      Thank you so much. It’s a lot of work but I love it. I have a ton of plans for videos after the New Years. If you ever have something you want me to cover, just let me know.

      @@NickRains Oh, I'm so happy about your reply! Thanks!
      So, about suggestions, I have a small one. I discovered today the WLED firmware and I'm looking at how to switch effects pressing only a button. For every press, it would switch for the next effect. While searching for it, I found your channel. I'm still looking to understand how I can implement it, but I'm very glad I found this! Congratulations!

      I was thinking of making a video about a similar topic. Basically you’ll need to solder a switch to one of the GPIO pins and the ground or your D1 mini or esp8266.

      @@NickRains I did, and I can config the button on the interface. By default, I can (short press to turn On-Off) or (long press to switch colors). The issue is, how can I use the long press, to cycle the effects? This is for my daughter and every day she wants a new effect. It was an easy way for her to select the effect without the mobile app. (how, by the way, I learned about the app with your video as well, nice tip) :)

    Question, what about when there is no basic integration like that? Or it just won't work. Would love to see some trouble shooting videos with these scenarios.

    Thanks for the great video. Any chance you would consider doing an updated version? Configuration is now "Settings" and Areas is now "Helpers".

    I love your videos, they are shorter and very detailed about all the setup process! I really like this series. I wish you would show how to setup automations with the home assistant. By the way I am curious in 2022 which platform would you recommend between google and alexa. We are a family of android user but I am really interested in automate the house (also I am not sure which between the two which is better in term of compatibility and price).

      Thank you 🙏 I’m currently moving, so there hasn’t been much free time for RUclips. But I’m really excited to get back into it.
      I have been trying to decide between google and Alexa for a while now. Personally, I think the display of the google nest hub and neat hub max are better than the Alexa Show devices, and more importantly, the google devices don’t show ads on your display. While on the Alexa devices, you can’t fully disable the ads.
      But the Alexa devices are capable of so much more. Better automations, more support for other devices, more home assistant options.
      If you can get over the occasional ad in your kitchen or bedroom and you really want to start creating complex automations that are more interactive, then the Alexa devices are the way to go. If you just want to turn things on with your voice or ask about the weather, then go with google.
      I know that wasn’t much help, so I’ll end with this. I have been using google for a very long time, but at my new house we will be using Alexa. I have a few (very complicated) ideas on how to stop seeing ads, but I still hate that I have to work so hard to not have my own device sell to me.

    Why do you add it under integrations rather than devices? Everywhere in the video, including the title, you refer to it as a device.

    I am new to Home Assistant.
    Soon I will be installing an LED under cabinet lighting kit. To help to turn them on and off, I will be using Wyze plugins and adding their app , as well as a manual off/on switch made by Aqara mini wireless switch and using their app.
    How difficult will it be to add these two network devices to Home Assistant and be able to control my under cabinet lighting thru the Home Assistant App???

    • @NickRains
      @NickRains  2 года назад

      Should be pretty easy. For the Aqara switch, if it’s a zigbee one, you’ll need a zigbee adapter.

    Hello, I have a question. I have portable thermostats Habitat, which send the signal to the wall-mounted ac unit. I don't want to buy their hubs because they are super expensive. The portable thermostat works with RF. Is there a way I can connect those to HA? Thank you

    Really wish I could figure out why I go through the kasa integration, login, and nothing there. I only have a power strip but thought that'd work out.

    Great video! I have question, I have tons of mqtt devices that I'm directing from an olther home automation suite, however, I would like to slowly transition into home assistant, but as soon as I add my mqtt devices, Home Assistant takes control and messes up my automations in the older home automation suite, Is there a way to make Home Assistant more of a spectator until I'll make an specific automation in Home Assistant?

    Hi. After you add the device, do you have to leave it also in the kasa app or do you delete it from the app and keep it on home assistant only?

    • @NickRains
      @NickRains  2 года назад +1

      Doing it with this method, you’ll have to keep them in the app. You can remove the app from your phone if you want though.

      @@NickRains - If I have to connect through Kasa then how is the setup local. Does it mean Kasa cloud always have access to my device? I thougt one of the advantage of home assistant was that the setup is local we really don't depend on coude services of the device manufacturers. I'm most likely, missing something here. Can you please help me understand. I want to be able to add devic without the cloud platform of the vendor like Yeelight, Smart Life, Tuya etc...
