He's certainly a good buddy! He's now 21 years old and enjoying life in our sunroom where he can mooch food, build nests and interact with his family. He's somehow always been top bird and any dogs we have know their place with him. He took a bit longer to trust the crazy springer spaniel in the house, but Yoshi will even visit with him on the little gate that keeps the dog out of his room. :)
The only advice I can give is to just spend time with them and talk to them. Yoshi responds really well to a very expressive voice but now he's even talking for my fiance
What a beautiful parrot. I have one too, just a few days ago he got hit by a ceiling fan very badly. He is in pain, I hope he'll live long enough to learn as much as yours. Right now hes just sleeping alot, but hes eating, playing, sometimes talking, and moving around. Watching this video just remind me of him.
I used to have a Quaker named Popeye. He turned evil at about 5 years old and lived to 15. He was really talkative but also mimicked my mom too much. She swore a lot... They are such adorable birds!
That's so cute! I don't really have a specific trick to get him to speak clearly but i can say that talking to them a lot really helps. It also helps to have a very expressive voice (although embarrassing on youtube) because they seem to really respond to that. Yoshi's sister, on the other hand, doesn't talk as much as he does just because of her personality. She likes to play with toys while Yoshi likes to practice his words for fun.
WOW! Your little guy talks so clear! And uses your voice too! lol I have 2 talking quakers. Niether of them can say all that, or have that clear a human voice to them! VERY NICE!
Yoshi's the only bird in the house...except when we take care of his sister when my fiance's parents go away. They get along very well and Yoshi even asks "Go see Tiki?" when he hasn't seen her in a while
"You can tell the songs he likes because he will sing along to them...not the actual lyrics but parts of "Twinkle twinkle little star"." That's the cutest thing I've ever heard!
wow that is a kool bird, i just bought a 4 week old one from my local pet shop but i have to wait till its 8 weeks old to bring it home but im studying it alot i hope mine can talk as good as yours someday
Aw Yoshi is soooo cute! My sis has a green Quaker too. She can say chico (her name), hello, yes, and a few other things. The head bobbing is a natural thing for Quakers. Its why they are named Quakers, cuz it looks like they are shaking when they do it. But its still sooooooo cute!
I'm trying to make my Quaker talk all he can say is what and growls at you lol!! He can give high gives and shakes our finger and likes to kiss us and laugh!!
I don't know how many times Ive seen this little video of Yoshi! He is so cute and I love his little sweet voice!!! When did he start talking? My 10 wks old quaker, Monty, started saying his name a few days ago! Im so proud of him/her!!!! We spend a lot of time with him and talk and sing to him everyday. Quakers are such great little creatures! I love mine!!!

I think getting one young is better, but I got one roughly around that age and had some pretty good luck with teaching it to talk. He wasn't brilliant at it, but he had a selection of phrases he used in context quite well. They can be very rambunctious and need careful handling, but they're great birds.

My Quaker, Shamrock, also combined words to make new sentences. His speech was very clear for a Quaker. Whenever my ex would visit, Shammers would argue with him to get him to share his food. He would start with the subtle approach "What you eating?" "Is it chicken?" "Is it pizza?" "Is it good?" and would soon get frustrated when that tactic didn't work and yell at Mike to "FEED THE QUAKER!" That last sentence I know beyond a shadow of a doubt he never heard from any of us. Miss my baby.
Our Quaker is 10 months old and says "Poor Baby" when we put her to bed and she still wants to play.She says, What ya doin? , Come Here, kissing noises and she pushes her beak on you at the same time, she also makes whispering noises in your ear. If you are chewing gum she makes chewing noises. Very funny.
According to my Quaker book, it can take up to 2 years for them to feel confident enough to talk in front of you. My Quaker (1 year) practices when I am not in the room. If you're in the room, he is back to being a silent starer. Blink... blink... blink...
I am foying solo re: other humans,and my Quaker, teebitrd, was my best buddy, had a 35 word vocabulary, played with me like a 5 year old human, used words appropriately, was fully flighted and had the run of the house. I wish I had trained him somehow to use the toilet to doo doo because there was a lot to catch up with...but.. I had-fed teebird for the first month or so after I got him..that probably made a difference in our relationship. Children need raising. So do birds.Sometimes disapp-
