@@MadDecentRacing forsure, its coming along good so far too. its awesome to see the process for all us regular dudes out there wanting our own garage one day. simple, not crazy expensive and functional
Great video Dan! It's the small garage/shop content that I love and find relatable. I thought I was the only one that set out an uncrustable and would only eat it at a daily milestone reward 😂
Hell yeah! I love the shop infrastructure stuff (Adam Savage term). I’ve been wanting to build a similar cabinet to hang on the wall, so this was perfect timing.
Love the garage content. Organization is so important in a small shop. I only have a 1 bay 20x30 shop and these videos motivate me to go get things more organized than they already are.
Looking good Dan! While you're in there, flip the hinges on your fridge. :D. For 2 of the best carts I ever built; little 3-tier IKEA RÅSKOG rolling cart. They're like 15"x12"x25" tall. I bolted my socket rail to the top (Harbor Freight 4-wide unit that holds 1/2-inch drive all the way to 1/4". I only have Metric on it - VW guy here), and made a spot to hold my wrenches, a pick tool, hose clamp pliers, and to hold just a bit of stuff. the middle bin is for the lesser-used things, like my Allen Head wrenches (on smaller wooden tool rails that are like 8"x8"), and the bottom is just for parts storage. It literally moves everywhere with me when I work on cars. I'm never looking for tools. I keep a few wrenches on it, but most of those are in the toolboxes. Next, I did the same with my grinders. I keep the guards on and hang the grinders on the outside edge of the middle bin. The bins store the angle grinder, media, discs, scraps that I'm using for sheet metal repair. Same thing; it just follows me wherever I go because it's so small. And they both fit under a workbench when I'm not using them. OK, the socket one I just leave out because I'm always using it. Will try to send something to your IG.
A stainless roasting tin, for the top of your storage cart, you can keep the fixing you’re using at the time in a safe place or hold them when you’re half way through a job.
Only thing that I could add with my 2 cents is, a strip of masking tape on the handles saying what's in each bin. That way you don't have to worry about the stack order. Also for when friends come to help.
Love the shop organization videos. So many good ideas! Makes me excited to finally build my own shop this year and get everything setup the way I want/like it! Can’t wait to see all the cool stuff soon enough!
@@MadDecentRacing Masonite for the workbench top to go over the MDF would be clutch as well. Super durable, comes in thin sheets, cheap, easy to get, and pairs great with MDF workbenches. If it gets beat up, just swap it out with a new topper.
I grabbed a 42" toolbox to put underneath the same style shelving you are using. It lives most of it's life under that shelf, but the rare occasion I need an extra work top or tools closer to my projects, you can roll it out.
Those bins are the best bang for the buck I found. Did something similar making 2x2 rolling work benches that have bin racks underneath made out of angle aluminum I had lying around
I think when you build or buy another storage space for yourself. Place it in such a way that you add a roof between the shop and storage to have an covered carport area.
You could potentially put bigger casters on that little cart because of how short it is under the rack, which could add stability and lessen the chance that it flips over when you roll it over a pebble.
So I’m at the “had the room for one more” part. What you can do is get some left overs or scraps from the wood and make a border for the top to kinda turn it into a tray, maybe and inch tall all the way around, so as your working or doing whatever stuff being used and or lots of bits needed sit there instead of in your hand or your pocket. Second give it handles, I see it rolls well but you may be seated or working at a weird angle where just trying. To grab it isn’t gonna work. The best ones you could make is two 8 in long pieces stuck together like the letter T put on all the blank sides with the base of the T attached to the box so even if you could only get two fingers on it you can still get it. Maybe even make two sets like that so you can have handles around the top and handles around the bottom, never know when yer gonna be seated and need something. Just my thoughts man. I know it’s a blank slate and will always get improved upon but I think those two you’d benefit the most front. Now I need to go build me one!
Something I have to do since im very limited on space is Build High. I have very long 12" wide Selves going along the top of my wall. High enough i can walk under. So i can store all my boxes & less used items up out of the way. I do have to keep a small step latter around. Something you could do on the less Filmed wall. Your Cart looks like somthing Adam Savage would build.
You should reach out to a 3d printer company and see if you can get something to make mounts for your drills, batteries, etc. Use the space under the shelves on every level. ALso, not sure on how tall the ceilings are but you could build rails that mount to ceiling and allow you to slide your totes in them. Same with kayaks.
For the lights I think you should change one outlet plug to a switch, if you dont need all 8 outlets. I wish the electric panel had a bit more room to fit the corner cabinet there . Not much can fit in the small space behind the man door, and all your fluids there would work. If you want help on how to setup your space, let me know what you have to work with a I can draft up some floor plans.
what up Dan! love the shop videos, if youre in the market for a new socket set, i use the tekton 1/4 3/8 1/2 full set with their rails super cost effective way nicer than HF and the rails are sick, i can hold my rails upside down and no sockets will fall off but the quick release is easy to use. best bang for your buck when it comes to sockets and ratchets. plus you get the nice organization.
Did you know that most refrigerators can have their hinges put on the opposite side? Or do you like your refrigerator door opening in an awkward way? 😅
Hey Dan! Brother you inspired me to build a wood table with all my cutting tools on it! It came out great I need to cut the legs a bit but hey first ever wood table turned out sweet! Now this video is god I’m scared what are u gonna have me doing next bro 😂😂😂
I’m not sure if you have a 3d printer, I have one if you don’t and would be willing to print you some tool holders to hold your cordless tools and batteries on the wall in that shelf area.
Very cool simple project, appreciate you using accessible tools as well as storage for us common folk

Refreshing video. Made for the average Joe with tools and a budget.
You definitely want to coat the mdf in some way, it’s like a sponge! Will soak up water from the air and anything wet set on it🤘🏻🤘🏻

fun lil project
Dont sleep on the Ryobi 18v tools Dan...Love small shop organizing and upgrades. I think its relatable to a lot of us
Not gonna lie it got the job done quite well.
I AM THE PROBLEM MAKER 😅 but hell yeah brother! Keep it going!
Reminds me of some Adam Savage tested shop infrastructure builds... Nice work Dan!

Your shop looks better and better keep going.
Thanks, will do!

20:44 You should paint it if you don’t want to build it again. MDF swells when exposed to moisture.

Yeah I'd paint it and then get some bees wax and add that to where they slide in and they'll glide right in and out

So jealous of your setup. My garage is maybe 1/3 the space
I’ve always found it useful to mount a 8’ led on each wall
this was rad. i def need to do this with my packout organizers. would be a good project. Great video DAN! good luck on the burb
I appreciate it! I’ll let you know how the burb goes.

Honestly these lil casters are super stout. For future stuff that requires more weight I want bigger casters.
Get crayon or candle wax on the runners to make them slide easier

Harbor Freight runs a nice rolling tool box with a wood top for $299 A LOT.

Been thinking doing one of the rolling hardware stands for my cart. Now im deff doing one.
It's nice to have. I don't like searching for bolts and such.
@ I’ve been using the bolt drawer method for years. Finally time to upgrade 😂

Great vid. What brand bibs are those?
Carhartt
Put a lip on the top of it so you can use it and parts won't roll off

Hey, just how big and tall is your garage? The set up with the metal racks as a workbench/storage looks great!
30x40 with 10' ceilings
Just dropping in to let you know that „Bin Hack!“ means „(I) am minced meat!“ in German.
Rando ? You selling s14 fuel tank? Help ya free up some space
My plan is still to keep the stock tank at the moment
If you don't paint any of the MDF, at least seal it. Speaking from experience with MDF shelves I had made in my garage
thanks dan, great content. good ideas. you need a kettle for cups of tea.
I do!
