I agree with Peter, don't sell it, you should let it be adopted under what is from this point forward known as 'Bobby's Classic Car Law!! Your rights under this new law are: You must be allowed 'visitation rights'. They are awarded to the parent (in this case Bobby) who no longer has custody of their child. Furthermore, it is the right of the child (Consul Capri) to have access to its parent which includes the biological mother (Bobby). The Mother's visitation rights therefore grant them the opportunity to spend as much time with their child as they require to live a happy life. Great video Adam, keep them coming.
No I didn't get to own one. By the time I got to age 17 I got the motorbike bug that lasted 30 years. I always remembered how beautiful that car was though.
This was our family car in the early 70s, as a child I loved it and it was so beautiful and different to everyone else s car. Family holidays on m6 up to Blackpool. Me and my older sister in the back on the bench seat. My father kept it until the seatbelt law came in and then he sold it and got a Vauxhall viva estate car, Vauxhall was not the company then, like they are today. The consul was very sorely missed and is still mentioned in our family with great love even today. Sadly dad died early 90s but always said it was his best car he ever owned. Maybe one day I will have an opportunity to buy and keep one safe and loved again. Thanks for the memories. Just subscribed to your channel.
I went to the breakers yard and chopped out seat belt lugs and installed the seat belts in my consul classic. Sad your dad gave up for that reason, the law was only applied to younger cars - not the Capri. Bless.
If ever a car could be described as 'pretty' - it's this! As a child my Mum was friends with a lovely couple who worked for Ford and had numerous models.....so I was lucky enough to travel in their Consul Capri.
We have had ours over 35 years. I bought it when we first met, and it was our wedding car in 1993. It has only ever had a light restoration, with no welding underneath required. It's a 1962 model, the same year as my wife was born. They are both growing old gracefully!
Fantastic car…I remember them well but this is the best example i have ever seen and, what a lovely lady. Get as much money as you can from someone who is going to love it as much as you do…and let you come and visit…! 😉
Stunning. Then watching it drive along I wondered if anyone has ever put in a small block V8, imagine the burble would sound great with that. Loved the white jacket too. My father had the Consul 375 and I always hoped he would get the Classic Capri..Cheers
As a child I got a ride to school one day in a friends dads Consul Classic which was new at the time.I always liked these cars especially the Capri.I think they were ahead of their time.
Found this by accident. We got these in NZ along with the 315 Four door. A mate of mine had one years ago, a 315 four door. Was a relatively expensive car and flashy compared to some of the staid English stuff at the time, 1340cc engine. It had the "duck back" window like the Anglia 105E. Interestingly Dagenham pinched this rear window idea of Ford USA's Lincoln / Mercury "Breezeway" models. Now subscribed.
I was 10 when this and the Classic came out and I really loved it. I know that it was only going to live for a short time as the Corina was on the way. Supercar with Mike Mercury was one of my favourite programs and this to me was Supercar.
My mum was a GP in Birmingham. She had a red and white one new in about 1962 or so. She taught me the elements of clutch control in it when I was about 15. It got swapped for a Rover 2000 after a few years. She used to do a fair bit of mileage in those days.
When I was 4 my dad had a ford classic, and yes I felt we must have SuperCar. One day my uncle turned up in his car, a Consul Capri. My uncle took me out for a spin. It was amazing. When we got back, all my school mates wanted a ride and see these two, now iconic, vehicles nose to tail. My dad would not tell me where the petrol cap was for ages, probably sensible!
🤗. Oh goodness my dream car from when I was 16 - and I'd still love to own one!! Have adored the elegant design ever since! And yay, a lass after my own heart, because I too love the big American classics and see this as a baby version, plus, I'm Rockabilly too, so, it's a great nod to the fun times and designs pre computers - awesome video!
This vehichle pushed me into the motor trade in the 70's as an apprientice paint sprayer , my neighbour had one and i thought it looked amazing compaired to the other cars on our estate.
Circa 1981 at the staff car park of Johnsons Wax, Frimley Surrey. A staff member took pride over his Consul Classic which he had owned for years. One icey winters morning another staff member driving his MK11 Cortina in the carpark couldn't stop and slid / ploughed into the Classic. It was in a sorry state to say the least. Bob the owner was absolutely gutted. I never knew the outcome if the car was written off or not.
Yes I had a consul classic 4 door 1500 cc engine . Great car I have photos somewhere if I could find them but yes mine was grey. We toured Scotland with a caravan in it.
This is one of very few Fords I ever liked as I'm not a Ford man, but I just don't think I could ever drive a car without seat belts anymore! I love Bobby too!
I was a Ford apprentice in the mid seventies, the odd Classic or Capri came into the workshop. Sadly lots of rough cars were cannibalized for their 1500cc engines and disc front brakes to build hot Anglia's. I did see a Capri fitted with a Lotus Twin cam engine, the owner claimed it was a Boreham built car, for Essex police.
In 1970 when in the Army i bought a 1964 Hooper Capri. Unfortunately i don't have any photos but i absolutely loved this car. I took it to Belgium for 2 years but when i left the Army i had to have an estate car for my job so it had to go. My biggest regret to date was selling my Capri.
Thanks, it was Rolls Royce Regal Red with white roof. Inside the seats were red leather with white piping. The door cards were white leather with electric windows. Well ahead of its time for a working man's car.
When I was 18 back in 1983 an old school mate had a consul capri, it was a dog when he bought it but he spent a fortune on having it totally restored and it was stunning, red with a white roof, red interior and red leather seats (no seat belts) I also remember that it was "A reg" because his dad bought a new 1983 A reg 2.0L capri!
My very first car was a blue Consul Classic saloon, 926 EOK, cost me £89, as soon as i saw the front of this Capri my memory stepped one step back, traded it in for a white Ford Corsair, after some clown drove into the back of it.
Hello Wolvoman thank you for sharing your memories of this car don’t forget to subscribe to the channel and hopefully we can show you more vehicles that will take you back 😊
What a lovely video the Consul Capri was mf favourite as a child when it was new. Bobby has great memories on KB Radio 2 sadly I have re-joined KB on his new prog but still like Bobby and wish the best in her travels.
My father had a red Capri when I was a teenager and we fell in love with the shape. So when a Daytona Yellow model came up when I was at university we had to have it! As you said the boot is enormous and we used to carry two trunks to and from home at each holiday. One time I carried a friends Cortina engine in the boot back from being reconditioned. It is/was greatly underpowered for a car of this size, I swapped the 1340 and it’s steering column shift for a Cortina 1500 and a floor shift, this was a big improvement. My sister had it after I had it but sadly it proved too troublesome to keep on the road 😢
Oh my God! I renovated/customised GT in the late 70s!! Special black paint, wide alloy wheels, 3 unit HiFi and fancy speakers!! Warm Fuzzy feeling. Loved the pillar less. 🌞
Hello Bobbie Pryor, nice to put a face to a name, your part of my drive home from work with the traffic news, I went to work in a lotus cortina mark 2 never been in or seen a lotus capri but it looks great, many thanks for sharing your voice and video, 👍👍.
Don't sell it Bobby, you'll regret it as soon as you do. Took me 15 years to get another one after I let the last one go. Which by the way has never been seen since so if CVW318B is still alive in the Nottingham area please comment and let me know
@@Classiccarstories. Bless the whole lot of you for keeping the memories alive…. And yes. Don’t even think about selling that car, it’s going to become an icon of the 1960s
what a beautiful car. the design is simplistic yet retains style. I want to see this in production again. same body and same features but in hybrid or something
Had a ' 64 red GT back in the early ' 70 s loved that car one bad point was the twin headlights kept falling out due to a rusty back plate wish I still had it.
Wow! Stumbled upon this amazing video, I love it! My dad had a 63 Consul Capri 333EYL red with white roof, silver/grey internals. So many memories. I have a photo of me and him stood next to it. The weird this when I was about 5 I left my teeth marks in the dash, I tried to bite a chunk out of it!! I jab no idea where it is now but at the time we lived in West Hertfordshire. ❤
I had a 1962 (I think) consul 315 classic 4 door, in the mid 1970's Goodwood green, bought from a breakers yard sans engine etc. From a contact I bought a totaled Mk 2 Cortina GT - the later one with the stronger bottom end - My kids swing became a gantry and with a lot of trial and error I got it all in - a big problem was getting the gear bag supported as the crossmember and mount was different. So anyway, it ended up with the 1500 GT engine and box (later changed for a closer Lotus Elan box - swap the selectors and tail) 3.9 diff in the complete MK 2 axle (about an inch wider) The menace welded the brackets on. Had her 5 years! Fave with the fuzz! You were doing a hundred, now you're doing thirty - why is that? 'cos you couldn't keep up! Bless!
Over the years I’ve owned so many cars, practically all of which would be classed as classics, including a very rare Aston Martin short chassis volante abd a coachbuilt Bentley, but the one car I regret selling the most is my Consol Classic Capri GT in Goodwood green. Stupidly part exchanged it for a clapped out Lotus Elan. Big mistake !
There was also an official factory Hooper model Capri which was fitted out and trimmed for Ford by the Hooper coach building firm, with a special luxurious interior, including folding white leather front seats. Only a small number were made and they are now very rare.
@@Classiccarstories Sadly not, but I remember seeing a picture of one. The door was open and the back of the reclining front seat was folded forward for rear access. The upholstery was very deep, like that of a Rolls-Royce!
Beautiful car, I'm just finishing restoring my 1963 Capri which has been family owned since new. It's been painted original colour ,Lime Green with white roof and like Bobby's car has red interior. I learnt to drive in my Capri in 1976 but then fell into disrepair and stored until about 10 years ago when I started to plan its restoration.Capri will be finished this summer and I look forward to driving it soon.
Back in the 1970's, there was a guy who lived in Kingsbury ( NW London ) who built one of these with a 3 litre V6 Capri engine in it.... he also did the same to a Mk1 Cortina.
It was a deep red candy mirror flake with a 'button upholstered' roof in a red metalic matereal..... featured in all the custom car mags at the time, I believe the Cortina was brown and called 'The Wanderer' or something like that ....
My dads Classic had a big long gearstick that was bent backwards it looked great but the stick sheared off from the selector at the base. It was bergundy white a white roof, the seats were great and burgundy and the horn was a chrome rim that ran around the inside of the steering wheel.
Ford have produced some iconic cars. This was the first ford that I thought wow, when I saw it. I was only about 9 or 10 and there were still a few of them about then. I also love the Corsair, 1050s Consuls, early 60s Zephyrs and Zodiacs, the Anglia, 1969 Zodiac, the iconic Mk1 Granada Coupe, the (other) Capri and Mk1,2 and 3 Cortinas! I am a solid Alfa Romeo fan. My son has a Fiesta ST, and I am slowly getting an itch to buy another Ford. Not a new one. Where can I get one of these beautiful Classic Capris?
Bobbie seems like a wonderful Capri owner and should keep it. I'd love it but have my own which is a stuggle to finish. In Canada these things are pretty scarce, I think every owner could ride around in one car. Reproduction and original parts are very scarce, even the simple stuff like weatherstripping and taillamp lenses.
I'm in America and saw a picture of the Capri in a book and imediately thought it was patterned after the 1961 Ford Galaxie. Either way, it is a cute little bugger! I'd buy one...if I could find one!
It was originally to be called the Sunbird, as it took influences from a 1960 Ford Sunliner (rear) and a 1960 Ford Thunderbird (front), but for some reason it was called the Consul Capri.
Great video and the first time as a Raadio 2 listener ( not so much lately now Ken Vruce has gone) that I've actually seen Bobbi. My Dad had a black Consul Classic when I was a judge, I loved it but he didn't keep it long, preferred Zephyrs and Consuls.
I once owned a beautiful one of these. It had been fitted with a 1600cc cross flow engine, Not the standard engine, but faster …. My one was ermine white , lovely memories eh … It was way ahead of its time. And guess what. I owned Two Chevy Impala’s too, both We’re stunning examples of American Motorcar history. They don’t make em like that anymore nor will they ever again …. I’m sure my capri number plate ended … 121. I bought it from a garage just outside Brentwood Essex for £250 … crazy eh. But that was a lot of money back then
My father used to own the Consul Classic, and to a little kid that was an enormous car! I'd love to own a Classic or Capri now, there was nothing on British roads at the time that beat them on looks. PS Subscribed.
Beautiful Car, I have one that I,m just finishing restoring and has been a family owned car from new in 1963. It's been repainted in original Lime green with white roof also, like Bobby's car has red interior . I learnt to drive in my capri in 1976 until it fell into disrepair and stored until 10 years ago when I started to plan the restoration. I now look forward to once again driving and enjoying it this coming summer.
I remember hearing Bobbie say on the radio, that she was excited to be going to pickup her latest acquisition. I guess this was the car she was talking about.
Mum had one when i was a kid. I wish i still had it !!😢 Red, white roof, a white pinstripe? White wall tyres with chrome hubcaps. Very smart. Got us to the coasts for family holidays. If dropped off at school kids would say "its the Grease car!" 😂 It got nicked twice by respectful thieves (those were the days) found a mile up the road, locked with £5 petrol money and a thank you note!! Mum got a crook lock and would come indoors with the distributor/coil? lump of wire? Mum needed different car for cash and carry & greyhound as well as Nan !! It was sold to a rock a billy young man. Ive just got a vanguard model replica to mither over!! 😢 DONT SELL IT !! You will regret it !!
As someone with family well entrenched in the 1960s/70s UK Ford Motor Company - manufacturing and design - the Classic and thus Capri were too expensive in manufacture. The Mark 1 Cortina was cheaper to produce - hence the Classic/Capri production was halted. Just compare the quality of the body panels, interior etc al.
I bought a beautiful RED GT in 1970/71 but it only had a 4-pot 1600 so I installed a 4.2 litre from a wrecked "E" Type and upgraded suspension brakes wheels tyres etc which made it go like a RED car should go Zooooommmmmmmm
A very pretty car, love the pillarless look I always wanted one of these but they were usually rusty and they weren't very quick. Maybe look at a Volvo C70 Mk2 for similar concept
My dad had one of these before I was born, and sadly for him when I arrived in 1973, he replaced it with a mk2 Escort. He always speaks fondly of his Capri, I must ask him for the registration to see if it still out there somewhere. His ended up with a brand new bigger engine from his local Ford dealer, Fry’s of Lewisham after he blew up the original. I’m currently on the hunt for a Morris Minor Traveller, but I’ve always had a soft spot for these too and with my dad currently in hospital maybe, just maybe….
Lovely looking restoration mine 1500 5 bearing same mk 1 cortina gt ? Ride like a camel thickest doors ever had, thirsty and a rust bucket ,typical Ford for starting but weirdly i still have fond memories of having it.
A lovely car and so blessed with the fifties diner style. In North America where I live Ford would not have dared, copying so closely, a GM look. Interesting that they would copy a GM look for the British market. Just a thought to consider. GM, Ford, and Chrysler built cars in North America. The Canada US auto pact insured North American production which included large factories in Ontario and Quebec Canada. It is important to keep in mind that so called American cars were North American with huge quantities of parts and whole vehicles moving across the Ambassador Bridge between Windsor Ontario and Detroit Michigan. The auto trade was massive and fueled trade as the world had never seen before. True mass production on a grand scale between countries. I'm sure most British people don't know this.
I agree with Peter, don't sell it, you should let it be adopted under what is from this point forward known as 'Bobby's Classic Car Law!! The CONSUL CAPRI and the Classic , ARE ICONS TO THIS DAY .👍👍
Hi Allsearpw thanks for commenting

Did you ever get to own one ?
No I didn't get to own one. By the time I got to age 17 I got the motorbike bug that lasted 30 years. I always remembered how beautiful that car was though.

Glad you enjoyed it! Please share
is absolutely stunning car I hammered talking to one for years but never got until a visit to a chip shshop got a
These always fascinated me, a total misfit car from the era, without a real market sector, but they made them and they were super-cool !
MrAvant , yes agree seems so misplaced doesn’t it
I had a 1962 (I think) consul 315 classic 4 door, in the mid 1970's Goodwood green, bought from a breakers yard sans engine etc. Bless!
Thank you for sharing Denis interesting stuff !
Interesting story Colin thanks for sharing please subscribe
I love that car. My dream has always been a Chevy Impala.
Yes lovely looking car
There was also an official factory Hooper model Capri which was fitted out and trimmed for Ford by the Hooper coach building firm, with a special luxurious interior, including folding white leather front seats. Only a small number were made and they are now very rare.
Interesting Mike , thank you for sharing that info , have you seen one ?
Thank you for the info I would love to see a picture of it that we could share on our community board
My sweety had a mk 1 capri 1962.... reg was 868 pny sadly had to sell it due to a bad resto garage runied it .... Beautiful cars the ford capri
What a shame it had to go thanks for sharing
Yes I did it was a Capri 1.6 GT. it was a two tone blue , very light on the top and dark blue on the bottom. Unfortunately I don’t have any photos.
Back in the 1970's, there was a guy who lived in Kingsbury ( NW London ) who built one of these with a 3 litre V6 Capri engine in it.... he also did the same to a Mk1 Cortina.
Interesting thank you for sharing 😊
It was a deep red candy mirror flake with a 'button upholstered' roof in a red metalic matereal..... featured in all the custom car mags at the time, I believe the Cortina was brown and called 'The Wanderer' or something like that ....
My dads Classic had a big long gearstick that was bent backwards it looked great but the stick sheared off from the selector at the base. It was bergundy white a white roof, the seats were great and burgundy and the horn was a chrome rim that ran around the inside of the steering wheel.
Nice memories Buffplums
Thanks for sharing , they do come up occasionally on eBay, check out the Consul Capri Facebook page for info 😊
Thank you for sharing your thoughts Tomp
I'm in America and saw a picture of the Capri in a book and imediately thought it was patterned after the 1961 Ford Galaxie. Either way, it is a cute little bugger! I'd buy one...if I could find one!
Thank you for your comments
It was originally to be called the Sunbird, as it took influences from a 1960 Ford Sunliner (rear) and a 1960 Ford Thunderbird (front), but for some reason it was called the Consul Capri.
Great video and the first time as a Raadio 2 listener ( not so much lately now Ken Vruce has gone) that I've actually seen Bobbi. My Dad had a black Consul Classic when I was a judge, I loved it but he didn't keep it long, preferred Zephyrs and Consuls.
Glad you enjoyed the video Steve
I had a 1500 Classic around 1975. The 1500 had 4 main bearings, the 1340 had only 3 main bearings. Of course, i really wanted a Capri GT.
Yes the GT version is rather special , please subscribe to the channel Karpkatcher
The 1500 had a 5-bearing crank, not 4-bearings.
Beautiful cars shame they suffered badly with the dreaded tin worm. So elegant and definitely had a mini Americana style.
Yes like a lot of Fords from that period, thank you for commenting please make sure you subscribe
A lovely style
Very unique
I once owned a beautiful one of these. It had been fitted with a 1600cc cross flow engine,
Not the standard engine, but faster …. My one was ermine white , lovely memories eh …
It was way ahead of its time. And guess what. I owned Two Chevy Impala’s too, both
We’re stunning examples of American Motorcar history. They don’t make em like that anymore nor will they ever again …. I’m sure my capri number plate ended … 121.
I bought it from a garage just outside Brentwood Essex for £250 … crazy eh. But that was a lot of money back then
Thanks for sharing that story Barry, if only you had the two Impala's now! don't forget to subscribe !
My father used to own the Consul Classic, and to a little kid that was an enormous car! I'd love to own a Classic or Capri now, there was nothing on British roads at the time that beat them on looks.
PS Subscribed.
We agree John very unique car please make sure you subscribe and we hope to bring you some more British Classics 😊
Let us know when you finish it we’d like to see the pictures
I remember hearing Bobbie say on the radio, that she was excited to be going to pickup her latest acquisition. I guess this was the car she was talking about.
It was indeed
sweet!
Mum had one when i was a kid. I wish i still had it !!😢 Red, white roof, a white pinstripe? White wall tyres with chrome hubcaps. Very smart.
Got us to the coasts for family holidays. If dropped off at school kids would say "its the Grease car!" 😂
It got nicked twice by respectful thieves (those were the days) found a mile up the road, locked with £5 petrol money and a thank you note!! Mum got a crook lock and would come indoors with the distributor/coil? lump of wire?
Mum needed different car for cash and carry & greyhound as well as Nan !! It was sold to a rock a billy young man.
Ive just got a vanguard model replica to mither over!! 😢
DONT SELL IT !! You will regret it !!
Thank you for your great story Claire please be sure to subscribe to the channel
I remember when they put one into Rackhams department store in Birmingham a red one..in the early sixties, probably 1961..
Interesting please subscribe 😊
As someone with family well entrenched in the 1960s/70s UK Ford Motor Company - manufacturing and design - the Classic and thus Capri were too expensive in manufacture. The Mark 1 Cortina was cheaper to produce - hence the Classic/Capri production was halted. Just compare the quality of the body panels, interior etc al.
Thank you for sharing
The Thunderbird was the influence - it’s just that our man at the barn was looking at the wrong model!
White with a red interior, just like my grandmother's Capri!
Great memories?
I bought a beautiful RED GT in 1970/71 but it only had a 4-pot 1600 so I installed a 4.2 litre from a wrecked "E" Type and upgraded suspension brakes wheels tyres etc which made it go like a RED car should go Zooooommmmmmmm
Interesting thank you for sharing please subscribe 😊
Drive it, enjoy it.
Very nice.
Glad you like it Peter thanks for taking the time to comment please subscribe 😊
@@Classiccarstories my pleasure. 👍
I must have had at least 10 of them good sellers so was the 4-door Ford Classic.
10? you really are a fan! thanks for commenting please subscribe
done a 3500 rover V8 that went in one of those, looked and sounded real good with a RV8 in it
Thanks for sharing
A very pretty car, love the pillarless look I always wanted one of these but they were usually rusty and they weren't very quick. Maybe look at a Volvo C70 Mk2 for similar concept
my first car at a tender age of 17 comsul classic 315 my father bought new in1963 reg pzd 315 inireland.
The classic had the same fins at the back only difference was the slanting window
I had one, a 62 four door with the 1340 engine. Bought it for $75 quid in 1972.
Hope you get the car you want , thanks for watching!
I think this is one of my favourite cars of all time, a shame the styling was a bit too radical for 1962!
Yes ahead of it’s time definitely please make sure you subscribe
Lovely looking restoration mine 1500 5 bearing same mk 1 cortina gt ? Ride like a camel thickest doors ever had, thirsty and a rust bucket ,typical Ford for starting but weirdly i still have fond memories of having it.
Thank you Wayne for sharing your comments please subscribe and we can bring you some more interesting content
Thank you for sharing this interesting information Mary 👍
excellent
Glad you enjoyed it Slick
@@Classiccarstories maybe sell it & get a 60 chev ?as i to have always thought they looked like them ,but now do see the starliner
