Beast, I have installed before but that is quick on that
Interesting video. I was told that PFSense recommends that you don't put the wifi card on the device that it was running PFSense. I am not sure if that is true or not.
That's exactly how I understand it and practice too. Wifi should be on it's own..
Great Video & Explanations! Not sure about the Power Plug being 'screwed on' - Prevents accidental disconnects, OK - BUT might just as well physically damage either the Unit or the Cable ...
+1 for the dark theme!
One test you can try is make different vlans and measure the speed between vlans
I could do that for sure ! I need to buy a L2 2.5gig switch first.
Great video! Since the case is the heat sink, does it get warm?
It gets warm, but nothing to be worried about.
Getting ready to build a new Firewall "PFSense" for a client this week. Using some older hardware for the job, you know "the king of cheap" are you going to drive over the thing with your car like Willie Howe did when he got his?
nope, but this one is good price and would fit cheap budget :)
Nice Video.. many thanks. Any chance we'll see the video of the VP6650 in action?
Ill take 2 😁😁
Awesome video. :)
I've got a 1 Gbps symmetrical fiber link at home, with the option to upgrade to 2 gbps symmetrical if I ever become a more interesting person. :P
You mentioned that some people might find the 4 GB of onboard RAM limiting. When would that start to be a problem? Or rather, what sorts of things would I need to be doing in a home environment for that to be a limiting factor?
I'd like to run a VPN at some point, and running that on the firewall itself would be ideal, but it isn't a requirement. I don't see a real need to be doing deep packet inspection or IDS/IPS right now. It's been tricky trying to judge what my minimum hardware spec might be, as so many vendors seem to assume (reasonably) that their customers are in a business environment.
If you run pfsense with vpns you won't have any issues, BUT if you installed opnsense & zenarmor you would run into issue because zenarmor uses ram for UTM apps.
@@JasonsLabVideos Thanks! This is exxactly wht I'm set up on OPNSense and am using VPNs, so it sounds like that would be fine, but I do want to experiment with zenarmor.
What would you recommend as the next step up from this one?
Whats the traffic throughput and resource usage like when it is running a VPN i.e. Wireguard
Haven't tried yet. Soon.
@@JasonsLabVideos looking forward to the next video!
I noticed at 11:20 the CPU temp doesn’t look quite right in the video? Did it just take some time to initialize and for pfsense to read it? I like the device but since I’m migrating from a rack mount server to this device I’ve never had passive cooling so I like to watch the temps 😅
The temps get warm, but nothing to worry about. This passive device will site luke warm.
@@JasonsLabVideos did the dashboard update with the temp? Thx
@@DrivenDynamicsTV send me an email, ill show you screen shots.
