After the update it prompted for a factory reset, which I did. All the new V2 kits were loaded, but none of my old user kits were there. That's what I expected. I then inserted my backup card and selected "load" with user content selected. That worked too, but it overwrote all the new v2 kits with the original v1 kits, plus my original user kits. I tried to go through the v2 install process again, and that worked, but this time it did not prompt for a factory reset and it did not reload any of the v2 kits. David O same thing happened to me. You can factory reset by hitting the setup button and scrolling down - the second to last option is factory reset. If you hit that, you'll get the factory reset which will restore the version 2 kits again.
@@Sweet92879 Your trick about doing a manual factory reset worked! After I did that, all the new v2 kits magically reappeared. That's great! I'm still not out of the woods though. I inserted the backup card that I made in "step 1" and tried to reload my user kits using the Other->Save/Load menu, but they did not appear and I couldn't reload them. My guess is that because the backup I made was a full backup of everything, my user kits are embedded inside of it and can't be individually extracted. This doesn't make sense. I download version 2 to my desktop download folder but how does it get recognized by the module if I' m supposed to make sure I don't load it into the SD card????
The 2.0 has 70 kits. On the old version I had about 12 kits from EDrum Workshop with actual drum samples. Even with 30 remaining user kits available and after deleting 8 of the EDrum kits, I still don't have room to add the 2 new kits I just bought. It's a shame that when you utilize a great feature like actual drum samples, it severely limits how many kits you can load. I don't need 70 kits and I wish I could just delete 2/3 of them to free up space but apparently you can't.
Add the E-drum kits on a different SD card or 32 gig card possibly? I was wondering the same thing. Pretty sure all the 2.0 update are stored in the td-17 module and any additional samples and paid presets are stored on the SD card. Make a separate folder on SD card and add the kits you want might work, I'm not sure new at this too.
@@fabianvasquezjr8852 it's the "User Samples" from Roland's new kits that take up the memory as it turns out. After going through all of them I decided to keep the "wood shell" kit only. I think that's kit#1 or #2. The rest weren't kits I'd ever use. You have to then go in and delete all unwanted samples, leaving just the one "wood shell" sample. From there I was able to add 7 or 8 of my favorite EDrum kits. I overwrote all the Roland kits that had user samples with 1 of their kits like "Rock Studio" or something like that, which didn't use samples. I guess you could put all the EDrums on separate disks and load every time but I want it clean and simple so I can just sit down, turn it on and play. Unless they can somehow add more memory capability I think I've got it about as good as it can be. Luke at EDrum Workshop was helpful as always in trying to sort it out.

Hi, last night I updated my TD-17 and the overall volume of everything (kit, click, aux) is lower. I have increased pad sensitivities to 32 max which made a slight difference. Can anyone tell me how to get it back to previous volume levels please? Before the update the volume control would be about 1/4 turned now 4/5 to max!!
Besides the lower kit volume, which is not great but not a showstopper, it looks like the MIX IN level is lower too. I often play along to songs from my iPhone, which is connected via cable to the MIX IN input on the back of the module. I have to crank the volume of the iPhone music (on my iPhone) to absolute maximum level to get any decent volume out of it. Even with the kit volumes being lower, the MIX IN level is so low that the my drumming more or less drowns out the music when I play along using my headphones. I tried lowering the kit volume and cranking the volume knob all the way up on the module, but that didn't work very well either. Right now I don't have any good solution for this.
Does this 2.0 update include the extra kits that come with the VAD306/7? Currently, if I factory reset my TD17, I lose the 10 extra kits that come with my VAD306 version of the TD17. Any help??? Thanks!
For anyone curious, I ended up finding the answer. The 2.0 update includes the 10 extra kits, plus an additional 10 for a total of 20 extra kits. Another thing worthy of note: when trying to format my new 32GB SD card, I kept getting an 'Error' on my TD17. Turns out, I was still able to add the update from my computer and load the 2.0 update into my TD17 as shown in this video. In short, if you get an error when formatting your SD card from the TD17 module, it may still work. Enjoying the update so far, thanks Roland!
Seems like this update deletes all of your custom pad settings and reduces the number of user kits from 50 to 30? Does it also reduce the amount of storage available for user samples?
When he says that TD-17-KVX owners are already running the 2.0 software, does this mean that we already have these new kits and sounds installed? So we don’t need to update our systems? If this is true, getting an email that tells me to update my kit is confusing if it actually doesn’t apply to me.
Go to Setup > Bluetooth > F2 Setup > Device ID and change it to 1. Mine was defaulted to Off and even though it looked like it was in pairing mode nothing would recognize it.
You can back them up to a formatted SD card from the setup button of the td-17 module, but first copy every kit from v1 to user content, check ✅ the user content box when backing up. After updating to v 2.0 you can load from SD card back up.

@@boblewis2287 Thanks. Figured that out right after I posted 🤪
I’m using Windows 10. Does anyone have the steps for Windows 10?
Ok, I just started this update now, but is it free?
When he says that TD-17-KVX owners are already running the 2.0 software, does this mean that we already have these new kits and sounds installed? So we don’t need to update our systems? If this is true, getting an email that tells me to update my kit is confusing if it actually doesn’t apply to me.
if you have 50 preset kits, you're on v1, if 70, you're on v2
Hi, anyone noticed that with v2 version, bluetooth option has disappeared? or is it just my module?
Go to Setup > Bluetooth > F2 Setup > Device ID and change it to 1. Mine was defaulted to Off and even though it looked like it was in pairing mode nothing would recognize it.
@@s2pidwheels358 nah, minee is td17-l that doesnt have bluetooth support. I had never tried bluetooth till the update and that's when i notices 😅😅
Great! Are the V1 factory kits still available in V2?
You can back them up to a formatted SD card from the setup button of the td-17 module, but first copy every kit from v1 to user content, check ✅ the user content box when backing up. After updating to v 2.0 you can load from SD card back up.
Wow, this is the most unintuitive upgrade process I've seen in a really long time. The Boss Katana amp is not exactly smooth, but it's miles easier than this. Why are there no easy to follow guides available when Google searching for "How to update Roland TD17"? Please get your act together Roland!
i know what you mean, im not the sharpest tool in the shed and its taken a few months to wrap my head around things, after ive bashed it into a brick wall of course lol. but now ive worked it out its actually really simple, didnt know i could do so much with td17 it was a really good investment
At website, NO search feature. Please don't build websites with no Search Feature. It's just cruel and unnecessary. C'mon. There is an educate based on Communally Agreed to structures that we, as humans, have agreed is best. Indefensible. Particularly as THERE IS NO LONGER A CLOUD BUTTON IN UPPER RIGHT AS VIDEO STATES. It's a box on a screen and not the first screen you'd get to, it's on the Backstage screen, as a banner, after you page down.
Dear idiots at Roland. How does one do this if one doesn't have an sd card slot on a computer? I mean, seriously. You're telling me the usb port can't deliver this firmware?
Literally same question. So I have to buy an sd card AND an sd card reader for this shit. I haven't own an sd card since cellphones' capacities started making owing cameras and sd cards pointless. I really can't believe this
Sd card? Are you kidding me? We're in 2024. I appreciate the update, but they didn't think of this when they didn't even include a USB port to connect to a pc ffs
I never buy Roland instruments again, I have the TD15K and they don't update the midi controller for Apple M1, it's useless for me... Horrime company,... Support is essential to build customer loyalty and word of mouth... .
and? or do roland products have a scheduled expiration date?! In my country, I bought it new 6 years ago, and? Even the old cars, the good ones!, have spare parts,....
