Having dan and stupes back to back with two different versions of unstable minds as the closing pages of this just really encapsulates the tone of fairy tales origins.
so, the rewind part was actually referencing to the whole song, there's a lot of hidden references in the entire song. Like, for example, the intro tells you every character in the cypher, without outright saying them.
So mercurial has 4 meaning in that song. Mercurial could mean ever changing as in wonderland, it could refer to someone acting strange, it also can mean free flowing like you would describe the verse, and finally hatters in olden times went “mad” because of chemicals they used and inhaled one of which was mercury
Humpty Dumpty was a cannon that fell off a castle wall. It was changed to an egg because it was an egg shell shaped based cannon I believe or some kind of small thing like that
From what i remember the golden goose was about this guy that found a goose that laid golden eggs for him but then because he was dumb and greedy he ripped the goose open hoping to find lots of golden eggs inside (not knowing thats not how eggs work) the goose died and laid no more eggs.
Idk if thats accurate just the story i remember.
The murcury bar was about hat glue that had murcury in it and it tended to make hatters abit bent in the head after a while. Thats why the saying "Mad as a hatter" makes sense. An Other occupation that had this problem were mirrior makers. The fumes are bad.. dont freebase glue and handle murcury without gloves and respirators people!
