While testing for quality is the most important thing, I am also making another tutorial that goes over all the different features of all the different types of guitars. Look forward to it in January!

Thanks for this video, James. An additional way I've been advised to judge the quality of one acoustic guitar against another is to pluck a string and then time the length of the sustain. The longer the sustain lasts, the better quality the guitar.

Helpful video. As an absolute beginner, I would not have known to check for these things. And now I know how to form my first chord, too!
    Thank you!

Thank you I learn from you tonight so much from strumming, practicing chord changes. From changing a song to another key YOU ARE AMAZING very talented in how to teach and get a clear point across to beginners . Yesterday i was so happy to be able to really capture so much from your lessons. Thank you God Bless you for taking your time to give to others your knowledge of guitar.
I started to teach myself keyboard with utube. It also has helped me understand guitar more. I so enjoy it and now I am so into the acoustic guitar. I went to a music store someone had brought there guitar in to sale by owner that has a pickup and the color is black for $50.00. I fell love with it and what a sound it has. So very happy with my cheap guitar but to me it's worth thousands. Hopeful to one day play a song or just play along with another guitarist.

Thanks Mate. You really take the time to slowly show us beginners the how to basics and not to scare us off by pulling all this fast impossible tricks. Thank you so much. Hope to see more of your video tutorials on RUclips. Thanks. Tom - Australia 🇦🇺

something to consider ... for some people their dominant hand is the one with the most dexterity and therefore would be the one to form chords with .. as a lefty i could not imagine trying to use my right hand for doing chords and have been playing 'right-handed' for 40 years .. in fact there are many lefties who play that way as well .. bob dylan for one !! ..

Great advice. Particularly check out expensive and try to find the one nearest it hat fits your budget. Perhaps you could add what the action should be like at higher frets.
I've just bought an acoustic guitar which has great low action at low frets but quite high action at higher frets.

Hi James! I love watching your videos, I'm 57 and just started learning aprox 3 years ago. I love playing guitar, I find it very difficult to get the strumming when listening to a song. Would you be able to make a video explaining how to learn the strumming pattern of any song. Thanks Wilson.

In every video I watched they said to find what sounds good and this is the only one that taught me a chord so I don’t look like a total noob

This is a great video and extremely helpful. I'm ready to move up from my old "student" classical guitar and the price of good guitars and making the wrong purchase is holding me back. I've been going through your free e-books and haven't found the worksheet related to buying a guitar. The link is a download for your strumming and rhythm e-book. Am I looking in the wrong place?

I have been playing for about a year and a couple months ago I decided to upgrade from a $179 Fender starter package guitar I bought at Costco. I purchased a $650 Breedlove guitar from my local guitar shop. I really like the guitar and immediately noticed an improvement in my playing, especially in my chord clarity. It's a lot easier to play and I have been playing and enjoying guitar more.
If you can afford to spend more than $200 on a guitar it will be worth it. You can definitely learn to play on a cheap guitar, but when I was trying different guitars, I clearly noticed a difference between a $200 guitar and a $300-$400 guitar and even more of a difference in a $500-$600 guitar. I tried a couple of really expensive($4-$6k) Taylors and Martins and didn't really notice a difference from the guitar I purchased. Although, I'm sure a better and more experienced player would be able to tell the difference.
Finally, check out your local guitar shop if you have one. I received much better customer service by knowledgable people there than the two larger chain guitar/music stores in my area.

Even i hv few years experience in playing guitar... Im still tune my guitar at D, G, C, F, A, D. E tune still too hard for my finger to play. My suggestion to beginners is dt tune at E tune, start at D tune 1st.

Does your guitar tuner have to be on chromatic because I put it on guitar and it doesn't work but I put it on chromatic and it does work
