  • Today, I’m thrilled to welcome back Dr. Emma for another deep dive into one of our favorite subjects-Katherine of Aragon! As always, our conversation branches into so many fascinating Tudor topics that it’s hard to list them all. But this episode is fittingly titled Katherine of Aragon: The Queen of Queens, because the more we discuss her, the more I’m struck by her immense contributions to Tudor history. It’s also a reminder of just how strategic Henry VII was in securing that powerful marriage alliance with Spain.

Ya.............Francis looks like a slimy player in that painting. Interesting symbolism with the caduceus; not sure the meaning in that context. Some fine mockery though.

Thank you ladies for another fantastic look into the world of the Tudors. When I was at Westminster I felt the same at Lady Chapel, and when in front of Edward VI's tomb, I almost felt as if the young king was standing next to me.

Completely true about ranking the queens of Henry. I'm even to the point that I consider Catharina his only genuine queen, excuse me, QUEEN. I wonder, of all the European queens of the late medieval period, who was more accomplished/impressive than C of A?

Great topic! I can identify with you ladies describing your reaction to great art. It's a visceral reaction for me that often takes my breath or brings me to tears. ❤

I have always had the utmost appreciation of Catherine of Arragon as the people respected and loved her deeply for her undisputed queen lyrics strength and her consistent assistance to the poor. A REAL Princess, a REAL Queen.

Interesting discussion, packed full of information - as always! Thank you for providing the link to view the portrait. That expression on Francis l's face made me shudder! He looks smarmy and repulsive, leering out at the viewer...It's not hard to imagine what his thoughts are! Thank you both!

I love when we get both of you women. I love Tudor history. I even helped my best friend win a trivia on a cruise a few years ago. Because I knew what lady Jane Grey was known for. We won a plastic ship trophy. She let me keep it because had I not told her that. She wouldn’t have had perfect score.
