (read: Montreal) Yes, shoes left at the door and not inside. In the winter, you not only have snow, water melt, you have the grit that they spread on the sidewalks and intersection crossings and at entrances to buildings, that grit gets stuck in the soles of your shoes/boots, and if you bring shoes/boots in further than the front door, you get all that crap all over your proper floors. I have bought carpet squares that I have on the floor at the front door, and a drop point for wet shoes and boots, so that we don't bring "Wet" into the apartment. Even when you leave sodden shoes/boots at the door, that little pain in the butt grit tends to get scattered all over the place, and I end up sweeping and swiffering, more often during the winter !! My "Rule of the Kitchen" Clean as you cook. We don't have a dishwasher, it's all manual. If you clean your dishes as you cook, then after dinner, there are very few dishes to wash, like the dishes and items you used during dinner. Holiday dishes and pots/pans, can really stack up, so I try to clean as I cook, as I am able. And we split dish washing chores, which works very well. We keep a set of every day dishes in the drainer, along with a few coffee cups. We don't keep any other dishes in the drainer, they are put away once washed. Holiday dishes are only uncrated for the holidays, and we have one set of "Dinner" dishes we only use for dinner. Our kitchen cupboards are organized with food stuff/dishes/plastic ware/large gathering items. I am also a huge stickler about having a clean bathroom. We clean the sink/toilet every day. I scrub the walls around the sink enclosure and cabinet beneath often. And the tub/tub enclosure also gets scrubbed down every week. I can't stand walking into a room, and seeing "Mess." Drives me crazy !!! Whomever makes the mess, cleans the mess.
Oh yeah I know that feeling in the winter when the snow melts from your shoes and then you step on it with just socks on 😂 luckily we have here some "brushes" next to doors downstairs so we can clean most of the snow away before even stepping into the apartment building. Helps a lot. Thanks for sharing your thoughts! 😊
I often wish I would have been born a stickler with an eye for all details. I never have been. Jeremy and Seve you all sound exacty like my mom and granny, that's how they kept the household in order. I have had a long life with no problem remembering a lot of small details, kind of just stuck my hand into a messy drawer hand, there was the scarf I looked for, and there in that summer-bag was my address book that I used six months ago, just as I thought, and in a big stack of papers I could find a years old bill, if I wanted the phone number to the right person in the company... but now with age I'd really need a system 'cause my memory feels overloaded and leaky. Thank you for smart lessons on how to do it. I wonder if I'm able to learn anymore?
@@DNA350ppm Start with 1 room. And begin there. Get some organizing boxes, sort the paper, collect the phone numbers and such: Digitize them into your digital address book, then toss all that paper. Clean out that messy drawer. Get rid of what you don't need, and only keep that which is important. Don't bring messy shoes inside the apartment proper. Don't stack dirty dishes. Some of us don't have dishwashers. The less you have to clean later, the better. They say, if you are wanting to change your life, start simply. One Room at a time. That keeps it manageable.
@@jeremy1350 Thank you so much for caring to reply! Funny thing, we have been minimalizing into living in just a studio, the three of us, hubby, and doggy and me😀 - but now it is crammed by and by, all four of our parents have died and left us so much good memories! But true, one part of it at the time - like if a part was a room, that's what I gotta to do, and the drawers are on their way of getting organized. Thanks for your patient attitude, it helps! No dishwasher here either, but we do have a washmachine of our own, which is worth a whole room, as it makes life so much easier! When we lived with more living space, but a shared washroom for the whole appartmetn complex, I hated it, that I was the only one to take care of the space and the machines properly, both before and after my turn to wash! 😇
I was wondering why I have become so enamored with your channel. Then it hit me today. It is because we are so similar in our life approaches. I take off my shoes inside, I do not like clutter, I like having an uncomplicated routine, pay my bills immediately, our homes look almost similar (except you have more plants), I like soft calming lighting, and so on. Maybe you did cover it in a previous video but I'm curious to know what you like to eat. Take care Finnish runner brother.
That's great to hear! 😊 I like to eat basically anything vegan haha. I've been fully plant-based for 5 years now. Definitely healthier than I was before that
@@SunnyKindJourney Wow, this is interesting about our approaches because I was vegan for a long time until quite recently as I was struggling with low good cholesterol levels and potassium malabsorption. I now add to my largely vegetarian cuisine, Portuguese sardines in tomato sauce, organic locally hatched eggs from my community food co-op, and Swedish filmjolk (sold in the USA by the Siggi's brand).
Excellent advice. Just the smallest amount of clutter whether it be in my kitchen or bathroom counter can make me feel as though my life is cluttered. I always need advice like this and I appreciate what you are doing. Thank you so much.
Yeah, I feel the same. I mean, I don't want it to make me feel like I am not doing well in my life, but I don't want to just not do anything about it either. Easier to just take care of it 😉
I'm the opposite, so I'm a hard case to teach, I'm afraid - but I do admire all of you with your tidy instincts. I care very much about cleanliness and hygiene - but I can focus and concentrate in a creative chaos, as my father could, in his garage with thousands of things around with no system to them other than that were he'd left them after last using them. I remembered my books as if they were my children - now I've started to feel overwhelmed by all changes, and I hate it when my books have been moved to "foreign locations" and I search for them where they once upon a time were safely placed to be handy... 😇you may laugh!
I just ran into your channel as I begin my minimalist-ish journey. I love all the helpful advice you have to offer. You have lovely energy and I look forward to exploring your channel! Thank you!
In the UK it is considered impolite to NOT offer to take your shoes off when you enter a home. Many times people will say its ok, but most people will ask you to take them off. It's a culture of politeness and respect.
Thank you very much for so generously sharing glimpses of your arrangements and everyday organization - truly inspiring and a visual food for thought. 🍁🍂🍁

Im in Australia and now adopted the habit of shoes off when we come in. We now have indoor shoes (slippers/thong like). I put shoes to the side of the door rather than in front to avoid tripping over them! Most Australian households are shoes on though.
I really enjoy your content! How do you go about getting guests to remove their shoes when entering your home? Do you have an alternative for them or they just walk around in socks? We want to make this change in our home but are not sure how it will be accepted by some guests
They just walk around in socks, that's the norm here in Finland and everyone is used to it. So hard to say how to go about it in a different culture, maybe have extra slippers that look super comfy so people actually want to wear them? :)
It really makes me uneasy seeing films etc from the US or the UK where they keep shoes on indoors, even put them on the sofa or even the bed! Horrific.
More and more people in the US take shoes off at the door, at least in the northern part of the US where I live. When I was a child (66 now) we never did, snow boots yes obviously.
When it takes more than four or five minutes to find something I should be able to lay my hands on in less than a minute it’s past time for me to clean. Clutter steals your energy.
Hello Seve, Great and helpful video, thank you so much! Given that thanks to minimalism and conscious consumerism, we can make more savings, may I ask what are your thoughts on ISA investments etc? Is it worth it in your opinion? Many thanks!
That's great! So regarding ISA, it's a UK thing (I think) so it's for me hard to say if it's a wise way to invest or not. I suggest watching videos from uk based creators that specialize in personal finances and investments 👍🏼
Heeyy I just got my dentist bill and paid it immediately, added the envelope to the other paid bills and closed the closet. No mind clutter also feels good.
Seve, help me. i am in my journey to extreme minimalism. I recently got a water flosser hoping it will help my teeth. But i don't see any results. Should i get rid it? I want to put all my belongings into a backpack. The water flosser is bulky and slightly heavy. I would want as much light as possible. Because my back hurts if i carry heavy things. What's your opinion on water flossers?
To be honest, I have zero experience in them so hard to say. Is the your perception of not seeing any results based on how you see things with your eyes or have you visited a dentist recently and they told you that your situation isn't any better? Many times we can't see the progression ourselves so I wouldn't maybe give up on it too quick but also realize that if you don't use it all, then maybe it's becoming clutter and you may need to find another approach. But I am no dental expert so use better sources for this one haha 😄
