Thank you so much for showing a comparison on the same object. Sometimes it’s hard for me to wrap my head around it without seeing it and that was extremely helpful. Have a great day
I needed this video. I do amigurumi, usually with 4 weight. I want to start making plushies. This helped so much. My local yarn is limited, but I don’t like ordering online and being disappointed. Thank you for a great comparison.
I hear that. That's kind of what happened with the Parfait Chunky. I wasn't super disappointed in that yarn. Like I still loved the colors and the soft texture and loved that it was super easy to work with, especially compared to other chunky yarns. But I was disappointed in the thickness lol. My local yarn is like non existent. The closest place that sells yarn is Walmart which is close to 30 minutes away. And then we have a yarn store that's about 40 minutes away, which is where I get a lot of my 2 and 3 weight yarns. But if I want plush yarns, that's an hour drive to a craft store like Michaels, Joanns or Hobby Lobby lol. So I kind of have to order online lol.
This video answered all my questions & more. 👍🏼 It was exactly what I needed. Bernat has lots of colours but more neutrals. L&T has brighter colours but much less selection. My cousin asked me to make him a fluffy anime plush but I've never made amigurumi with bulky yarn. I never even thought about not being able to see the stitches. What size hook do you use to make the stitches tight enough you won't see the stuffing? Btw, Bernat & LT are available at Michael's & if you can get a 40% off coupon its a good deal.
Congratulations on growing your channel! Thank you for showing the comparison on the yarns with the turtles, it was nice to have a visual guide. I didn’t realize that there were so many color variations of parfait chunky, I think I might have to place an order!
Yeah, the differences in shades are nice. Like Bernat Blanket has a few greens, but only one green is really green and the other greens are like yellow-y or gray-y or blue-y lol. They're not just greens that are still green but different shades of green, you know what I mean? lol.
I think I still like Bernat Blanket the best but I have A LOT of Parfait Chunky in my stash. I need more Sweet Snuggles Lite, but since it's actually the same weight as Bernat, as I run out of Bernat, I'm just going to buy those colors in Sweet Snuggles since I can mix and match them easily in the same pattern. Just to mix things up for a while.
Omg, I'm so happy to hear that! And thank you! It's just an exciting time! And I'm glad we are in the process of building this little community over this thing we all like to do!
Nice comparison! I feel like you hit all the points for amigurumi. I personally prefer the sweet snuggles myself, with the Hobbi baby/ bunny coming in close second. I always stock up on my snuggles when I get that sweet 40% off coupon for Michael's
I actually haven't ever ordered from Hobbi. I've went on the website and put things in my cart a few times (that's how I shop sometimes. Like, I window shop a few times basically to make sure I really want it before buying haha). I do know I want to get more Sweet Snuggles though. But I want to use up some of my other super bulky yarn and bring in sweet snuggles in its place. Not because I like it better, but because I now know it plays well with other *actual* super bulky yarns so I can mix them all together in the same project!
@CottonBabyCrochet (Jacki Chaplain) the Hobbi Baby Snuggle and Honey Bunny feel very similar to the sweet snuggles, but they are just the tiniest bit slimmer. I have mixed them in a pinch, but if you use the same pattern entirely in either one there will be a slight size difference in the final product
Thank you! I'm glad you found the information helpful. We wouldn't need videos like this if the weights of yarn was more consistent across the board haha
Congratulations on 500 subscribers! That’s amazing…someday I’ll get there too. Thanks for the comparisons. It’s so strange how yarn can be so different even though they are classified as the same weight.
Hello! Great video I learned a lot so thanks! I'm a huge fan of Ber nat blanket yarn. I've heard a lot about sweet snuggles light. Never tried it but going after watching your video. Thanks for letting me know about mixing yarns!!! Never knew this before great advice!! Congratulations on hitting 500 subscribers!
Thank you so much! It was an amazing achievement and I could have done it without you!!! I love Bernat blanket so much still. But I'm glad I got to try Sweet Snuggles Lite. I had actually heard some negatives about it... Like that it falls apart (and it didn't for me and I had used it for 3 separate projects so I didn't personally feel like that was worth mentioning in the video because that wasn't a part of my experience or opinion)... and was kind of put off that it was called Sweet Snuggles "Lite" because I had pictured it being as thin as Parfait Chunky so it wasn't worth trying to me. But I really like it. I think as I start to use up some Bernat Blanket, I'm going to see about replacing those colors with Sweet Snuggles Lite and use some of that with Bernat Blanket in projects.
Thank you so much! It's so exciting! And I really loved making the turtles. I made them for a collaboration with Kim from the Regretful Yarn Addict! If you haven't watched her collar video or subscribed to her channel, I hope you consider doing so! She posts about things she's working on like all the time!
Oh my gosh thank you for this especially talking about the stitches being seen, as a beginner I bought other plush yarns that have been recommended on RUclips and I can not see the stitches. I will definitely go try the premier chunky thank you so much
Let me know how it goes. I can only look at things from the eyes of an experienced crocheter, but I do try to think in terms of the newbies that watch my channel too. So to me, it definitely FELT like they were a lot more visible, but I'd love to hear if you felt that way when you try that yarn out.
Hi Jackie! Thank you so much for doing this comparison.I have a couple of different chunky and bulky yarns, but I have not really used them. I have a hard time seeing the stitches. Congratulations on the 500 subscribers! Keep up the good work 👍 I'm sure you will hit your next goal soon. Have a great day!
Thank you so much! I hope you're having a fantastic weekend! I had a hard time seeing my stitches too, so I mostly did it by feel, but with practice, I got better. Though, sometimes with black chunky yarn, I still have a hard time haha. Black yarn is like the bane of my existence. I HAVE to use a neck light or I can't see a thing haha!
This was a wonderful and informative video. I learned so much about the different types of plush yarn that I so love. Thank you again for sharing this. I’ll check out your channel. Lord bless you.❤
Do you know how sweet snuggles yarn washes compared to Bernat blanket? Great comparison too! I prefer a plushy soft yarn, but wasn’t sure how they launder for a baby blanket?
I am where you were at the beginning. Cannot finish a pattern because I get lost in the stitches. 😭. How did you eventually get better at seeing/feeling them?
I wish there was a secret, but it's just kind of practice. The better you get at crocheting, the easier it is to crochet by feel. BUT I will say, I find it easier to see stitches with parfait chunky, specifically. It's got like a denser fuzziness to it, so it doesn't camouflage the stitches AS MUCH. So using that brand more might help you bridge the gap between regular yarn and plush/blanket yarn.
I have tried a few of the bulky yarns but I've only used them a couple of time to make baby blankets. I prefer to use 3 weight but I might give them a try again as it's been a long time since I tried them. (I tried when bulky first came out). Thanks for explaining the differences.
I actually started with 2 weight and 3 weight yarn. That's how I learned. Well, re learned as an adult. Then I bought like every color in weight 4 because weight 4 yarns seem to have the most color options that are widely available... like available in local stores kind of widely available. And then when I started getting into amigurumi, everyone seemed to be using fuzzy yarn, so I got into that lol. But I still like working with weight 4 yarn too, so I do a mix of everything lol. I have a decent amount of weight 2, weight 4, and weight 6 in my current stash.
This was very helpful! I've only ever crocheted four toys and I had such a hard time with Bernat blanket. I thought I could never do really plushy toys (if that makes sense, sorry I'm French😂). I'll definitely try the premier yarn 😊 Congrats on 500 🎉
Your English is great! I totally understood you! Give Premier Parfait Chunky a try with with 4.5 to 5 mm hook and I think you'll be able to see your stitches enough to crochet more toys!
Congratulations! That’s super awesome. I just got premier yarn and so far I like it. I really like the colors available. I started with chenille home by loops and threads. It’s way more thick 😂
I think Chenille Home is what I use for my scrunchies and it's a 7 weight yarn. But I know they have Chenille Home Slim too. I've not tried it but I would venture to guess it's still quite a bit thicker than Parfait Chunky. Parfait Chunky is like a 5 weight, but it's got lots of pretty colors. I just made my sister in law a strawberry cow with Parfait Chunky and I used 4 different colors and it looked great!
Oh wow, I don't think I've ever seen a full afghan with Bernat, but I have seen lots of lap blankets. They seem like they'd be cozy. I've only ever made one baby blanket for my sister with it. It was thick but fluffy lol. I think it would be a good mat to put your baby on rather than used as a blanket, but I wanted to use it for a blanket nonetheless lol.
Im trying to decide between honey bunny, parfait xl, himalayan baby dolphin, and baby snuggles. Id love it if you did a review of them! I loved bernat blanket until i tried their baby version and fell in love, so now i want to make the best adult baby blanket ever
I like Joann's Big Twist Cuddle for substitution for Bernat Blanket, it is so soft and glides along my hook smoothly. I buy it when it's on sale. I have used and like Sweet Snuggle Lite also.
oh yeah, I totally forgot about big twist cuddle yarn. Some of the yarn behind me in this video is actually probably big twist cuddle, because once the label is off, I can't tell the difference lol.
I have so, so much worsted weight yarn that I haven't bought much bulky, Maybe I will pick some up this summer after my big market, when I'm back in the black again.
It would definitely be fun to try! Maybe we could plan some kind of yarn swap! I don't mind worsted weight even though I have a ton and it would be a way for you to get some bulky yarn with minimal financial investment (obviously shipping for the shop would still cost some but not as much as even one skein of bernat lol).
Congrats on 500! I actually prefer worsted weight because I feel like you can do some much more detailed work, HOWEVER.....plush yarn works up easier for market prep and sells easier because they work quick and you can charge less. Currently, I'm working through $500 yarn order of sweet snuggles light and chenille home slim that purchased for spring and summer markets. ( I do at least 2 per month) but I'm missing my worsted weight creating! My yarn choice for market season relies entirely on what is on sale when i need to restock and then I use every single inch! Lol! (The smallest bits become "stripes" "sprinkles" and polka dots!). I'm hoping premier has a big sale in the fall for my fall restock!!!!
Lol good for you! I save my yarn scraps but I haven't used them for anything. I just don't feel that level of motivation. I wish I did... It's wasted yarn otherwise, but I just don't feel the inspiration. I really like worsted weight too. My actually favorite yarn is craftsmart yarn from Michaels but my favorite super bulky yarn is bernat blanket! I use both for market prep. My trick for working with worsted weight yarn for market prep is to hold it double. Bigger end result that way.
Hands down, bernat blanket. I just learned this the hard way as some plushies sustained A LOT of damage at an event recently (they literally fell into the mud... if you watch my most recent video, you'll see the full story). Anywho, I had to wash all of my plushies made with various yarns. Sweet snuggle, parfait chunky, and bernat blanket included. And the only yarn that didn't change textures after being washed was bernat blanket. Plus, the other ones are a little smoother than bernat blanket, so the yarn kind of pulled out in some areas on the plushies made with them. It wasn't terrible but I did have to tuck some yarn back in.
I want to say that Chenille Home... the weight 7 yarn... is what I use for my scrunchies. I like it but I feel like it actually sheds more than Sweet Snuggles Lite and Parfait Chunky.
I love bernat but really loving sweet snuggles I LOVE the jumbo cozy blanket but got tons of bernat on the hobby lobby slashed prices, but I'm a FEEL stitch kinda person 😅
@@WorksofWhimsyCrochetCo bahahah dare I ask if you've used the Michaels Sherpa yarn?! 😅 I grabbed a bunch of discount and now I'm staring at it weeks later like "well....fudge"
I bought parfait and was very disappointed in it. When doing the magic ring, the end of the yarn came off each time I tried to pull on it to close the ring. I had to end up buying Bernat
I don't have that problem when I hold it double, but I do have that kind of issue when I hold it one stranded. I've switched to the chain 2 method vs the magic ring and that helps because you have to pull on it a lot less to close. And you can also stop the shedding by burning the end of the strand just for a second. I like bernat blanket, but it just comes in less color options.
@@WorksofWhimsyCrochetCo I am new to crochet so thank you for the advice. I am in my senior years and decided to challenge myself. Still have to learn granny square🤪
I really like chunky yarn, but I think my favorite favorite yarn is craftsmart yarn. It's a 4 weight yarn. But I do know that my favorite chunky yarn is still bernat, but I want to make some room in my stash for Sweet Snuggles Lite because I really did enjoy using it.
@CottonBabyCrochet ive only used loops and thread and bernat. I think ill venture out, any more yarn comparison vids coming? old soul crochet Darcy deer pattern with a velvet chunky yarn is adorable and so soft compared to the bernat blanket yarn she uses but I did use it for the hooves though. Surprised my coworker (75years young) he tried paying I didn't accept anything for it And he and his wife loves it melts my heart. Definitely recommend that deer pattern. 🦌
That's so awesome! It's solely thanks to you guys. I can't force anyone to subscribe lol. You guys have to want too haha. But it feels good. Weird. But good lol. Like it's kind of hard to wrap my head around the fact that like over 500 people have genuinely liked my videos/me enough to actually subscribe.
@@WorksofWhimsyCrochetCo I actually clicked on your video because I was looking to see a comparison of these two yarns, so one could imagine my disappointment when the title did not accurately represent what was in the video. But I will gladly leave. Hopefully you learn to take constructive criticism one day, I meant no disrespect.
@KaeBae_ I do compare the yarn within this video so I wouldn't call it misleading. That content IS in this video. However, I do have people that watch every single video I post and are interested in the giveaways and the personal updates I give. I'm sorry you didn't love that part but as a content creator, it makes the most sense for me to cater my videos the majority of my audience (which are the people who tune in regularly end appreciate me as a person) and not to the people who stop in for a video or two and never come back. So apologies. But pro tip: bernat blanket tends to be the most popular because it goes on sale a lot but sometimes the colors are limited (there's very limited greens in my opinion). Sweet snuggles light is comparable in weight but it's lacking in availability (online for me like 2/3 of the colors are always out of stock). Parfait chunky is significantly thinner than the other two but it has the best color selection in my opinion. So I get around this thinness by holding it double so I always buy skeins by the 2s. Which then makes it comparable in price to bernat. So the best way to use them all together so you get the best color options is just to hold Parfait chunky double.
Thank you so much for showing a comparison on the same object. Sometimes it’s hard for me to wrap my head around it without seeing it and that was extremely helpful. Have a great day

Do you know how sweet snuggles yarn washes compared to Bernat blanket?
Great comparison too! I prefer a plushy soft yarn, but wasn’t sure how they launder for a baby blanket?
Bernat blanket washes better. I had some worming issues with the sweet snuggles after washing, same with parfait chunky.
I’ve been using parfait chunky exclusively but considered the Sweet Snuggles. You’ve convinced me to try it!
I was pleasantly surprised by it!

My actually favorite yarn is craftsmart yarn from Michaels but my favorite super bulky yarn is bernat blanket! I use both for market prep. My trick for working with worsted weight yarn for market prep is to hold it double. Bigger end result that way.
Thanks for the great yarn 🧶 review
Thank you! I love me some yarn!
Which yarn Launders the best.
I use a lot of bernat blanket and Chenille home slim (very similar to sweet snuggles lite) I haven't tried parfait chunky yet but im dying to!!❤
I want to say that Chenille Home... the weight 7 yarn... is what I use for my scrunchies. I like it but I feel like it actually sheds more than Sweet Snuggles Lite and Parfait Chunky.
@CottonBabyCrochet I also noticed that! Every time I use chenille home I have fluff everywhere 😅🤣
I love bernat but really loving sweet snuggles I LOVE the jumbo cozy blanket but got tons of bernat on the hobby lobby slashed prices, but I'm a FEEL stitch kinda person 😅
Lol if I'm using a dark color, I'm definitely a feel stitch kind of person because I can't see a blessed thing haha.
@@WorksofWhimsyCrochetCo bahahah dare I ask if you've used the Michaels Sherpa yarn?! 😅 I grabbed a bunch of discount and now I'm staring at it weeks later like "well....fudge"
@A. Parlin Project omg no but that literally has to be peak "crocheting by feel" yarn hahaha.
Thank you for this review!
My pleasure! I hope it was helpful.
Congratulations 🎉🍾🎊
Thank you so much!
What time is the giveaway video being posted?
Probably around 4 a.m. EST
@@WorksofWhimsyCrochetCo oooo ok ! I’ve been watching my phone waiting for a notification to see if u posted 😭😊
POV you stalking her page waiting on the giveaway announcement 😂😂❤
The announcement is going up Monday!
@@WorksofWhimsyCrochetCo ok!
Going to comment on everyone one of your videos ! Good luck to everyone with the giveaway !
I was supposed to pick winners yesterday, but I will be today! May the odds be ever in your favor! Announcement video goes up on Monday May 8th!
@@WorksofWhimsyCrochetCo ok !! Ahh hoping I win !!
I love my chunky yarns
Your at 571 now keep it up
That's so awesome!
Ngl. This video is subpar, at best.
That about sums up my whole channel, hun. You can exit through the gift shop on your right :)
