Everything about this is perfect, voices, instruments, & arrangement. Love when I hear something that I was missing in my life. Many thanks Tom M for this wonderful pick. Great reaction as always, Lee. Blessings all.
Their debut self-titled album Asia that this song is on, is one of my favorites as is their second album Alpha. There is not one song on either album that I do not like and have listened to them more times than I can count. Looking forward to your reaction.
GINO VANELLI - " Appaloosa " and " Brother To Brother " Prog Rock/Yacht Rock/Synth/Jazz/Soul 1970s Hi Tempo Rockin' and Groovin' Classics Drums/Guitar/Bass/Keyboards + Gino Vannelli and the Background Vocalists are Jamming with these 2 AMAZING Songs. Highly recommend both songs 🎶 🎸🎹💯🔥 🎤
I love this song. I was 5 when it came out (with video) and instinctively felt this song’s riff/chorus and laid a musical foundation for me, at age 5. 😊
I still have this vinyl album; bought when it was first released. Other songs on it that I recommend are, "Time Again" and "Sole Survivor". Also, there's another band from this era that I think you would like named "Shooting Star". I recommend their songs, "Last Chance" and "Tonight".
Got tickets to see them a few years ago when they’d reformed the original line up but the gig was cancelled due to Palmer being ill. Saw them the following year with Sam Coulson on guitar and they were amazing. Wetton’s voice was just like the recordings - so natural and ‘Everyman’ as someone else on here commented. Sam Coulson nailed the Howe parts so perfectly. Privileged to have seen them before Wetton passed away.
It's a great song. If there's a flaw, it's the fade-out. I assume they wanted to shorten it to make it radio-friendly, but I'd expect more from a band that had its origins in Yes.
It's funny this is definitely a song I would have requested just to see Lee's reaction because there's a lot of awesome drums and guitar in it so it was a lot of fun to watch even though not my pick because it's something I always was curious to see Lee respond too and it was a great reaction at that as he never disappoints ❤
ASIA - "" Sole Survivor "" Prog Rock Classic from 1982 this song is absolute Mega FIRE!! It's Rockin' from start to finish 🎸🎹💯🔥 Amazing 80s ROCKIN' JAMS Highly recommend it. These guys are on Fire here too.
You might not be able to tell just how talented Carl Palmer is on drums listening to their songs, but listen to a live recording of his drum solo, you'll be amazed! I never knew until I saw them live in Milwaukee back in the 90s and he blew me away! ruclips.net/video/5UMhWD60LGY/видео.htmlsi=LJOICM6XTuGWipJF
From Asia's first album check out Time and Again and Wildest Dreams. As a drummer you will REALLY love the ending of Wildest Dreams. Asia was Pop Prog but those two are more Prog, with Soul Survivor of their first album.
John says in an interview that Greg was fed up with always having to follow Keith’s classical etc genre based work eventually. John was the same with Fripp. Steve and Anderson fell out I think too. They all discovered each other wanted to try their hand at mainstream classic rock using their notoriety. Apparently they wanted to be more relaxed and melodic. Remember they were all middle aged at this point. Someone else points out on here and I agree, they wanted to make more £ .They were all astounded when they discovered they’d timed it right. All us older fans remembered them. The Japanese market adored this stuff as very heart felt, and they ALL GOT TO BE POP STARS! Which I later discovered that’s all Greg ever wanted from his music. Someone said if Greg never met Keith or Fripp, John never met Fripp or Palmer and etc and Steve never met Anderson we could have had totally different music from them. Solo work or different line ups. I didn’t like it much at the time. But if has some saving Grace like John’s lyrics and the talent base to create something popular. John said he got criticism from female fans re Asia lyrics, telling him ‘you always blame the women, it’s always their fault’ which he admits he never noticed! Typical man.
@@L33ReactsThe Footloose soundtrack knocked Michael Jackson's Thriller out of the number one spot on the Billboard album chart on April 21, 1984. The Footloose soundtrack spent 10 weeks at #1
They also wanted to do something different... Like Bill Bruford forming a jazz band, or Steve Howe forming a jazz trio with his son on drums, doing jazz takes of Yes classics.
If you love this kind of progressive pop, then I strongly encourage you to start doing a lot of reactions to 1990s Yes music. No other band created even half the number of progressive pop songs than Yes in the '90s. Half of my top 20 favorite pop songs are from Yes in the 1990s. Yes truly are the kings of pop in that decade, and their album before and after the '90s are my 3rd and 2nd favorite Yes albums because of how Yes progressed into and out of the '90s. But you have to LOVE prog pop like you love that Asia song to dive into Yes progressive pop.
Out of the 6 Yes albums with new songs in the 1990s, they only have 3 epics longer than 15 minutes, and they are all great Yes songs. The rest of those songs are mostly short progressive pop songs or 7 and 8 minute deep cuts, all of which are great Yes songs. The short prog pop songs are under 7 minutes, and most of them are great Yes songs too. Two of those 6 albums are very underrated because the older Yes fans dislike the 2 albums Rabin is on, and Howe is on the other 4. Of those last 4 albums in that decade, The Ladder is the best with at least 4 great prog pop songs that could have been big hits had the record company promoted them with singles. The Ladder is my 4th favorite Yes album. The worst of those 4 albums is Open Your Eyes, which has my 2nd favorite pop song in the '90s by any artist titled Love Shine. The only pop song better than Love Shine is U2s Mysterious Ways. Love Shine would have been a number one if on a single and properly promoted. New State Of Mind also an outstanding prog pop Yes song from that grossly underrated Open Your Eyes, even if that album is the worst Yes album up to that time. Jon, Chris, Steve, and Alan are in top form on the whole album. It's the song writing that suffers, but it's still Yes music, and it's a good album if you don't compare it to other Yes albums. Talk and Union are very underrated too, but some great Yes songs are on both of them. Shock To The System and Without Hope You Cannot Start The Day from Union are great Howe Yes prog pop songs. And from Talk, State Of Play and I Am Waiting are the best of the best Rabin Yes prog pop songs.
@@charleswagner2984 Wow you and I have the same great taste in music! I agree with all this except I can't get into the Open Your Eyes stuff. I guess that weak song writing really affects me a lot. BTW, Yes is my favorite group.
This band drove me crazy. Being an ELP, Yes and Crimson fan, when Asia was about to come out I was so stoked. I figured they were going to seriously jam. Then this came out. Great quality, don’t get me wrong, I was a fan by blood, it was well done prog pop, if thats what you could call it. A few good jam moments, but so disappointing for me. Way to light and poppy. Can’t blame them for wanting to cash in. They paid their dues and deserved it. But man, what they could have done, ugh
Favourite track on this album is Time and Again. Closest they got to a prog song and it is killer
I'm with you Lee. Wetton's voice just speaks to me. He has an "everyman" kind of voice.
For me one of the best debut albums of all time!
Nowadays my two favorite groups are Asia and Boston. And no one shakes me from that. I think it's for a reason.
goosebumps from the first note of the keyboard.
Sole Survivor!

My favorite is Cutting It Fine
Hey Lee, another one to hit from this album is Wildest Dreams!
This whole album is a masterpiece!!
Asia is one of the first mega super groups! Really looking forward to this!🎉❤

Him and Greg Lake had very similar voices. Loved and miss them both.
Absolutely ❤ I have a Greg Lake song request in que with awesome vocals "still you turn me on." One of my faves
Did you see their tour in Hapan with Greg subbing in for Wetton?
Loved this in my youth ❤
Very few Prog bands could resist going mainstream, but if they could have done it like Asia….Aahhhh❤
That's the way I'd do it. You gotta remember your roots and still make it palpable for the normies lol
Just super :) loved this, I forget about Asia, and that’s just wrong. Thanks for the reminder
glad to help! :D
John's voice really shines on 'The smile has left your eyes'
This is my favorite song on the album, L33, but a close second would have to be "Sole Survivor." I think you'll love it too. ❤✌
I love this song. I was 5 when it came out (with video) and instinctively felt this song’s riff/chorus and laid a musical foundation for me, at age 5. 😊
Thanks for this request Tom. Good to hear such a great song again! ☮️❤️🎶
The entire album is just SO good...
A kickbutt song from Asia is wildest dreams , if you want a song that they show off a bit, more rocking and awesome
Thanks for reaction sir! Just a great collection of talent. Agreed on his voice...you feel you can hit every note in the shower. 😅
A great album from a great suer group
Great song ... great group
Wetton.........always great
I saw Asia at one of the 1st shows in the US… they were excellent. I saw ELP, Yes in the 70’s 😊

yeah that fade out got me. i was like what???
@@L33Reactsthat's the full version actually I remember I had 45 as well and they cut it up even more as this is the true version❤
This song and Heat of the moment are the most Poppy songs on the album. Get past these 2 and enjoy the rest of the album it’s incredible.
I saw them at Wembley (London) on this tour. One of the best (and loudest!) gigs I've been to. The other that matched it was Yes at the same venue 😊.
Carl loves. His cow bell……
Sweeping circling higher happiness in their voices

Also how bout a live song from them…. In 1983 they did a concert in Asia called. Asia Live in Asia 💥💥💥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥💥💥💥
JW live with Steve Hackett singing firth of fifth a favourite!
They lost Wetton for a while when they had a huge concert tour in Japan. They pegged Greg Lake to fill in. Perfect voice and bass to fill in.
Greg is such a good vocalist. and bassist! a perfect fit right there.
Wow didn't know that!!
Yeah they’ve even put out a boxed set of Asia in Asia. I got it from my son for Christmas. Fabulous

Geoff Downes, also current Keyboardist and member of YES. I love both bands, especially YES!

Cream, CSN+Y, Blind Faith,
Why did Prog bands go pop. This band is why. They sold millions.
MILLIONS.... i believe it, man. This is the best prog-pop i've heard lol

In those days Asia, high expectations but Imho never really made it as a Prog Supergroup, as an avarage Popband

Sorry, but Carl was in dire need of a click track. He was all over the place on this album, and with ELP.
Given the talent level in this band, the output was pretty disappointing. Formulaic pop.
