      Healing in WoW is a high-stress job; Blizzard's idea of "challenge" is to throw out loads of unavoidable damage alongside avoidable mechanics - so unless the group is heavily overgeared for what you're running you have precious little time to anything BUT heal/shield. One lag spike can mean someone goes splat. Also you tend to be the first person who gets bitched out in chat when things go wrong.

    • @Pluveus

    Healing is actually very easy. The problem is when you are new you assume everything is your fault(and so does everyone else who doesn't heal). You can't heal stupid though. If everyone is doing the mechanics somewhat correctly then healing is super simple. On wall 2 walls or harder content it becomes about timing. For pulls judge how fast tanks health is dropping and heal appropriately. For harder shit watch the bosses cast bar and the main tanks life. The rest of the time you are just casting your one DPS spell and keeping up a dot

    • @CatOnACell
      @CatOnACell 2 года назад +10

      Granted as a new healer you can be ridiculously over powered. capable of surviving long enough to ressurect you entire light party in the thousand maws by running away and returning when the 5 separate mob groups they pulled went home. How did they pull 5 groups? Dps went 1 wa, and Tank went the other for a triple pull. And yes I was having a panic attack the entire time because herding cats is not in the healers job description. That is the tanks job by shining a nice laser pointer of distracted enemies at where everyone should hit.

    I started as a white mage, and to anyone coming from wow I would always recommend typing that.
    "Hey guys! I'm new to ffxiv and healing in this game, I usually play [insert mmo or other dungeon crawler] so if I mess up I do apologise."
    if they are decent humans they should be similar to respond with a variant of "no worries, just remember that you can use a dot here and there in order to help us kill the group quicker. then we all heal."
    I once had a dragoon pull ahead of me [a paladin at the time] and bring everything but the boss to me and expect me to tank it with a brand new sprout. the chat log went something like this
    "dude why didn't you tank?"
    "OH! that's why you ran ahead of the tank, pulled everything, then ran back to the tank like a kid who picked a fight he can't win and has to hide behind his big brother for help?"
    "yes, you pull wall to wall"
    "not with a brand new sprout who hasn't played any mmo, don't res him [insert healers character name], he needs to learn not to be an off tank."
    "F!$@ You!"
    "I mean, you looked like you enjoyed it with all those strong monsters." [I'm a sarcastic ass I know.]
    If the healer is new to FF, I often try and pull one group at a time [I now kinda main paladin and gunbreaker, haven't touched warrior since 32.] and I know some people hate when tanks do that, but that might be because the healer is new to the duty or I see that this is someone's first time doing it. As such, I will do it slow, let them talk about the dungeon, and I will not pull the boss until I have briefed them on the base mechanics, sorry Lancer, but I won't pull because you scream at me "Go! Go! I'm pulling if you don't pull! Go!" [wowcrendor was so funny back then.]
    anyway, rant over, I love his vids, and yeah I'm commenting on something a year old, but this is how I adapted to be a healer in ffxiv and how I, as a tank, help the new healers.

    • @MazeeKasurame
      @MazeeKasurame Год назад

      I can mostly speak for healer in this case, while I know it's not for everyone but slowly easing new healers into wall to wall pulls is still a good idea by taking a group, see how they do and add more mobs to the pile. Ofc. let them feel welcome and stop when they say you go to fast but still raise the stakes so they can build up the skill to learn which cooldowns to use to what sittuation.
      I can only imagine it's somewhat the same with new tanks, the more you pull the better you learn how to space your cooldowns especially tell new tanks that even arms length is a good cooldown to use as it slows auto attacks down (many forget that or didn't read the tool tips)
      overall, you right, 's better to be a nice person than to force people into your style of play but then again, it's a group game and wasting time in avoidable wipes is wasted time for everyone. Still not to say that wipes are okay and can happen especially as they are a part of the learning process.

    • @ArceusMinion
      @ArceusMinion Год назад +1

      @@MazeeKasurame Heyo,
      I can say that the scenario I threw in my comments, with the new healers, I should say that if they are used to the dungeon, like if someone is brand new in Satasha I would ask if they want the mapping achievement, which involves one side room outside of the usual path.
      Then again I have had mentors that forget they are healers, and we all have a laugh if we wipe, because it isn't a big dungeon.
      I should say that healers that are new and I notice we're wiping a bit more than normal, then I will slow down and find where the healer is comfortable. The dps aren't the main concern for me, as the tank, to protect.
      I know it's good to help healers into wall to wall pulls, which at higher levels I do try and do, especially if I don't see the "a player is new to this dungeon" flash on my screen, if I see it I always ask who it is, and if it's the dps, I'll go wall to wall, if it's the healer, and we're in a decent level dungeon, I will pull rooms at a time. Because I know if they have questions, always being in combat makes it hard to ask, even as a tank. And thankfully wipes aren't as bad as other games.
      I can definitely say, as someone who went from healing to tanking, the cooldowns being used in W2W pulls is barely any, I use rampart and reprisal more than anything, and save my larger ones for the boss.
      My main point with my original comment was to laugh at those dps who want to think they're still level 90 with 20k health, and run 3 rooms away only to die because they forgot to turn on unsynced party. I hated it in wow, and I hate it here, I am a tank for a reason, if we wipe it is mostly because I didn't manage the aggro, but if a dps runs ahead and Leeroy's, I will laugh the first time, but if it keeps happening in my daily challenges with different dps, my mood quickly turns to that sarcastic ass you saw in the re-enactment of the chat logs.
      For anyone wondering, I did ICC and Nax with people like that, and if we failed to the point of the healer raging, we had to wait a whole other week before we could attempt it again, and the amount of people thought they'd be the new leeroy recording them charging in and dying, were insufferable.
      it's just a pet peeve of mine, that brings out the inner raid leader in me just a little bit, I'm not screaming insults at them, but if I see an opportunity to laugh at them, I will take it. I don't like a leeroy, they staged the original video and did their best to make it sound genuine. And I don't think a healer likes a leeroy dps either. A tank leeroy is kinda okay because of their massive dps mitigation abilities that can keep them alive long enough for a large heal to come in.

    That's a good guide, but it contains a big mistake. Yes, healing is more about making the party survive, however not in a dungeon. At least not in lot of dungeons, expecially if the tank is a b*tch and he want to pull the entire corridor. You literally can't do dps in those cases, because in the interval between heal --> dps spell -->heals, with a group of mobs, the tank will receive too much damage to be mitigated with a single heal once in while. Expecially in certain dungeons, where there are simple mobs that do cleaves/pseudo-tank buster, that do tons of damages. For example in The Twinning, the "centaurs" after the first boss. Or in the Bardam's Mettle, the two group of beasts at the beginning of the dungeon. If an healer try to do things like applying dots/casting multiple dps spells during that first group in Bardam's Mettle, 90% of times is party wipe 'cause tank died.

    • @MarcoM512
      @MarcoM512 3 года назад

      You can if people know how to mitigate damage

    • @NulienTia
      @NulienTia 3 года назад

      The "centaurs" after the first boss in Twinning? If I'm thinking about what you're thinking about, the big aoes that they put out can be interrupted or stunned if players know to do that. As a BRD main, I always make a point of stopping one of those from going off, and the tank *should* know to interrupt the other one, though they usually don't in my experience (or a melee dps can stun it).
      Basically, it's not just up to the tank and the healer to make sure the healer doesn't have to constantly spam heals all the time during big pulls... the DPS have to play their part too! I see too many trash mechanics go off that DPS players can be doing something about.
