Thanks for this helpful video, Does CanOpener have headphone presets? I think Sonarworks has presets... what do you do if your headphones are not on the preset list? I currently use Sennheiser HD6 MIX (a now discontinued headphone) What is everyone else using?

I use the mixing engineers preset. It's more about your low end response for me. By adding in the crosstalk it's going to give you more realistic bass response. Are you using it conjunctuon with sonarworks?
@@PaulThird Interesting... for me it’s quite the opposite - I hear no effect on bass because its mostly in the center. I hear the crossover more when I listen to a higher tone instrument that ist panned hard left or right. There I can clearly hear the effect moving from the extreme stereo effect of headphones from the side a little bit towards the middle or „front“. I best hear it when its only one instrument. I want to give it a try because atm i mix on my 7.1 sound system, it works but the mixes are ofc not great. Greetings from germany!
You can get very high quality headphones that are pretty flat in their linear frequency response but in most cases you'll find headphones have certain built in eq curves to give them a certain sound so they stand out (specific bass boost, mid dip, high boost, high roll off etc etc) tons of variables. Problem is if you mix through these headphones then your mixing decisions are based on this one reference. So a simple example, you mix on beats Headphones and don't add in as much low end due to the big low end boost already added in the cans. Another listener listens on another set of headphones and complains that the low end is non existent. If you flatten the EQ curve of the headphones then it what it does is it allows for the manufacturers eq curve to be implemented correctly so everybody's listening experience will be the same. The mixes won't sound the same in every headphone obviously but the songs will sound as intended by the manufacturer. It's all about translation. Even the most expensive headphones still have eq curves built in which will impact mixing decisions. It's the main reason why you acoustically treat your mix room and why acoustic engineers are so expensive as your listening environment needs to be as flat as physically possible so your mixes are translatable. Hope that helps

I used it and I do not like it. If the audience is mostly listening on headphones anyway, you are tempted to mix wrong with these cross-talk plugins. If you can make absolute sure it will be heared on speakers then you should use it. These arguments were also brought up by the great Andrew Scheps - his words count for me and he is not using ANY of that fancy compensation stuff when mixing on phones - You just have to get aquainted how your headphones sound on a reverence mix - then you'lll know how you should set your mix
