Dig these short vids with loads of value. Everyone develops their own style of brewing and we all have different equipment so these short nice high level videos are great.
Nice timing, I brewed a NEIPA yesterday with Galaxy and Sabro along with some Citra, hot fermenting with Voss. Should be an interesting result, hopefully highly tropical! I'm interested to see how much coconut comes out along with the classic papaya/melon that Galaxy gives. I would have used Azacca instead of Citra but the LHBS was all out. Its tough to find concise breakdowns of different hops on YT so I would love to see this continue. Great work as usual guys!
These video's are awesome, too many diff hops to learn about and try, this is a great way to digest all the info out there. Every video of this series gives me ideas to try, keep it up!
In defence of Galaxy, I still didn't find any other hop that can hold on its properties so well in time. So if you plan to keep your aipas little bit longer than usually, no other hop can beat that. It still hold on aromas slightly changing in time from stone fruit/white fruit ,through grapefruit (mostly), up some sort of strawberries even on the end of shelflife. Closed transfer only helps with that, so I can enjoy it up 6 months.
As an Australian, Galaxy is cheap and easy to find. I can get dried cones or pellets all year round for the same price as any other hop variety, and at harvest time, I can even get wet Galaxy!
Great video as always! You should consider doing a video about the hop oils and compounds I find it very interesting and would love to learn more about them. Keep up the awesome work
Funny, I was looking for Azacca to dry hop a session ale but couldn't find any. Here in Australia Galaxy is cheap and plentiful. Not quite growing on trees, but vines definitely!
Galaxy is by far the best hop I've used yet for aroma and flavour, not too fussed about spending some money on it! I am using Idaho 7 and Sabro at the moment and quite excited to see how it comes out but they cost an absolute bomb in the UK, much more than Galaxy!
I love vids on hops. I found a local brewing group... man these guys are awesome. They understand our water chemistry. I still need to pick up some gypsum... but I have only my second and third all grain in the fermenters... and I adjusted the best I could. My third is just a gallon batch of a party gale because I am cheap... and almost free beer proved to be too much to pass up. :) Something I have struggled with are hops. I look up flavor profiles so I can try and get to certain flavors... I used my amarillo today... I LIKE it a LOT! (Don't tell citra, but I like amarillo more so far!)
Just finished the NEPA I made a month ago. All Sabro. My T buds must be bad, I had no coconut at all, mostly tangerine. Making the same beer with Idaho 7 tomorrow.
Azacca is fantastic, especially for the price. I've started pretty much using it in every IPA I make. Just did an IPA with Azacca, Amarillo (hey look at that, also made the list!), & Mandarina Bavaria with Hornindal Kveik, it tastes excellent!
You can substitute Vic Secret for Galaxy, though its another australian hop and a sister of galaxy so its probably expensive for you guys in the USA. Citra is the most expensive hop here and we can substitute Azzaca for Citra. I wouldnt substitute Amarillo though as its a totally different flavour profile???
I've just got some great hop pellets from my mates shop. Ended up getting some 2019 citra, galena and mosaic for a mix of ales I plan to brew up to winter. I'll have to try one with all three though, anyone tried using nearly one of everything yet? Sounds like a challenge
I don't like the grapefruit flavor in IPA. Is there something that will give a citrus that is not grapefruit? The orange, lemon or lime I would be fine with.
This video gave the Idea to make an IPA that uses Sabbro Hops and Omega Yeast OYL200 Tropical IPA yeast, I will call it Escape IPA. Extra points if you know why that is a clever named. 🍍🥥
I love galaxy, price sucks but cant argue with the results, if used right it's my favorite hop bar none. I've tried all the other hops except cashmere and they are good, but I still think galaxy is the king for a reason, sabro is great too.
We call galaxy and Citra cheater hops because it's hard to make bad beer if you use them :p - but I still like getting people to play around with other things and try to create just as big of flavors (azacca and Idaho 7 have been baller for us)
We meant these more as different hops that can make great beer without spending Galaxy prices (although right after filming it Galaxy prices went down)
Ok, you all need to consider the consistency or lack thereof of these hops. Azacca and Amarillo can both be fantastic, azacca being orangey and Amarillo less so with some apricot notes. But the last couple of years I’ve searched and found rather boring non -description citrus bombs from these in esp. Yakima valley grown. I bought a lb of sabro and did a dry hop test at the end of a keg and this stuff was AWEFUL, FULL of onion and garlic. (See Brewdudes report). Growers tell me it’s about when these hops are picked, nanobrewers tell me those varieties often Suck, so DONT expect as a casual homebrewer to be able to count on making any drop-in replacement for a top notch Galaxy brew, not gonna happen! You all could lose any credibility by telling folks to go use run of the mill inconsistent hop varieties! Honestly!

Idaho 7 was bred by Nate Jackson of Jackson Hop Farms in Wilder, ID. Wonderful hop in my opinion and actually growing it on our farm this year! 😍
I'm a fan of the quick tips. Keep em coming!
I have used Cashmere and Idaho 7 quite a bit and really enjoy them.

Love the "tips" vids
Cheers!
New experimental hop here in Australia called HPA-016. Supposed to be fruitier than Galaxy. Going to use it in a hazyboi really soon!
W00t! Lemme know how it is!
My favourite dry hopp is Hull Mellon. Anyone else?
Ever tried Barbe Rouge and Talus?

Just drank some amazing azacca heavy beers in Boise

Love Azacca and Amarillo, put them with Mosaic and it's just win.
Just did a Sabro and Maris Otter SMASH and WOW! What about some Coconut!! Good call
Does coconut beer?
Citra is very expensive in Australia about $14 for 100g

Mandarina bavaria or lemondrop
Amarillo and centennial
Azzaca, Amarillo, cashmere, Idaho, Sabro

Got an Azacca IPA currently fermenting simply because I found a pound on sale. We shall see.
Awesome 👍
Does anyone else get a green pepper taste from azacca?
I want to comment, but I have put too many homebrews down tonight. Cheers!!!
Hey guys, great video, Enigma is another great sub for Galaxy, try it and let me know what you think?
“We can get them (galaxy hops) cheaper now”... except at my LHBS 😕
Disagree that Azacca is a sub to Galaxy, but its still a delicious hop.
We meant these more as different hops that can make great beer without spending Galaxy prices (although right after filming it Galaxy prices went down)

Quick tips +1
But I just bought a pound...
