Santana was so important in our life. from the late 60's to the 90's, he was in the backdrop of our lives. An icon. So many memoires. God bless you Carlos, et al...

I bought this album the Summer of 70 or 71, I was 14 and on house arrest for the Summer. Listened to this album countless times. Two years later he came to our small college town and played an outdoor concert, ending with this song. Amazing!
Almost 40 years later I attended a Santana concert in Concord where he brought his 90 year old mother on stage and played this song for her. Magical!

This song comes from the great Abraxas album, which was deemed "culturally, historically, or artistically significant" by the Library of Congress and was selected for preservation in their National Recording Registry in 2015.

Greatest slow dance song ever! I just pull my baby close ( I am 70, she is 65) and we just sway to the music.

Has there ever been as beautiful instrumental as this? I think not! How many Mexican wedding receptions has this song been played at? Almost every one I remember attending as a child:) You should just really campout on this album for a while because this one is absolutely iconic. A rock and roll masterpiece! Just start on side one and don't look until it's over. Really it's that good! This would easily make my top ten desert island albums if forced to choose. Hell...probably in my top five!

Oh yes, sweet memories. That was the first song we replayed with our newly formed band in 1973. Of course we couldn't fade out the song, we "made a real ending".

Santana was inspired by afro drumming rhythms back in the 60s and 70s. It really showed in Samba Pa Ti.

From his second album Abraxas 🔥 would be a great album for you to cover. Much of Santana’s music is instrumental and just inspired. Hope You’re Feeling Better next from this album, after what everyone’s been through it seems appropriate

Santana is magical on the guitar. He tone is so sweet. Plus he has a great voice. But the group has done a number of instrumental songs. He is one of the greats to be sure. Keep on going with him. Oya coma va and black magic woman (which was a fleetwood mac song first) are musts. Yea, keep going with him. You won't be disappointed.

"Samba Pa Ti" is an instrumental, as you're aware now, so no lyrics but the lyrical waxing and waning of Carlos Santana's guitar as he weaves his way through chillville with that tone to end all tone. It's more than enough to distract from the album artwork. Heh. I can't help it. Abraxas was one of those "magic albums" back when, record covers warning of myriad secret delights hidden from the kids. But they couldn't hide the music! "Black Magic Woman", "Oye Como Va", "Hope You're Feeling Better", and "Samba Pa Ti" are the singles from that album, which remained popular throughout the seventies and beyond. Those songs often echoed around the local park in the afternoons when I was growing up. I took a trip to Rome, Italy in 1984 when I was a teenager, and I remember hearing "Oye Como Va" on a radio playing in a street market there and thinking it was way cool that the song had traveled that far for that long. Classic.

There is a sung version of this sultry masterpiece. The album of which it is cradled is one for the library. A time will come when the end of one song will trigger a foreknowledge of the next song, on and on. In grade school it was one of my musical Faberge Eggs, and was on heavy repeat.

Thas song is the best solo song of Carlos Santana its an anthem! The angels move the fingers of Carlos on that so spiritual song. And remeber this : his brother ((RIP)) Jorge Santana 1972 with is band MALO, played the Song SUAVECITO, witch is now TODAY the Anthem of the CHICANO community!!! Carlos and jorge two brother that NAILED IT.. THEY ARE and always be LEGENDS 👊

Since you mentioned it... The whole group were tripping on LSD at Woodstock - like a lot of others.
Not condoning drugs, but that was part of the culture back in those days. What a blast - not that I would touch it with a 10' pole now. Still no regrets . There is a famous saying - "If you remember the 60's, you weren't there" 🤪
