There IS NO SUCH THING AS HATE SPEECH. All speech is FREE SPEECH according to the 1st amendment. Putting limits on speech is called CENSORSHIP. People who forbid speech, Violate the 1st amendment because they don't like it.

She doesn't know what she believes. I think maybe in the past she had some surety, but after listening to more people discuss what the Right belief is, has her questioning herself. I hope she goes to more of these talks.
She is trying to say that most people basically have the same beliefs as to what is right and wrong, BUT those that call themselves liberal and conservative by the WORLDS standards go to the extreme and try to FORCE their beliefs on others, and thats really the only problem. She is saying that there needs to be a balance, and her husband went from one extreme to the other, while she remains properly balanced.
I THINK she's tring to "play" a head/word game, not accepting certain vocabulary that would compromise what she thinks she believes. I don't hear her speaking from the heart but rather from the head. I'm not even sure she knows what she believes but rather what she doesn't want to be identified with as believing. It was frustrating listening to her try to manipulate words. Seemed to have a high opinion of herself, a commanding officer ... "hold your applause"!
She is simply ignorantly uninformed. She is conservative and dangerously choosing policies that actually defy her own values. She should listen to her husband instead of shutting him off. I’m sure he’s tried. U dont convert to conservatism unless logic guided you.
