Great job guys. I have the same year 690 and did all of the same Rottweiler mods by myself. I am no mechanic but, but I followed along with the manufacturers video and managed to get the job done just fine.
Well done Kent and Mark. Worked well together. That was a big job/jobs! It still amazes me Manufacturers choose to put sub level parts on during production. 👍😁
Been thinking on getting this KTM for a few months but this vid unequivocally confirms my decision to be a No. Thirty Years a GP mechanic Forty Years a rider to UK championship standard I currently own a different brand which is a fantastic bike and I have no brand loyalty but the sheer complexity of maintaining this bike to a standard I would be happy with would frustrate the hell out of me. Great Vid Mark.
Unfortunately, all machines are heading in this direction. You would think that things like emergency and military and municipal vehicles would be exempt from the unreliability factor that the "green agenda" plagues machinery with but if you thought that, you'd be wrong.
We’ll call that a major design flaw on KTM’s part that you have to go through all that to put a high tensile bolt in. Just put one in during manufacture, it wouldn’t cost anymore.
The KTM 690 is a beast right off the factory floor, all the mods done were to make my life easier and to bulletproof the bike for long adventures. I don't think you will find a bike on the market today that does not need some mods to improve it for long adventures. And once again thanks so much to Mark and Bikers Bits for helping me install all the mods. Oh and Max the DR had the bike lift and he did not want to share :)
I have the same bike as well and yes, there awesome straight off the shelf.but for some reason I like yourself enjoy modifying it to my likings. All part of the fun 👍
Nice one Mark & Kent, That was a good watch guys!! It's all about having a go & learning as we do eh!! A few cool mods done there for sure. Awrabesht guys. 😉🏴👍🍻
G'day Mark & Kent, what an awesome bloody upgrade & all done in the biker bits garage by two non mechanical bloke 👍👌 hahahahahah, well done guy's, but it a great to learn all about your bike that you ride, Wow there was some grab that come of the K'TM
I had a 2012 690 and good ol KTM still haven't fixed the support bolts nor the air filter issues. But it's orange. Rottweiler makes great stuff if you ride 690, 790, or 890 and I think earlier ADV orange.
Really enjoyed watching this. But my God I always dread taking the Sarfari tank off my DRZ not anymore compared to the work you got to on the 690 to get to stuff
Great Job as always guys. The SAS delete kit is bypassing and removing the tank vent and charcoal canister purge valve to allow the tank to vent right to atmosphere.. One of the first mods I did to my BMW when I had it. The BMW had the added bonus that it would carry charcoal back to you fuel filter which was internal to the tank. German engineering at it's finest Good job guys. European bikes are far too convoluted because instead of redesigning the engines they engin-nerd half ass solutions to make the bikes meet ever stricter emission standards..
Wow , what a complicated bike , I'm sure they're good bikes but I'd hate to break down on my own. Stick to the DR650 , DRZ400e or the mighty Himalayan. Great work and great video.
Bloody hell, that's enough to put me off getting a KTM, my WR250R is much easier to work on. Didn't you hear me shouting check the hose on the air box LOL
Mark yer you've already taken it off with the air box mate coz your putting rottweiler air filter on which now goes from airfilter to air temp sensor mate 👋🤠👍
Wow, the DR650 might be an old tractor, but there is bugger all to getting it apart and back together. This thing is a nightmare! For the cost of ownership it should come as standard with an Austrian mechanic to do all this for you! Great video though, and great work...
OMG how different are ktms to standard Japanese bike ... seems pretty complex and a right mixture of fitting types (is there any real advantage of a torch screw over a hex screw?) - all the fuel over the back wheel just seems weird to me - I guess there must be some design advantage to the 0.1% of riders/racers that can take advantage if whatever that technical advantage is ? Wow these European bikes are just like European cars - (French and German in particular) they seem to be way too complex compared to the easy pragmatic relatable design approach of the Japanese.
Why i used Rally Raid lower tank mounts hex head bolts & there upper use allen bolts www.rally-raidproducts.co.uk/KTM-690-Enduro-R-SMC/performance-upgrades/ktm-2014-690-enduro-lower-tank-mount www.rally-raidproducts.co.uk/KTM-690-Enduro-R-SMC/performance-upgrades/ktm-690-subframe-tank-mounting-bolts

23:06 that bike spanner comes in handy when you tighten the top perrun motor bolts up grumpy .👋🤠👍
I was lost after you took the seat off but that's some awesome changes
Some really tricky stuff you guys did there . Well done . Good to see the guys coming into the Biker Bits garage to do work on their bikes .
Guaranteed that no Suzuki DR650 part will ever fit on a KTM 🤪

I’m in the market for a 690 Paul (or maybe AJP PR7!) - what have you got that’s so much easier to work on?

At 59.00 you actually say “ whoop, there it is “. Lol. A laughed until I cried.
Great video Mark
A lot of fiddling around but
hopefully worth it , can’t wait to see how it goes 👍
59:44 mark it whistle the Dixie tune if you don't put pressure washer on .
Nice bike Kent! Great work, we enjoyed it. This video makes us appreciate the simplicity of our DR's even more even more :)
You need a pair of green flat edge side cutters from Jaycar made in Japan great from cable ties.

What does Kent think of his Pivot Pegs?
Funny that you put a rag in the tank filler but left the throttle body open for the whole show. Hopefully nothing harmful fell in there. 👍
Yeah bit stupid on our part! :-)
It's impressive that there's so much in the aftermarket available for a bike made of unobtainium.
1:05:07 tube goes to under the original air filter box
That was the easiest Bark Buster Install I have ever seen. Looks great too.
Great vid guys! New subscriber here in the UK 👍👍

“We’re not mechanics”... and then proceed to do some pretty complex stuff, well done guys!
Damn they must charge an hours labour just to change the air filter. Nice video Mark good to see the garage getting some use by the crew.
Can anyone tell me what Barkbusters model are on Kent’s bike?
VPS with wind deflector.

Great video work,thks.
Did your engine light come on buddy mine did how about you
I'm getting a Stock 2020 KLX230 in a couple weeks, you wanna do a mods vid? I'm in Golden Square n you've meet my Brother Randall.
Thanks mate but unfortunately I don't have the time! 👍
@@BikerBits Thats ok just thought you might be looking for more content 👍
Says a lot for the DR 650, I've made the right decision buy getting a bush pig!!
Great looking bike, sounds the business as well.
WOW that was intense. Ya might not be proper bike tech’s, but at least ya figured out the “magic toolbox”......RUclips videos. 👍🏼 😎 🇺🇸 🌎
I've got a fist full of KTM screws that never went back in my 1290 after a tear down. Lol I should of taken photos 🤔
Great vid :)
Wow , lot of brain drain right there, that new air cleaner set up is magic , great video !
you have more patient than me, WOW

I think i'll stick to my DR....:)

Geez what a nightmare to pull apart. Too many bits and pieces with different bolts and sizes. Just because of that, I'll never buy or recommend a KTM.
Yeah ya screwed haha grab ya ankles boys were comin in dry
Fancy not even lubing
I thought this was going to a be a video about installing a sidecar "hack" on a KTM. So disappoint! lol
Why don’t you have a bike lift? You work on lots of bikes but don’t have a lift?
Takes up too much space! :-)
Rottweiler is 30 min from my house
Hah first good onya 🙂🙂
This is so far above my abilities ,it might as well be heart surgery.
Sssheesh
