From a realistic point of view, I think for daily city traffic jam, just go with the 330i M sport, the initial acceleration is similar to the m340i which is all you need. Handling, interior are all the same, and 330i uses less gas which adds up a lot. The advantage of the M340i is the low depreciation value, prices drop only with higher km so you'll don't really lose value. The B58 is also more reliable and sounds insane even stock. Still, not sure it worth $20k extra + the $2.4k more tax on top
$20K difference is not an accurate statement. Yes, there is still a $14K difference when standard equipped, but the M340i comes very loaded compared to a 330i. By the time you've loaded up a 330i to match an M340i, you're already in M340i territory. In my observations, if similarly loaded, the difference ends up being about $3-5k, which is a fair delta for the 6cyl upgrade.
videofan25 I was thinking the same .I want to get myself M340i but I’m wondering , I can’t go above 110 in Canada . So, I think 330i will be more suitable for me . Also, 330i returns better fuel economy
Got m340 after driving both. I think one HUGE difference people miss is the steering. If you enjoyed e46 handling the m340 steers more like it grips the road.
For "most" people, the 330i is more than enough. It is a quick car that has a very relaxed demeanor. The M340i is for those that just want a bit extra. You get all of the same characteristics of the 330i... until you put your foot into the accelerator. Then, you get a monster of a car. The fact is that the M340i is exactly like the 330i. It just has A LOT more power on tap. If you don't need the extra power, save your money and get the 330i. But, the M340i will put a massive grin on your face.
The M340 definitely comes standard with a more performance goodies than just a bigger engine. You have M sport brakes, a limited slip differential, variable sport steering, and a slew of performance tire/wheel setups. It may share the same chassis, but the m340i is a different beast especially when you start to push these two cars to their limits.
I test drove both, and came to the opposite conclusion; I went with the 330xi. Yes the 340i is a lot faster, but its doesn't really handle much better, I was able to option up the 330xi from what I liked in the 340i, and most importantly here in suburban New Jersey, there are not many places to really use it. Of course, the engine sounds wonderful!
thanks for the video and for everyone that commented saying that the 340 is a different animal. Brain was pushing back the heart, but at the end of the day decided to go for the 340 over the 330. Hopefully can close the deal on the leasing soon!
@@ECPP I was between the C43 AMG and M340i. I test drove both several times. The C43 was more of an 'experience' and the exhaust note put a grin on my face ear to ear...but my wife hated the AMG. The AMG ride was very firm and it was a little less refined. The M340 was super fast and less drama. Very direct steering and still very nice exhaust note, tech, etc. I plan on tracking it occasionally, however it can double as my daily driver too (and I can fit my whole family in for extended trips too). I think it's pretty damn close to an M car for much less $$. It's also a very nice looking car - especially the portimao blue with black 791 rims (in my opinion).
I agree with you on that one! If I'm spending over 50k, I'm getting all I can get!, and the M340i would definitely take car of my driving needs! I'm not a speed demon, but every once an awhile, I like to put my foot in the radiator! The M340i won't disappoint! Only draw back for me is that I'm not a fan of 4doors! (Except for the 640i, 650i, and M6 Grand coupes!). The new styling of the 3 series leave a lot to be desired in my opinion!
Personally just depends on what you want to do with the car , if you want a good Daily commuter I would say the 330i but if want something to build I would say go the 340 way. Plus 20 grand is a big difference in price.
Better question is for today in the used mkt. I'm seeing used 20 and 21 M340s for $55-58k USD and 330i MSports in low to mid 40s so call it $10-15k difference. M340s are holding price better but I dont think its because they are a better vehicle (they are in some aspects), I think its because of BMW artificially propping up prices since most, if not all, of the M340s I see are sold at dealerships. Using a historical depreciation schedule (on avg Yr 1 20% and Yr 2 30%) which I understand doesn't fit in today's world, the M340s should be $50k or less considering they are 1-2 yrs old and had an original MSRP in the $65k area. So if you buy today, you are going to eat that depreciation. And remember, the reason for that steep depreciation is because thats the dealer markup which no one in the secondary market is going to pay. Unless you buy used in 2022. That makes the 330 the better value.
You are totally right and they should be a little lower but there is no doubt right now, dealers are taking consumers to the cleaners like never before. This happens even more in the service side of the dealership.
Good to know! I just could testdrive 330i and was a disappointment. Once I tried to push hard as i used to in my 328f30 simply It didnt have that handling and sportivity. It was like I was driving a family mercedes sedan!!! I will try to drive 340i to check how better it is and take the right decision.
I chose the 330i also. Fact is, my wife uses the car much more than I and she found the 340 a bit too lively. Also, we live in a city so don't have too many opportunities to use its capabilities.
I have a Navardi tuned 330i (320whp/340tq) OTS tune and I am very happy with it's performance. 0-60 ~4.8 seconds. The tune transforms the 330i into power range comparable to the non-M 340i. It's faster than most cars on the road, and feels like factory smoothness. Also the B48-TU engines in these cars are verified up to 450hp, before internal upgrades are required, meaning pushing 320hp/340tq on a proper tune, is not anywhere near the limits (the stock 8hp transmission is also good for 350 lb/ft). I would personally not spend $20k extra for an M340i, but I am not a speed freak. If you are used to very fast cars, than the 330i will not be enough. That being said, I find the stock 330i boring.
Stop the cap a 330i would never be as fast as a 340i or M340i🤣 i had a F30 330i with a tune, cold air intake and downpipe that car is not touching 320whp. Its more like 300 crank hp. Yall come on here and say anything. The 340i will always destroy the 330i because of how good the B58 is. The M340i is literally 400 CRANK hp. Cmon now. Dont listen to this guy. For one the M340i are actually used here in philly for $32k, a used 340i is going for $24k, a used G series 330i is going for $33k. There is absolutely NO REASON to buy the 330i and tune it. If you just want a practical bmw 3 series then yes.
I drove 4 cars, the m235, 330, 330 with m package abs 430,will I liked the 430, I honestly couldn't tell a big difference in pure 0-60 but the handling was the biggest difference between the base 330 and the 430 (maybe because i also own a dodge scatpack with 500hp). With the exact same equipment with the exception of the engine, the 330xi with m sport package and m suspension and brakes, the difference was negligible for only a 1 second difference in 0-60 but 9k difference; so ordered the 330xi m sport, with the M Performance lip spoiler,, carbon fiber rear spoiler and mirror caps, MSRP 56k. Can wait for it to be built. (Also 330 gets better gas mileage)
Just sent my 440i m sport package back and got the new M340i it’s a step above the outgoing cars. Handles better, sounds better, and a lot faster. It might not be an all out M car but trust me it’s not the f30 340i. It’s way more in M territory. Besides, it’s not a fake M. BMW put the M on it so it’s legitimate.
Mark Thank You so for investing sooo much effort in Creating these High Value Videos Although the 330i use to be the Budget M3 in the past ..... which it has since lost & conceded THE Title to THE 340i which I have learned via Your Video's - being THE NEW KING of THE HILL Thanks again
Your reasoning was weak and without substance. If I were to go for a 3 series I would go for 330i. Your video lacked any significant value on why one should pay $20k more for a 340i.
Totally agree with you,330 can't be 20000 slowly and m sport package comes standard with those 155 miles per hour package and it's not much,it's just paying 20k for 1.5seconds which will only be noticeable on track not daily driving, same suspension and everything, normal person can't tell difference maybe journalist and are we all?
I just bought the M340i xdrive. Would have never bought it if not for the engine, so the 330 was off the table. My daughter has the 320, and while that’s a nice ride, the 340 is a different animal.
I have the 328i previous model. I think it has more than enough power for daily driving. The sound isn't that pretty though. The Bluetooth isn't that great as well. Other than that it's a great car
Thanks for watching. Simply put, no, the new f90 m5 has a twin turbo v8 and 600 hp vs the 382 hp I in-line 6 of 3 litres displacement. Either way the new m5 engine has been quite dependable partially because is is shared in many models in different states of tune and has been for awhile and so it has enjoyed some development time.
It depends on how much money you have. I would get the 330i M sport. I drove it and it is a beast in my opinion. Yes, the M340i has faster acceleration and sounds more angry, but then there are other cars with even faster acceleration than that so, I would think about how fast do I really want/need my car to accelerate. I would buy it with winter tires for the 18'' and get another set of 19'' with summer tires. It is still very fast and, if you allow me, slightly 'safer' than the M340i. Plus, I would never take it to the track anyway, it's way too expensive for me to risk it there. I have my mx5 for track days. I would equip it with the M sport differential though. Additionally, the insurance and the tax will be more affordable. I think it is a matter of preference for everyone, also based on financial possibilities, you can't globally say if it's worth it or not. I would personally prefer to have a 330i equipped very nicely i.e. remote access climate control, heads up display, sunroof, adaptive lights, some updated seats etc. rather than a 340i without these options and that would also make me feel a bit uncomfortable about the insurance and the tax. Good luck making the best choice for you, they are great cars! PS I would like to get the M340i grill. Not to deceive anyone, but I just love it, and according to my research it does fit.
Thanks Vlad, for the comment, and yes the car has to fit your personal needs. The 330 is still a fun car with the latest tech and believe me, a beautiful machine. I would expect it to be a bit more economical too which helps and likely slightly lower maintenance costs. The turbo 4 is surprisingly quick and will not disappoint many. Cheers.
@@ECPP My question is rather which one between the 330i and a slightly less equipped 530i face lift that is due to next year. But I think the answer will arise after driving them back to back.
What about a used 340 vs a M340? The only BMWs that hold their value decently are true M cars, so you can get a 16-17 340 for really cheap. Is it worth it to buy one new and spend close to 70k vs 25k for a used 340 when it's just a slight horsepower upgrade?
That is a tough call but I love the fresh interior of the newer car so, to be honest, I would wait for the current car to become 2-3 years old and scoop that one.
Thanks for the nice comparison. Are they selling M340i now? Or do we have to wait until next year? Also, would you be able to do comparisons with E92 M3 and F80 M3?
ECCP, of course the M340i are way to go! I drive my 340i more often than my MB, then now I am prickly anxious trading in for this M340i!! What do you think ECCP??? Should I enjoy my ‘18/340i for a while or trade in for this new one!? 🤔
Rob AMG63 I think anyone who made enough money for the M340i would buy one over the normal 330i. However, if you didn’t make enough money for the M340i, but enough for the normal 330i then you’re still getting your money’s worth. Its’s got good power, and it’s good looking :)
How reliable is the b58 engine? Even the Supra has one. Why would Toyota choose a BMW engine anyway? Is it that good especially when taking reliability into consideration?
footballcoreano at the moment toyota does not produce any inline 6 cylinder engines for any of their car models. the last inline 6 was the 2JZ which they stopped producing around 2004 due to the newer toyota/Lexus models from 2005 swapping to V6 engines. for toyota to go back to the drawing board to only produce an inline 6 engine for just one model i.e the new supra would have shifted the cost of the car to around $100 thousand dollars and toyota knows that would be too much for buyers to stomach a hundred grand for a supra when a buyer can have an Italian exotic car (ferrari, lamborghini)for that money.so they went with a company who would already be developing an inline 6 for their newer models(Z4 and *40i models)which was bmw so they and bmw engineers worked on developing the B58 with toyotas engineers having an input on the reliability side of things in order for their(toyotas) executives to be able to give it the green light to be fitted into their cars... so it was all down to development cost and of course time. this was the reason why and not because toyota was or is incapable of producing an inline 6 engine...
The B58 is basically a N55/N54 that's been changed to a closed deck and has been improved to not have the types of problems you'd see S55s,N55s,and N54s have and shares components from the B57 i6(like its block)has a forged crankcase and is basically a modular engine anyway. Really looking around in the B58 community I haven't found any types of problems unlike coolant leaks when it was its first year being put in official BMW models but we're later on fixed when BMW made another version of the B58(there are different B58s that are basically the same but might have a few different parts and more or less hp)and I haven't heard any minor or expensive problems at all yet from what i know and coming from bimmer guys with the B58 they say it's a pretty solid engine and has been pretty reliable with no signs of problems.
You can buy the M Sport 330i that comes with the paddle shifters as standard, the car your showing is the standard sport line, at least that how it's sold in Europe. High performance cars are finished now in the UK, it's not worth spending the money on them due to the vast amount of 20mph speed restricted areas the totally congested roads around towns and cities and the price of petrol. If you want a new G20 3 series you really are best off getting the 320i M Sport, still decent performance 0-60 in 7 seconds 184bhp and the same spec as the 330i but much cheaper approx £4000. Also am I correct in saying that the 330i and 340i can only run on premium petrol? The 320i will run on regular petrol or premium.
Hi. It’s still trucking along. Just got another repair done. It dropped a CEL a couple weeks ago and turns out it was a glow plug module which the. Took out another glow plug. 1000 bucks was the result but back on the road

@@ECPP not extra 20k for 330 and 340 man. I test drive both and build it in front of the same both car fully loaded just 10-12k difference without discount
Any car will break down if you don't look after it well. I bought my previous generation F30 BMW since 2014 brand new and it has never let me down. Not even a mirror mechanical or electrical problem has occured. Used it for European road trip 3 times and put over 4000 miles every time. Interior feels still solid as when it was collected. I don't feel it's interior is dated as i have 10.25" big screen with Apple CarPlay and iDrive 6 UI. The only thing i wish it had was different colour ambient LED at night, but it can be retrofitted with parts from eBay or other aftermarket places. I changed the rear lights to LCI design as well, so the rear lights do not look outdated. Great car if you keep up with services such as oil, filter, spark plugs change etc. iDrive will tell you everything about the car and what needs to be replaced or changed.

It might not be an all out M car but trust me it’s not the f30 340i. It’s way more in M territory. Besides, it’s not a fake M. BMW put the M on it so it’s legitimate.

Thank You so for investing sooo much effort in Creating these High Value Videos
Although the 330i use to be the Budget M3 in the past ..... which it has since lost & conceded THE Title to
THE 340i
which I have learned via Your Video's - being THE NEW KING of THE HILL
Thanks again
I really appreciate your positive comments. This is what motivates a person to share in the passion for the unique autos. Cheers
Good job! Enjoyable video
Thanks a lot I am glad you guys enjoyed. Cheers and have a great day
There are M340i's that do have the original style kidney grills.
Is there a part number for that? I'm considering one and I liked the blackout look myself
geez. i wanna buy both now... can you do a review with the newer bmws that come with a manual transmission pleease
That sounds like a great topic. Do you prefer a manual ?
There's newer BMWs with manual transmission? Where?
Leo Sam interested too
Your reasoning was weak and without substance. If I were to go for a 3 series I would go for 330i. Your video lacked any significant value on why one should pay $20k more for a 340i.
Because it is faster. Nuff said.
ExoticCar PlayPlace explain more just saying more speed is childish...
@@Verzula That's exactly why I bought the m340i instead of a 330 though, so what do you want?
@@ECPP That's exactly why I bought the m340i
I just bought the M340i xdrive. Would have never bought it if not for the engine, so the 330 was off the table. My daughter has the 320, and while that’s a nice ride, the 340 is a different animal.
Totally agree. It has invigorating performamce
How about s drive? Honestly does it make a difference on daily usage?
I rather get this than a f80 m3 think about it’s allwheel drive and you can add more power
True the all wheel drive certainly gives it some extra versatility and is tuneable. No crank hub issues in the 40 series cars either.
Sorry
Why not mention the difference in fuel consumption between two cars?
What is the name of that grey on the 340??
Nano grey
It looks like it is dravit grey
Mate another difference is 40is come with no fog light, 140i,240i or 340i have no fog light due to having good air vent
I have the 328i previous model. I think it has more than enough power for daily driving. The sound isn't that pretty though. The Bluetooth isn't that great as well. Other than that it's a great car
The 330 is slower than the Honda 2.0 sport- that says it all to me- of course the m340 is another level and between 330->m330->M3
Does the bmw f90 m5 also have that B58 engine thats seems to be reliable? Plz answer
Enthusiast will choose the M340
yes
Hi thanks for watching, yes the new 340i just arrived at some dealers about a month or so ago. As far as the m3 comparison I will see what I can do
ExoticCar PlayPlace to clarify, I meant the comparison between M340i and either or both M3’s. Thanks for your feedback!
BMW engines always been reliable most of them
@footballcoreano agreed
footballcoreano hahahaaa are you even believing the comment you just made
footballcoreano at the moment toyota does not produce any inline 6 cylinder engines for any of their car models. the last inline 6 was the 2JZ which they stopped producing around 2004 due to the newer toyota/Lexus models from 2005 swapping to V6 engines. for toyota to go back to the drawing board to only produce an inline 6 engine for just one model i.e the new supra would have shifted the cost of the car to around $100 thousand dollars and toyota knows that would be too much for buyers to stomach a hundred grand for a supra when a buyer can have an Italian exotic car (ferrari, lamborghini)for that money.so they went with a company who would already be developing an inline 6 for their newer models(Z4 and *40i models)which was bmw so they and bmw engineers worked on developing the B58 with toyotas engineers having an input on the reliability side of things in order for their(toyotas) executives to be able to give it the green light to be fitted into their cars... so it was all down to development cost and of course time. this was the reason why and not because toyota was or is incapable of producing an inline 6 engine...
320 is joke...seriously
in my opinion for that price you can get the audi rs5 sportback
or get the 330 i and save the extra $20 k for another toy such as Polaris sling shot
new rs5 for 60k? where?
i think the 4cyl is 258 hp and the 6cyl is 387 hp
kick starter the 330xd G20 Msport is 255 hp
spoiler alert: fucking right it is worth it.
100% agreed
How's the X5 doing?
Hi. It’s still trucking along. Just got another repair done. It dropped a CEL a couple weeks ago and turns out it was a glow plug module which the. Took out another glow plug. 1000 bucks was the result but back on the road
Thanks God they're depreciate fast both pricey
True, a bit too pricey
I don't think it's worth it.....but if you can afford it sure
They are getting a bit pricey
You can’t compare both cars one is way faster and has a totally different engine and driving experience the guy looking for that twin turbo 3.0 6 is def worth it
agree! but neither is twin turbo... they are twin scroll single turbo ;)
SuperAleRC the 330i is twin turbo
both fully load not 20k man
What ?
@@ECPP not extra 20k for 330 and 340 man. I test drive both and build it in front of the same both car fully loaded just 10-12k difference without discount
Nice car. I own a Lexus. I like BMW’s, but I hear that they are very unreliable and costly.
Did u guys know thats my best friends dad
Intense Beast huh.....well he sucks
Or instead get an M2C
I would in a heartbeat
ExoticCar PlayPlace Does It really worth over m340i??
Less than $20K difference, that's an exaggeration .
In Canada that’s about the deal
Agree in Canada we have different prices
Can I borrow your time machine
M2 competition
Agreed
If you want 340 performance and features at 330 pricing get a Genesis G70.
That will do it
g70 is far from 340 performances 😂
@@marvinzhang3734 define far? You speak like a child throw some facts. An M340 is not a 330. 255 HP vs 252 HP respectively. Facts hurt don’t they. If you don’t want to look stupid stop being lazy.
0-60 in 4.1 seconds, not 4.2. :)
thanks
Hit 3.8 in my m340
you are very toxic for my bank account
Haha sorry
I will get 330i cuz am poor
Nice car either way
@@ECPP i have 2017 320D ATM but I regret to get it cuz I like pop and bangs xD
Why the 330i is sad
still no seat vent. Pathetic. Only M3 has it.
Sad, sad day when we slap an M badge on cars that you can’t find with a manual.
I totally agree. If this continues and BMW drops all manuals.....bye bye BMW for me.
its 2019 dude TF?
LOVE this new BMW 3-Series BUT I am very disappointed they did away with the halos which was a BMW signature and cool factor. Now, it's just meh...another car.
yeeeeees!
