  • After Kobe Bryant’s shocking death, Lakers legend Jerry West opened up about their close friendship.
West considered Bryant to be a part of his family, telling “Extra’s” Billy Bush, “I feel like I lost a son… When we traded for him, he was 17. To watch him grow up and be part of our family for two to three months here, he'd come here and have dinner. My son would drive him around to practice. My son Ryan took him places.”
One of Jerry’s sons has been in communication with one of Kobe’s sisters since his death. West shared, “His personal family, is just traumatized and devastated, as any family would be.”

Probably never😔 I went to a funeral yesterday of a man who lived a full life and had 11 grandkids and 8 great grandkids and I could only think of the 9 nines taken too soon from this world who made it a better place. The more I hear about Kobe and Gianna the more sad I become because they contributed so much to society and gave back so much. My niece had a volleyball game at Gianna Bryant's school (Harbor Day) same day as the funeral. I'm reminded everywhere I turn of those lives lost. I can't even watch basketball without feeling sad. I haven't felt passionate about my Lakers since Kobe retired. The person he was upon retirement was even more remarkable and we wont get to see that and his daughters will have to grow up not being raised by someone who gave 100 who loved them unconditionally and his wife wont have him by her side. Just hurts my heart. It's not the way I ever imagined someone so great like him leaving this world with his daughter, the next mamba, Mambacita. Seems unfair and I've yet to find any peace about what happened to him and his daughter and their friends.

Yes, very true. Just think that his dad paved the way for him because he was a pro basketball player, and his parents took him to Italy, where he later learned to speak fluent Italian. His mom named him, and of course had him. So he owed them a lot, and for them to have not even been mentioned during the memorial service is bullshit. I don’t like the girl he married at all. And this Kobe would not have been who he was had it not been for his parents.

Actually his parents were left with nothing. They have no rights to his money. It’s that chick who he was married to, she gets it all. His folks were right about disagreeing with him getting married. No kid in their early 20’s at the height of their career need to be thinking about marriage. So I’m not mad at his parents for not showing up at that wedding. He was much too young. And I believe their was no prenup signed by this girl, let alone such a thing discussed between the two. As I said, his chick gets it all.

Is it really "everybody pretending his parents don't exist"? I don't know The Bryant's personally however the fact that your parents don't support your wedding or retirement from the NBA speaks volume. I don't know if he invited them and they refused not to support or if they didn't attend because they weren't invited? I won't make accusations against anyone. However, it's clear there were some family issues that went unresolved. As a parent, my children don't always do things that I agree with. I don't always do things my children agree with. That doesn't stop us from supporting another. A wedding and retirement are typically considered a huge success. You can't help who you love. I hope the family was able to heal before his untimely death. Prayers of peace and comfort during this difficult time.

Not necessarily. They had a rocky relationship. His parents tried to sell his memorabilia. They were ungrateful for the financial support that he had given them which was already good. They wanted more. He had to sue them and they made a public apology. I believe this was in 2015 or 2016. And, the parents didn't want Kobe to marry her. So they didn't have a good start either. More years of a strained relationship in the beginning. Remember, Vanessa was his wife who knew EVERYTHING. She knew how Kobe felt about his parents. She didn't do anything that he had not already requested. He was a smart man and was prepared for his death. She carried out his wishes. If he wanted them to speak, that would have been arranged, no doubt. We don't know the reasons or any of the details because it was a private family matter. Let's not be quick to judge.

Corie Barnes take your own advice. Your welcome to your opinion and so am I. Even if parents are deceased they are mentioned at their children’s funeral and this wasn’t even the case here. Y’all in so much support of Vanessa bc she’s grieving from loosing her child but don’t give the same respect to Kobe’s parents. I don’t care about that woman selling anything that was left at her house bc it was hers and she should never have had to with a son worth so much money. It’s easy for y’all to say Kobe cut his family off bc they wanted too much but the same much he cut them off from giving he freely have to Vanessa’a family and it wasn’t a problem. The first house he bought Vanessa’s mom could have bought 3 of the ones his mom asked for. But keep believing everything your told too while you still can’t see for looking.

Kobe and Gianna, now you will always remain young and vibrant as your last day on earth, while we all grow old.

Maybe they disliked because they dislike the fact that Kobe is dead. Dislikes don’t always have to be negative.

Maybe because there are people who aren't celebrities ...who have lost loved ones just because your a famous person you hear about it nonstop ......like they are more important than other families who have been through the same tragedy ...or even worse things have happened to them like having a child who was murdered ...idk ...
