Just picked up an E6SS-TC and you're correct, it does feel heavy/substantial but has a huge amount of resonance especially in the midrange and I love the slightly hefty neck.....once you become accustomed to it, great demo and review fellas.
Two great models to compare! I have a J-45 standard and an E1SS. The Gibson had that classic warm thuddy tone. The Eastman is a bit brighter and more present. Both are great and sound good.
Both Eastman and Gibson are very nice, clearly a renaissance of guitar building going on...
The E6 sounds great, but I was sold on the Eastman E20SS-V-sb with the vintage varnish and torrified red spruce top. I hear the Eastman D MR TC is coming.

Seems the thermal top added warmth to the Eastman. I believe Eastman is in partnership with Bourgeois guitars made in Maine?
True. Bourgeois will still be making pricey acoustics in ME, but will partner on Eastman manufactured more affordable acoustics that acknowledge both companies.
The ME plant will expand as Eastman will open up foreign markets for US built guitars.
Does your store stock lefties, especially Martin Lefties?
You get a bit more "chime" out the Gibby, but I have to say I'm leaning more toward the Eastman here. I like lesser bright sounding intruements. Maybe that's why?
Can you do the Martin 000-MMV?
Let’s face it these Eastman guitars are as good as if not better and half the price of the branded models.
The Eastman sound warmer....the Gibson sounds a bit thinner and trebled. Two different animals as you said! BTW you guys have the best guitar reviews! Laid back and un-opinionated! 😎
Being a Guild fsn, midrange is very appealling. To my ear the Gibson sounds thinner.
Kind of funny to see the Eastman with the bridge glued on “upside down” ( sorry just my opinion) and the Gibson bridge is “normal.”
If you check out a Gibson J45 the bridge is so called upside down, the Eastman is styled on that, just snapped up an E6SS-TC myself and couldn't be happier, it's beautifully made, sounds and plays great, top value 👌
Quinton, you are looking great and playing better than ever. I am a Martin guy but I preferred the Gibson. This makes me happy that I chose the CEO 7 and not the $2650 Eastman (E20v?). Penny wise and pound foolish.
The Eastman has more of everything full stop. I’ve just bought one. More oomph than the Gibson.
I think the Eastman sounds better than the Gibson -- better, smoother coverage of all the frequencies. By comparison, to me, the Gibson sounds like someone ran the sound through a multi-band equalizer and shifted some of the sliders up and down. The Gibson sounds good, but I think the Eastman sounds more natural. I listened without watching the video, and this helped me focus on the sound without so much brand loyalty affecting my perception.
Think I dig the Eastman. I don’t buy the weight thing meaning it’s better or worse. I’ve got a heavy as hell musicmaster bass from 68 that sounds incredible and some light acoustics that aren’t all that. Big fan of old gibsons and I’ve got an Eastman e20ssv that kinda steam rolls them in a way. Big fan of their stuff! This one is no exception! Also looks way cooler than that Gibson almost looks white
Mossman years ago defused the rumor that heavy guitars were inferior or less resonate and less loud than light acoustic guitars. Actually most of the time when an acoustic is heavier it's due to the thickness of the back and sides, including the back bracing. This in turn this allows the thinner top for project like a speaker due to the back and side reflecting the frequencies as opposed to absorbing them. It also makes for a stronger acoustic. As for the necks Eastman uses genuine mahogany sourced from plantations in Asia, like India, Malaysia, Indonesia, and Thailand, which tends to be heavier than Martins cedar and hardwood necks. Eastman has also started using bolt on necks after purchasing Bourgeois Guitars, which are heavier. BTW the Gibson sounds glassy and brittle with the Eastman has a bit more bass.
Both have a really nice sound. I prefer the Gibson I think. Has more of that big bottom end.
I have the maple version. It is heavy with its solid rock maple neck. I put the new lr baggs hi fidelity pick up in it . I love it
What is the weight on the Eastman? My new J50 is super light 4 lbs .
I like the tone of the J35 more.
😅🎉I A/B'd several of these against a couple of different J-35's and found the Eastman to be superior both in tone and playability. Build quality is right in the there with Gibson. So what if they're made in China under the control of Eastman! We're living in different times now and well designed guitars can be built virtually anywhere. I predict that in another five years, people won't give so much credit to where a given guitar was.buillt or whether the finish is poly or nitro. After all, it's all about sound, isn't it?!
All Eastman guitars has a 1 3/4" nut width (as far as I know).

Tone-wise I prefer the Eastman, not as bright as the Gibby.

Eastman is brighter, more articulate. Gibson is duller sounding.
You guys ( along with other reviewers) are too frightened to come to terms with the elephant in the room. That Eastman hammers the Gibson.

I love Eastman's, but prefer U.S. guitars, unfortunately the American originals are twice as expensive!

I cringe. It is very foolish and unprofessional to lean a guitar against the wall. It is an accident waiting to happen. That's what guitar stands are made for.duh...
