  • The Puget Sound Model was designed and built in the early 1950s by Clifford Barnes and John Lincoln at the University of Washington School of Oceanography. This video describes its construction and operation. The model is still used as an educational and research tool for understanding Puget Sound currents and physical processes.

There is a second of these models located at Pacific Science Center (or at least there was for many years; I haven’t been there recently) that still operates with the analog computer. For another more-recent model of surface circulation in the Peugeot Sound check out the Salish Sea Modeling Center channel on RUclips- ruclips.net/channel/UCSJG0849Z7em6g-VGG6jurg
