Opening A Coconut with The KABAR Combat Kukri

  • Part of my continued use of the KA-BAR Combat Kukri includes unconventional uses...including opening a shucked coconut.
Though I could have used a rock, and a sharp stick, this was much cooler and more fun.
This particular coconut was called a "white coconut" and was purchased at a grocery store for about $4.99 as you see it in the video.
Had it been younger, the white meat inside would have been creamy and gelatinous. and the nut would have had more water.
The older they get, the water volume is less, and "gelatinous" begins to take on a thicker, more substantial "meat"
Both are usable and which one you choose is a matter of personal preference.
Beware a nut that is very dark, with no sound of shaking water inside, as it may be too old, and a "bad nut to crack"
You remove the meat with a spoon or some-such tool, shred it, roast it or eat it raw. Younger nut meat is often blended up as a smoothie.
To make Coconut milk, blend together the meat and the water of the nut.
