- Alter Mann off of the album Sehnsucht (1997) by Rammstein. This song was performed I think three times after its official release. The demo version was played back in 1994 but it had a completely different musical structure. The lyrics however remained the same on the official one. Ripped from the original VOB-file. 720p HD-quality. Okay I know it's not a "real" HD-video since the tape seems to be very old and it has some distortion on it. I think there might be a better DVD somewhere which means the quality is slightly better than on this one. But I don't have that DVD currently. :( Anyway...enjoy!

It's a shame they never made Alter Mann a concert staple. It's one of my favorite songs for about the past 15 years.

@@castor4357 Maybe or they just did not like the song anymore. It happens sometimes. Here's a funny story why they omitted "Dalai Lama" from the setlist and they only played it once in Mannheim. "Our manager was at a concert and told us that everybody went for a piss during that song." - Flake

Many great songs thay don’t sing now, for example Spring, Spieluhr, Fruhling in Paris and etc... Spieluhr or Spring - one of the greatest songs ever written

Such a great performance. Goes to show Rammstein doesn't need all of their pyrotechnics and special effects to be great. They can hold it on their own, musically.
Nobody can match Till's passion on stage. Nobody. He puts so much of himself into these songs.

I love this song. It his harsh and heavy, but it has a sad edge to it that weights heavy on your mind.

@@thegame890 Yes they are, but I meant the feeling of the song in general. The instrumental part in the end even more so.
Or maybe I'm depressed and everything hits me that way.
For me it's that melancholic sound of the piano that makes it sound so sad.
What a passionate performance by Till. Richard seems to perform fervently as well. It's a pity, that this great song was played so rarely. At least we have this excellently filmed gig.

They never played live Kuss Mich and Eifersucht. And Klavier an this one were played just sometimes in Sehnsucht tour. Whoever recorded this concert is a legend

Alter Mann and Halleluja are my two favorite R+ songs and if I heard them performed live, I’d absolutely lose my mind
people can say that ''rammstein relies on pyrotechnics'' all they want but that's simply not true and I think this is a good example of that. till has such an incredible and captivating stage performance, even without all the effects you can really see that this is his passion, in fact all of the live performances from the earlier days of the band are just unbelievably amazing
Nowadays it's definetely more pyro than anything else, still a great band though
man, the passion Till puts into his singing is something else
Gotta love Till's lower E during verses. He hits them perfectly.

It's curious how every crew member is jamming on one of their best songs, while Christoph (the drummer) is constantly looking around at everybody else making sure that everything looks and feels right overall.
so this is the only live they do of alter mann huh? that sucks. one of my favorite songs
+Stormbringer81 They have played it few times but they have never released an official live version of the song. I wish Rammstein released a box set with many rare demo songs and live shows. Flake Lorenz once said they have played Kokain a few times but I'm not sure if they recorded the performance.
+thegame890 there is a pro shot of Alter Mann from Düsseldorf 1997 from the Tor 3 venue but they only released snippets in an interview
Vienna (1996), Amsterdam and Offenbach (1997). And a rare old version during the Herzeleid days has a recording from Schlettwein (1994).

I think I spent 4 hours looking for the performance of "Alter Mann" from 15.05.1997 (Düsseldorf, Tor 3), does anyone know if this is even available on the Internet? I would love to listen to the whole concert in general, I even managed to dig up 10.10.1996 (Vienna Austria, Rockhaus). Amazing performance... calm and emotional at the same time
