The annointing is so heavy on this song- She is not just singing, she is pleading to us, crying out to our inner man. Her voice on this song, became a double edged sword that cut my heart open and the holy spirit came pouring in! How wonderful it must have been for those who witnessed this live- they must have all been on the floor by the time it was over- I'm always affirming my allegiance to Christ when I hear this. Thank You god!
Actually she already went in 1987 when she signed under the late Thomas Whitfield production company to Sound of Gospel Records. Her first LP was, “Just As I Am”. She was still singing with SIC until she was signed to Tribute in 1990 in which that was the last year SIC released their final nationally released album on Sweet Rain Records (same label Bishop Hezekiah Walker was on back then) which was a studio album. Her second album came out on Tribute Records in 1991 “Through The Storm” in which was produced by (now Pastor) Ben Tankard. And the rest was history from there. SIC just recently celebrated their 50th Golden Anniversary with a full concert of all their hits. Their a video clips on RUclips. I have all Yolanda’s LPs and CDs as well as SIC dating back to the Savoy Records and Jewel Records days!
Wow! 💃🏾🙌🏾❤️🙌🏾💃🏾This took me back to Sunday mornings while getting ready for church and listening to Burke Johnson (RIP) on Inspirations Across America.
I love listening to Yolanda Adams on this song and my liberty. This is why God chose her to sing his gospel. She meant it! I also remember her on stellar awards back in the day singing even me. She truly expressed her love for God in these songs.
She sang that!!! We met at Texas Southern; I was in a new Community Choir. She sat down at my table we talked she was asking me about singing with them. I hate I didn’t keep in touch!!!She have a sweet soul!!
This is sanging...Listen to Yolanda and the different levels in the choir, now this is sanging this is the kind of gospel I was raised on, and some 30 years later, I still love it.
THis was my favorite choir growing up. I went to church with several members including Yolanda. Yall should have heard Yolanda lead "My Liberty" with the choir in 1990 for their 20th Anniversary. She KILLLLLLLLLLLLLED it!!! I was real young, but I remember that. I was in AWE!
I have ALWAYS liked this tune from the first time I heard it! I don't know why I didn't buy it!!! Amazingly, I found a copy of the "My Liberty" album at a local record shop a few years ago (a "small miracle" after 20 something years!). hope their music is re-released someday--on CD or even music downloads. This still sounds fresh!
I absoultely love this choir! I have several of there projects. Well of course I got them after the fact but hey I love this choir! They were ahead of there time! If you listen to there music, you could hear why. dex (zm)
I fall out in tears everytime I listen to this song. She was truly ministring to peoples souls with everything she had in her when she sang this. Amen Lord Jesus!
MAAAAAAAAAAN OMG I remember the day my tape player ripped this one up. I was heartbroken. Thank you SO much for posting this. Man I've been looking for this album everywhere. LOVED IT!
Yolanda's first solo project is entitled, " Just As I Am" produced by Thomas Whitfield. It came out in 1988-1989. It stayed on the top of Billboard's top charts for two years straight.
I also loved to hear Carl Preacher play that organ...ooh wee...he was somebody's musician for sure. He also could write a song. "My Liberty" for instance. Brenda Waters could direct a choir and write a song like nobody's business.
Ooh Weee....this brings back memories. Does anybody remember Yolanda's trio? Yolanda, Rise (Shirley Joiner's Daughter) and Hedrick (Brenda water's daughter). They could truly sing...but could never finish a song without crying. It used to drive Brenda Waters nuts...lolol
April 4, 2020 Some are in crises Some are in Christ Some are in panic Some are in peace Some focus on fear Some focus on faith Some trust in technology Some trust in the Trinity What or Who makes the difference in your life?
Man...this song just took me back to my days of being a youth musician in my hometown...the Youth Choir used to sing the notes off this song!!! I can't stop listening to it now...Thanks for posting it!
you dont know how much this blessed my life. esp with the day i was having...again thanks so much! i too love that old school gospel music, nothing like it.
Oh, how I would LOVE to have this on CD! Thanks for posting it. I come back periodically and "zone" on this highly anointed and "cranking" song! Both the choir AND the soloist made this song HAPPEN! Of course, the musicians and directors are major contributors, too! Carl Preacher, what I know of his his music, was an excellent songwriter and musician, with the Southeast Inspirational Choir, as a pianist for Sara Jordan Powell, as a member of the trio BC&S, and also on his solo work.
Yolanda Adams is a personal friend and more than a singer she is a great person! Yes," Just As I Am" was a great project, she still does awesome projects. God has certainly enlarged her territory and as a result many people that could care less about gospel music, listen now. So maybe her ministry is not for you at this point, but it is for those that do not put gospel music in a box. Yes, I speak from the gospel music industry side as well as a avid music buyer.
Johnzoe777 .... Bless u!!!! I have been looking for this song. This takes me way back. This was the jam when I was a little boy! I'm gonna have to teach this to the youth choir at my home church.
The situation was out of control; in fact, I came to the point of death by suicide. But then something happened. The LORD began to work within me stirring up my memory. He reminded me of Psalm 118:17 and, like the psalmist, I proclaimed in faith, "I will live and not die." Jesus's love lifted me as I repeatedly spoke these words of life. It was the Lord's doing, not mine at all. Now, I gladly declare what the Lord has done. JESUS MADE THE DIFFERENCE
I have been searching for this song for so long. Didn't know who sang it all I knew was the chorus. I should've known it was Yolanda Adams. You have really blessed me today. I used to listen to the first two minutes and some seconds of this song on a cassette my mother used to have for the longest because she the tape ran out. LOL! Thank you so much.
Great song! Our "famous" choir did this song for a festival in the 11th grade. Angela sang gorgeous high notes, and I think a man named O'landa Draper helped us, as did Ms. Hedgeman... Loved that song!!!!!
+Ken BJC Was it the choir of Creshaw High in Los Angeles those kids can blow!! The have been tearing up school choir scene for years but you still look like you in the 11th grade
God led me to this album on Paula Records a long time ago! I was so estatic to get it cause I didn't know there was stuff out on her prior to that hard to get debut CD! I wore that disc out, it got scratched, and eventually I had to throw it out! ;-(...Lol!
does anyone have all of the words to the lead? Googled the words and none of them are right. There is a part of the second verse that I can't make out the words
2nd verse. I was oppressed from every side. I did not have a place to hide. Thats when the devil came, he tried to claim, my soul in sin, but that is when, He stepped right in and saved my soul again. Oh Lord.
I know this is a stretch but does anybody have the song "seek ye the Lord" It was sung by Outreach Baptist Church pretty much home church for Southeast. Led by Yolanda Adams if so can you please post it or tell me where I can buy it??
NO SHADE THERE ARE SOME REMAKES THEY NEED TO JUST HEAR AND NOT REDO CUZ THE VOCALS ARE TO HIGH OF A STANDARD FOR TODAY ARMATURES TO REACH LOL THE SINGING TECHNIQUES ARE TOO RAW LISTEN TO HER VOICE. PRAY FOR SOME NEW SONGS THE LORD WILL SEND IT
cassnova brown Thank you for your comment! I completely agree with you. Some songs should just be left alone. Most choirs today won't touch the songs of old because they simply cannot reach the notes. My son, who is half my age tells me all the time that he wishes he had my voice range. I'm 50+ years old and can sing 1st alto, but when I talk I sound like I sing bass. Singers today seem to concentrate on vocal histrionics rather than vocal range expansion. That's just my opinion.
The annointing is so heavy on this song- She is not just singing, she is pleading to us, crying out to our inner man. I love this song. I didn't know Yolanda Adams did the lead vocals with this choir. Awesome.
This is sanging...Listen to Yolanda and the different levels in the choir, now this is sanging this is the kind of gospel I was raised on, and some 30 years later, I still love it.
Man, You're pulling out the classics. Thank You so much. This was the jam when I was a little boy. Yolonda was killing!!!

I agree. I don't know which I like best... My Liberty or this song w/ her singing lead.

I have to subscribe. I love old school. It's what I was raised on.

Sometimes I just listen to this song and be like “ she sang the hell out of this song” fresh out of high school
I thought your same words!!! Would love to see a video of this recording
