Thank you so much for posting this. My assignment this week from my music teacher was to deconstruct the baseline on the song, to help me understand song structure, as a guitarist. This helped tremendously.
A very tasty performance where I think you captured the spirit of the song. A fretless is the best way to play it because the phrases are very melodic with a lot of sliding around. Try adding quick vibrato at the end of some of the longer held notes. Also, you could use an Octave Divider to add in that lower octave note that Tony Levin gets from the Chapman Stick that's used on the recording. His bass line is in my top ten all time best.
Noam, thank you! I have been wanting to figure out the bass line, and now I don't have to! I owe you, buddy. (I'm playing it on my new Roland RD2000, fretless and/or slap bass set on the left side of the keyboard, and some keyboard or other in the right for chords and melody. I LOVE this tune. So, again, thanks for the gift!)
Dude, awesome video! I shifted it a bit to play on an electric upright and it sounds fantastic. I dig that bass too. Just out of curiosity, what year is it? I ask because I have a late 80's Japanese Fender Power Jazz Bass Special and the layout on yours looks pretty much identical to mine (although mine has standard frets, hence the shift to my upright). Anyway nice work, it helped me out quite a bit.
im not sure i understnad, any way...the problem with this video is not the video but the fretless guitar that dont have frets, so it's kinda hard to see what exact notes im playing so you need to use your ears, if the tutorial is to fast you can slow it sown in the youtube window... if that dosnt work im sorry... i wish i could have helped:)
No need to apologise Noam, learning is about using your initiative. if someone has a decent knowledge of the fretboard the notes can be worked out from the video. Keep up the good work man.

This is a great bass line. Just looking at different attempts your tone is very good, I'm impressed!

Tony is playing a Music Man Sabre on Sledgehammer run through an Octave Divider. He only plays stick on Big Time on So.

Nice! I'm pretty sure I have the same bass but with frets, 80's MIJ JBS, it's a beast! Bass on bro!

בן אדם אתה מנגן מדהים!!
Flawless, great sound
Great Playing. Musical AF.

2 THINGS..GREAT BEAUTIFUL BASS, AND SECOND,...WOW YOU CAN PLAY. i WAS THINKING THIS WAS EASY AND NOW YOU MADE IT MORE DIFFICULT FOR ME. :-(
Elvin hope you have fun🙏🏻 and thanks🌈
YEP!

Wayne’s world
Missing a substantial amount of stereo chorus! :)
hola faltan mas notas ,dale mas alegria
This is a cover, not a tutorial. Tutorials tell you what the notes are as opposed to trying to figure them out.
shuckins the tutorial starts at 2:06
shuckins you are wrong he slows it right down making it easy peasy to learn if u r any good at playing basd

Shuckins, you need to play by ear,as well as get the notes down. If you don't you'll miss out on a lot and always be dependent on others.
Slightly out of tune on high notes, good job though
Good try, but not quite right.
