- The Bollywood's legent Dilip Kumar Saab is no more. My heartiest condolences to departed soul.
I feel lucky that I am the only journalist of Jodhpur who took the interview for DOORDARSHAN when Dilip Saab visited Jodhpur 23 years back for a program of Film society of Jodhpur.
Secretary Mohan Swaroop ji Maheshwari arranged an interview time and the crew was ready to move but no person in the team of jaltedeep Manak aur Manak TV (Stringer for Doordarshan) were ready to face him as in previous visit to Jodhpur Dilip Saab refuse to give interview to a senior journalist of Jodhpur.
Editor-in-chief Padamsa Mehta then asked me to do so and I willingly got ready to take interview. Crew was already to move in a car. we proceeded for BSF Guest House where the same was arranged.
When Dilip Saab came, first he asked 'Interview Kaun lega' (Who would take interview?) I introduced myself and said that I am the Jodhpur correspondant of Trade Guide, Mumbai also. 'OK kiske liye le rahe ho' (For which channel the interview is being taken) I said for Doordarshan and then we sat for the interview.
But real twist in this story is that Shyam Singh Deora who was handling the video camera, told me in my ear that the battery of the video camera is not working and Dilip saab told me that the interview time would be over as soon as the coffee and biscuit in his hand finished!
We decided to write down the questions and answers as there were no alternatives even no mobile phones that time to make a video.
His coffee about to finished and camera person Deoraji again told me in my ear that now he has arranged the battery and now camera is on.
But what to do now! Time was about to over but I gathered my courage and requested Dilip Saab - Sir it was a rehearsal and as the camera is on now we have to repeat the questions and answers. I swear no new questions.
Dilip Saab said OK and result was on Doordarshan that evening.
As my tribute to this legendary artiste of Bollywood Dilip Saab, posting that video of the interview on my You Tube Channel. Just enjoy his style of saying the things.

Undoubtedly. He is the real shehanshah of acting. He can talk on any subject , his command on urdu, English is simply adorable. All actors are inspired by Dilip saheb. He is the only Method actor in this world.

Bhai sahab absolutely right. But I take the liberty to make a small correction in your statement. Dilip Kumar sahab was not the only method actor but he was the first actor to introduce method acting in the big screen in the world in 1944-45. Merlin Brando followed suit in 1949 and many great Indian actors were inspired by Yusuf Khan sahab's method acting. For example Shivaji Ganeshan ji of South India . Ganeshan ji used to say that Dilip sahab had the extraordinary talent to become the character that he was playing and made it look 100% realistic. Dilip sahab in turn called Shivaji Ganeshan ji, the most powerful actor. Down the line, inspired by Dilip sahab, few other actors took to method acting. Dr.Rajkumar ji ( south) was an outstanding method actor par excellence . Sanjeev Kumar ji, Nasruddeen Sha sahab and Irfaan khan sahab are all known for their excellent method acting. But the truth is , actors actor was Dilip sahab. The world famous genius director Satyajit Roy ji called Dilip sahab, the ultimate method actor in the world.
Many people are not aware that the director of the English film " Lawrence Of Arabia " approached Dilip sahab with an offer to play a key role in the film in 1959-60 . Dilip sahab, however politely declined the offer because he was extremely busy doing films in Bombay and Madras ( Mumbai & Chennai ) . Dilip sahab was an extremely committed and disciplined actor who always cooperated with the producer, co stars and the crew. Dilip sahab produced only one film ...." Ganga Jamna " in the year 1960 . It was a landmark film. He wrote the story himself. Dilip sahab played the role of Ganga an innocent poor villager who becomes a decoit because of the tyranny of a wealthy landlord ( Played remarkably well by Anwar Hussain sahab, brother of Nargis ji) . In the film Jamna is the younger brother of Ganga. Jamna grows up to become an inspector. The role of Jamna was played by the real blood brother of Dilip sahab. The film has a tragic end. Inspector Jamna wants his decoit brother Ganga to surrender but Ganga says no way because he wants to teach the rich, tyrannical zamindaars a lesson. Finally , inspector Jamna shoots his decoit brother Ganga dead.
" Ganga Jamna " was remade in 1974 as " Deewar " Salim sahab & Jawed sahab ( Salim Jawed ) got the story rights from Dilip sahab. Story was slightly modified to go with the changing tastes of the audience. Amitabh ji played the role of the Don and Shashi Kapoor ji played the role of the inspector brother. Like " Ganga Jamna " , " Deewar " also became a superhit film. That's the legacy of the genius Dilip sahab.
Many people are not aware of the difference between a super actor and a super star. A good actor lives the character of the role he is playing. For example, Dilip sahab plays the character of a tangawala. Dilip sahab learnt how to ride a tanga & control the horse ! Similarly when the genius singer Rafi sahab sings " Madhuvan main radhika Nache ray for Dilip sahab, the sitar is really played by Dilip sahab. That's method acting.
A super star on the other hand plays himself in all the films, with his own mannerisms. Dev Anand ji's fans like him for his style. The great character actor Raj Kumar ji is loved for his excellent dialogue delivery. Super star Rajnikant ji is known for his style and action. Can you imagine these super stars doing the role of Devdas or the blind street singer in the film " Deedar " played by Dilip sahab?
That's why the set of fan following for a method actor and that for a super star is entirely different. The fans of a super method actor look for the realistic shades of the character, the actor is playing whereas the fans of a super star look for his mannerisms in film after film.
Yusuf Khan sahab always believed in quality rather than quantity.
@@KPRavi-ps1uu That’s why I said he is the only method actor in this world. Amitabh bachchan always says”Whenever history of cinema will be written it ‘ll be Before Dilip Kumar and after Dilip Kumar”.
Moreover I remember his dedication towards his work when he went to Madras and got full training in playing that instrument which he plays in “Gopi” for the song “Sukh ke Sab saathi”.

Another scene of “Dil diya Dard liya” where he runs and meet Pran . In that scene he first actually had run in the building from ground floor to first floor through a stair and when he felt his breath has become fast he did it instantly as Director had kept his camera ready .
Amitabh bachchan always gets surprised how he fluently spoke Awadhi in Ganga Jamuna. This is because he lived that character and learnt the language while living in that village for 15 days.
This is the dedication which every actor should learn from this Great actor. 👍

Dilip Kumar sahab was an intellectual, an actor par excellence , a kind hearted philanthropist and a great crusader for communal harmony. Over all an outstanding human being. Dilip Kumar sahab alias Yusuf Khan sahab R. I. P.
His dutiful wife Saira banu ji is a great human being beyond compare, who took care of him 24×7 like a caring mother. May Allah bless her with a long, healthy life.

One thing about dilip kumar in the 90s when his nephew ayub Khan made his debut he showed a lot of potential I feel dilip kumar should have done more for him.

Qila hit the stands in the year 1998. During the course of this interview, Yusuf saab is asked about his upcoming film Qila and the maestro said that it would be shot in Jaipur. From this it can be conveniently inferred that this interview was taken sometime in the year 1998.
