    One thing I really like about this remake is that there won't be any censorship (for example Zeff will eat his own leg instead of losing it in an accident). They also mentioned Oda's artstyle changed a lot over the years, which is perfectly normal, so the studio will stick to one specific art for the character designs and I love that, everything will feel more consistent. I'm also curious about the cover stories, I really hope they can incorporate them all in the canon material - they could create some "extras" section at the end of each episode and add them there, for example

      Is true that would could to see how they gonna thow little easter egg or additionnal forshadowing early, but in this exemple that wouldn't work because sabo wouldn't be dead yet because luffy only met ace and sabo after receiving the hat, or you mean luffy visiting sabo "grave" when he's 17 before going to see

    • @rolando_j_
      @rolando_j_ 3 месяца назад

      Sabo wasn't from Windmill village. He met the mayor and Makino once. And the bandits lived on Mt Corvo with the treehouse near Gray Terminal. It makes no sense for anybody to care about Sabo at Foosha Village. Sabo sailed out of Town Center port not Foosha Village. It's doubtful that either the mayor or Makino could even have known that Sabo was attacked. It's not like Sabo's parents would have owned up to their son being the pirate attacked by a Celestial Dragon. They probably found out at a later visit to Mt. Corvo when he wasn't there. Dadan visits the treehouse when she learns about Ace's death, so there's no reason this isn't where she wouldn't have gone with Ace and Luffy after finding about Sabo being attacked in the fishing boat. This would just be filler that has no basis in cannon lore.
      I'm more concerned about Witt too strictly sticking to manga panels. The walk to Arlong Park is entirely filler created by Toei. That walk adds a huge amount of impact to Nami's request for help in the anime. I would argue that it's the point where most anime watchers bought into One Piece. Sure Nami's request precedes it and it has great impact, but that walk adds so much to the character of Luffy and the crew that he's assembled. In the manga, Luffy grabs the grew then after a panel featuring Nami still crying just appears at the gate to Arlong Park. It's so impactful that the song used during the walk, Overtaken, is later referenced when the crew goes to meet Bege in Wholecake Island. The truth is that Toei didn't do a lot of filler in the East Blue until they left Coco village for Loguetown. This is where Warship Island was added, mostly pointless and actually confuses things when the idea of Celestrial Dragons are introduced. Sanji also enters a cooking contest which is mostly pointless filler when he just bought that fish in the Manga. But the filler for Usopp getting his goggles does add something to Yassap and his ability to match his prowess as a sniper with his inherited will. The One Piece shouldn't add filler stories. But even the dumb filler story of Zoro becoming a babysitter at Water 7 does add pacing to the story while the crew is waiting for the 1000 Sunny to be built. Pacing isn't about making the story as fast as it takes to get through the story. It's about giving the story the sense of timing. Adding content between the drawn Manga panels is needed in an animated adapation of a comic. This stuff should not be avoided. It should be embraced. The bad pacing stuff is telling the Rebecca backstory 100 times, the 5 second glances back and forth before a fight o reusing the same B-roll footage at the events of Flower Capitol during the fight at Onigashima just slows down the storytelling when they should just stick to what is actually going on, which is fighting.

Characters show up in background shots before they get formally introduced. Little things like that that help with the world building. I feel like The One Piece can do some additions like that.

      Im confused over everyone's excitement. Do we all remember what early one piece is like and you want them to be more accurate to the manga? It will take another 1000 episodes? Adding in cover stories (the original anime did this too and people hated it), i like the remake idea but unless they just streamline and finish like arcs in 3 eps or so people might be bored coming from way more heavy action focused early eps. Not saying that one piece is boring or bad it's good just want people to notice were all asking for the impossible. Well see. Just think a streamlined short one piece would be better for new fans then 100 eps to cover every single thing.

    While it may be true that Usopp never had much of a skin tone difference whenever Oda did a Volume cover or other colored art piece I feel it helps add visual variety at the very least to give him a darker skin tone. Obviously not a deal breaker, but ah well.
    What I am hoping for is for each arc to be treated as its own series, so to speak. Animation, music score, everything reconsidered per-arc to suit the tone and themes.
    Voice actors usually crave a consistent meal ticket so many are likely to want to reprise, but I hope both the Japanese and English cast gets a shakeup. As much as I adore Sonny Strait and Stephanie Young letting new actors take on the roles makes for more fun in comparing and contrasting adaptations.

    Earlier this year, I had the opportunity to ask Usopp's VA if he would continue to voice Usopp in the remake. He said he hasn't been reached out to, but that he would like to continue to play the role in the remake.
    Personally, as much as I love these VAs, I do hope they get a fresh cast. Their age is unfortunately a factor (eg Franky sounds pretty bad now) and it'd be best to find new people that fit WIT's direction.

    I’m so excited for this project and one distinction I think is super impactful for people to consider is not to look at this as a remake of the anime but rather a new adaptation of the manga. A new teams vision for animating the source material, not a “how do we condense the existing show and make it look modern.” The potential and passion on display is exciting beyond belief!

  • @nikjovan4816
    @nikjovan4816 3 месяца назад +15

    I imagine that there will be new voice actors, because most of the original ones are older in their 60s and 70s. I don't think having them work on two One Piece animes is reasonable and if something happens to them you would have to replace them anyway. So it's much safer to get new ones. The main thing that this remake is good for, beyond less censorship and more modern animation, is the pacing. The second half of the original anime has major pacing issues and adapts around 1 chapter per episode to not catch up to the manga. Meanwhile you standard modern anime episode adapts around 3 chapters per episode. If the One Piece remake does this it could cut down the length of the anime by more than half, which would make the series so much more approachable. They can now adapt exactly how many chapters an episode needs.

  • @timogul
    @timogul 3 месяца назад +3

    That actually reminds me, a trend in modern anime is to have little "chibi characters goofing off" scenes after the end credits. That would be a perfect place to put "cover stories," just have quick vignettes of them at the end of each episode.

  • @pickthestickup

  • @salvadorsalgado5212
    @salvadorsalgado5212 3 месяца назад +3

    them making the 3D map is amazing and it's taking advantage of one of OnePiece's biggest strengths, it's WORLD. It's not always complete, but One Piece has such a detailed and thought out world, that they can take advantage of it fully, even if its not complete in some cases, it has more detail, logic and thought that most other series, so them being able to create those maps is the biggest hack ever that will streamline their work soooooo much. For an artist to have a tool so powerful for keeping perspective in mind, the parallax, the distances, the sizes, for thinking of the best places to put a "camera" (the perspective in this case), instead of incentivising them to go for the basics, to just choose a more normal angle for a scene and stick to it, it can actually facilitate and make it posible for them to show a scene in a much more complete and artistic way by having different shots and angles and perspectives. And to also keep an amazing thing from the manga, how the world feels so real, how characters move around a space, from a point to another, or in a fight, and it feels real, because the perspective of the background and it's landmarks is CONSISTENT. Wano act one is a ridiculous example of it, specially the whole scene outside bakura town with Luffy, Tama, Tsuru and Okiku. Oda is an actual cinematographer with it's pen and paper, his control over perspective is insane, and for HIM to put more effort into the cinematography and to show his world through different shots than what the anime usually does, it's crazy.
    Filmmaking and animation as well is very much like magic tricks, you only notice them when they're not done correctly, they break immersion, but when you fake it so well with those details, they blend together in a seamless experience that you never question, because it feels real, it is real. And there's a reason why one piece is memed so hard, characters moving through a space and never advancing, it feeling like they're so slow cuz of it (also because the background is static and doesn't move with them conveying the speed and progress), how they're always in the same space because it looks the same, generic without landmarks to differentiate it, how every action is slow and weak etc. Especially in the post dressrosa anime, even today when it's not a hype chapter with insane budget.

    Honestly seeing them refer to props and draw frames while looking at the manga pages made me even more excited. I love how detailed all the concept art is. I love that in the character sheets, you can tell that Zoro and Sanji have different builds and body types. And while they should maybe saturate everything a little more, I love the maker look. It looks just like the color spreads. I hope they keep it. But the production team is crazy! The _Attack on Titan_ director, the director of _Jujutsu Kaisen_ as your assistant director, the action animators for the remake worked on _Boruto_ and _My Hero Academia,_ the writer of _Ranking of Kings,_ and the _Attak on Titan, Spy x Family_ and _First Slam Dunk_ character designers! What‽ The board member of WIT in the video said he first heard about the project 4-5 years ago so it seems like they started working on this around the same time as season 1 of the live-action One Piece.
    I love that they really seem to be sticking to manga fidelity. But I also hope that they play when it comes to stuff set up early on but we now know 1000 chapters later. For instance, in Buggy’s fight with Shanks during the Orange Town flashback, we know the pirate who broke it up was Rayleigh. So show us young Rayleigh from the Oden flashback. Don’t just make it the random pirate that Oda had to retcon into Rayleigh. Show other of the Roger pirates like Scopper, whom we meet in the Oden flashback. But maybe not Crocus or Oden. At Reverse Mountain, show us Yorkie, not the captain who would have to be retconned into Yorkie. Show us a character from the back that could be Brook. The Supernovas weren’t planned so maybe foreshadow them a bit with reports and new stories about other rookies tearing up other seas. Do what the Live Action did with those Foxy and Cavendish posters. And I hope they capture those moments in the early manga that when a character genuinely smiles, they shine in the panel.

    I'm happy about this project. The only thing I'm sad about is the Voice Actors. Mayumi Tanaka IS Luffy. Her voice is Forever going to be Luffy for me. She also stated that she'll retire soon and is gonna be in the process of picking a new Voice Actor for Luffy. I know she is past the age of working and she definitely deserves the rest for the great work that she already did. If she retires soon, I hope that in the final episode of One Piece, She comes back and Voices Luffy One last time.

    With the current position OnePiece is in, any big player would wanna jump on that opportunity to bring more people in..Netflix did. AoT Director did for his passion.

    I know a lot of people are hesitant about having another one piece anime while the original is still ongoing, but i ttinkgiving the series a modern style jump adaptation with a huge amount of the story already written and ready to be adapted means they can better judge how to structure things and white small details they can omit vs the ones that become relevant 500 chapters later

    On the note of cover stories, one idea I thought of was the way Mushoku Tensei used the opener for a lot of its episodes. The OP played while a silent “film” ran
    It’d be cool for that to happen with the cover stories getting fleshed out a little but still staying “cover stories”

  • @LPTheGas
    @LPTheGas 3 месяца назад +8

    Early on, the Toei version actually DID adapt the cover stories, including Little Buggy's adventures. The other major one I remember is Koby and Helmeppo being navy chore boys and then training under Garp, before we knew who Garp really was. Then they stopped doing it at some point shortly into the Grand Line, which is weird because you'd think they'd take any opportunity for filler. I mean we don't get Enel's adventures on the moon, but somehow they had time to make up a feudal Japan alternate universe storyline where Luffy's big ambition is to be his town's head cop instead? (OTOH skipping the cover stories DID mean anime-onlies got spared from one of Oda's rare Ls, when he cheapened Bon Clay's heroic sacrifice by showing that he actually survived somehow.)
    Oh, and while in general I'm all for it being more true to the manga, I really wish Oda would admit that certain visual changes Toei made were in fact improvements and retcon them into the canon, i.e. the darkening of Usopp and Robin's skin and making Robin's eyes blue. I can live with Robin being pale, but I'm gonna really hate it if her eyes are brown when this version gets around to introducing her - I don't have the art theory knowledge to explain why, but blue just gels with the rest of her design so much better.

    Really the most exciting thing to me would mostly come in later on if they improve the pacing, this has been a criticism of the main anime for a long time now. Seeing an OP anime that actually moves forward and isn't padded to hell and back is the biggest thing for me. But again that will only really come into play in later arcs.

    The thing I'm much more excited about is that a One Piece series that will likely be more well animated with a much faster pace will be the perfect way to introduce people to it.
    No disrespect to the Toei series but because it's been weekly for 2+ decades they both have to stretch out the pace and can't always have as high quality animation (though of course it's become more incredible over time) and all of that combined with starting people at the beginning will be a great way to hive all the people I know who was put off by Toei's long episode list and pace (and who don't want to read) a new jumping in point without all the baggage

    Just to temper a bit.
    While everything you say is true and it's exciting to get a new One Piece by passionate people, we need to remember that this is still a japanese animation studio so those passionate people will most likely have the passion and life squeezed out of them on the altar of quick production and cost saving.
    Especially since Netflix is notorious for seriously underpaying its japanese animation staff, going as far as being below the japanese average, which is already extremely low in itself.
    I share your excitement, but I think the praise about the passion of the team is a soured by what I know about this industry having worked with studios there.

All those issues that the current running anime had with pacing, censorship, and inconsistency (This also applies to Oda's own drawings) will all be addressed, hopefully. My only concern would be VAs and audio in general, if they can nail that I believe this will be the definitive version of One Piece, not taking anything away from the amazing work of the current animators over at Toei.
