- Each year #pilots from around the state show off their piloting chops in the Valdez fly-in short takeoff and landing competition. For these pilots flying isn't just means of transportation, it's a way of life.
These skills aren't just used for bragging rights, they're essential for flying in Alaska--whether they're landing on a #remote beach or taking off of a glacier. Meet four talented pilots with one big thing in common, their love of flying their #supercub plane.

When I took glider lessons back in 80-81 the tow planes were exclusively Piper Super Cubs in the traditional yellow.
It didn't take me long to recognize how special those planes are.

This is a wonderful place to learn about these older planes. I just love them. In 2017,We were flown into Dune lake with a 1964 Piper Cub. My husband has a good friend in Alaska that is a pilot. Two people and your gear, it took three trips to get everyone in. That was the best flights I have ever been on. It was like a go cart of the skys. I will never forget how much fun that was. He commented that we traveled light. How much do you need for 3 days. We took 2 chihuahuas too.

Yep. It's all about the mindset. Not all of us started in aeroplanes. Some of us started in paragliders, skydiving, and helicopters. What is possible is only relative in your mind...
