By fiscal envelope ask māori for permission to govern our country, by way of our Monarchy, Spirituality and the mind - Kingitanga, Ratana and the Māori Council. When foreigners express in disgust that māori get too much money, that money was owed to them from the illegal confiscation of hapū lands, our traditional healing practices and language squashed. THIS IS WHY WE MĀORI FIGHT FOR THE LEGAL DOCUMENT, TE TIRITI, AS IT SIGNIFIES TO THE GOV THAT THEY CANNOT DO WHAT EVER THEY LIKE hence why they the Gov want to change it, to suit there narratives when ever they choose.
Tautoko! You have explained it clearly and truthfully! It is also arrogant of anyone to presume the english version is the correct version, that is just absurd! Māori understanding is clear and how disingenuous to twist the meaning of a Māori word to mean something else! Māori never ceded sovereignty! That is already established! We all know the chequered history of the NZ Company who were a major player in the theft and colonisation of Aotearoa NZ and the racist legislation being pushed by a racist NZ govt to further dispossess our people! We are not going away and never will. TOITU TE TIRITI!
Winston also uses Maori as a whipping boy to further his political aspiration and the Pakeha (European) love a part Maori putting the boot into the culture he's claims he belongs too.
Well Native Hawaiians are Maoli as well, same as us so it makes sense. The founding ancestors from Mataatua canoe came from Hawaii 22 generations ago, My fathers tribes Canoe, I still have Hawaiian in my DNA test, the Hawaiian is still in my DNA from 22 generations ago. All Eastern Polynesian Maori/Maohi/Maoli feel the same about colonisation.

I am a Pakeha (White) but I grew up with the Maori at Rotorua and was a good friend of the High Chief of Te Arawa's sister, Mihiterina Hohepa. This is one of the largest and most powerful of New Zealand Maori tribes. The truth is, they are dividing us all against each other, and this makes us all weaker. Mihi's brother, Hiko-o-te Rangi Hohepa, believed we needed to make one country, taking the best of Pakeha and the best of Maori culture, and that we could make a beautiful country together! He was such a beautiful man, he died many years ago and I think Mihi has also now passed on. Hiko's son or grandson now leads the tribe and they are both good men. If we are not careful, the Globalists will use this brewing conflict to take the whole country over, and that will end up being bad for all of us!
We are one country - well 2 islands which make up Aotearoa but we will NEVER be one people. Maori are forever having to fight for their rights. This new govt wants to take every essence of our being starting with wiping out our reo, our health system and so on. We will never cede our sovereignty to those who will try to do that.
@@iimanavatar61 You might not be able to see it, but the Globalists are against the Pakeha as well as the Maori. The one thing they absolutely DON'T WANT and FEAR is Maori and Pakeha standing together, against THEM!!!
... a case of misinterpretation of both languages. However, many treaties in this time had the same objective and that was to exploit land and resources. Plain and simple. Ka whawhai tonu mātau. Mō ake tonu atu!!!
I don't think that is necessarily correct. Misinterpreting something implies there was a misunderstanding. The Treaty of Waitangi writers understood exactly what they were doing when they wrote it. Also, the treaty was translated into Māori by a British missionary. As we know, the church and the crown did terrible things when they first settled in Aotearoa. I think everything was intentional and the only party left in the dark were Māori who mostly were made a lot of broken promises by Pakeha.
@cmt89497 There 100% was misunderstanding. The translation you mentioned had to be translated twice over and not just English to Maori. Hense why Te Tiriti and the Treaty are two different documents. They aren't one in the same. Treaty is used to uphold Te Tiriti. In short anyway
Thank you for your deep understanding of Maori culture. I only wish people of our country would have even half the empathy you have. Watch the No Maoris allowed documentary. It documents the worst racism I've seen in our country. Even though it doesn't appear to be that bad anymore, we are still viewed as "less than." And the Pakeha couple in this video are a prime example of white privilege.
The cultural injustices perpetrated during the colonial era were numerous. As a Māori woman in London, I am saddened by the ongoing impact and injustice of colonialism's burden in our homeland.

As a white Kiwi who no-longer lives in NZ, it breaks my heart to see what is going on there. The Maori culture is beautiful, respectful, honoring nature and the people with such dignity and grace. I would love all of NZ to be more like that. I think the British did bring some helpful things to NZ, but they should have respected the beauty of the culture that was already there and just agreed to help make their life easier. I'm sure the Maori would have welcomed them in if they had done it with no strings attached and no ill intentions. That's just how awesome they are. They are hospitable. They will feed you the best food, play the best music and share their culture gladly with those who truly appreciate and respect it. I hope NZ can step back and see how important this is going forward.

The crazy thing is that this prime minister wants to make the Treaty of Waitangi about all people but in truth it’s not because ‘all’ people weren’t even in NZ when it was signed. This treaty was between two people….the Māori and the crown (colonists) There were no ‘other’ people in sight so figure that out. This govt wants to change the treaty so that it includes all people Winston Peters saying that the treaty was for all people…no it wasn’t but what would he know? He’s brown on the outside and white on the inside the worst kind of Māori …one who has forgotten his roots and is now in politics not even fighting for Māori. What a travesty!! So there you go! we are like whanaunga! family! all those european colonizers stole away our cultures and our languages, but we are still going strong, and we can all reclaim our identities. I love Carribean culture. we feel your music especially your beats, the way you move in dance is so similar to our Maori dancing from our other polynesian maori cousins. You may wonder why Maori in Aotearoa don't dance Hula like our cousins in the pacific? All maori in Aotearoa originated from different islands in the pacific and we all danced Hula in our earliest times of our ancestry. But the earliest bones from 1350 AD they have found in New Zealand belong to the Marquesas islands People. The Marquesan culture was dominant during this period which spread amongst Aotearoa, and they are very warlike in their dance, Haka is the major Dance in the Marquesas Islands, and if you watch Marquesan Haka you'll understand it is very like Aotearoa Maori Haka, which is the dominant form of Dance in Aotearoa. Hula or Hura, became obsolete and instead our Hine (ladies) adopted Poi in Kapa Haka (What many arent aware of is that Poi was originally an ancient weapon) and they also used Patu (Club Weapons) in forms.

As a pākeha (non Māori) I believe te Tiriti (the Treaty) being honoured would be good for everyone, here. Te iwi Māori across the motu have continued to build upon our culture and create success for our people despite what has been thrown at us. There are also others such as Whina Cooper, Moana Jackson, Dr Mataamua.... the list goes on. those are only some that come to mind. We are seeing a generational shift, as rangatahi (youth) start to step into the roles our kaumatua and tupuna once carried out. A generation of staunch, unapologetic, proud Māori are here. We are ready to challenge. Our people have come so far, we can do it for ourselves now, and together, as a collective we are strong.

I'm part Maori. There are two sides to every story Mate. Some of the trouble we have in Aotearoa, New Zealand is back in the day many chiefs sold land to European settlers. Problem is, the land wasn't theirs, it belonged to the neighbouring tribe those chefs were at war with. Yes, there were greedy, powerful white settlers who stole land. But these people would steal from other white settlers too. A lot has been done to right the wrongs of our ancestors here. For example, only Maori can own commercial fishing quotas in NZ, worth billions of dollars, which is kept by a few and not shared with the people in most cases.
Thank you for that comment yes we have had reparations and continue to do .We cannot turn back history we all have to live together with the world we now have we also have to if we can look at what history has left us with.
@michaelhowell8412 And who did those Kiwi owned companies buy the quotas from? Maori, because as part of reparations, the Crown gave the quotas worth billions to Maori to work, sell or lease to only New Zealand citizens. They have the right to confiscate those quotas if the so wish.
Our people still live and breath our tipuna ancestors today and uphold our mana to the T. We fight for our rights and are the kaitiaki of our whenua❤and people

Back in 1840. 95% of the population was Maori in Aotearoa.. why should we cede sovereignty. The English txt is full of crap. Maori only signed the Maori version 'Te Tiriti' and the main language in 1840 was Maori. The English version came about later on which is not the correct treaty.
as a kiwi myself ,born in the 70s , i saw n florish and grow , it was a great place to live and grow up, after y2k things changed the influx of imagrants multiplied the population, goverment went to shit, by 2009 i left the country as it was being flushed down the toilet, i since have seen it decline even worse, i refuse to return home, when people ask me what n is like, i tell them it is a visually beautiful place, but the people are shit and never to trust anything anyone tells you while your there, its gone to thieves , ice addicts and the gangs, it is now a dangerous place now

Thank you so much brother for bringing awareness to others about what our tupuna went through and what we have all been facing here in Aotearoa. Many of us are trying to learn our reo as it was taken away from our parents and grandparents. The connection we have to our culture as Māori runs deep though. I'm moving to Australia soon for mahi (work) and the biggest gut renching part of it all for me is leaving my whānau (family) and my whenua (my land) the place where i belong at a time like this. I will be back though, i will always come home and we will rise up in unity as we always do. It aint right whats happening, but one thing my soul knows is that our culture will never die, no matter how hard they (the government) try to eradicate it x.
I am going to give you a POV from a Pakeha, bro, racism works both ways! I had Maori friends, good friends, when I was at school & they were forbidden to stay with me being a Pakeha family. Most of that went by the by as I grew older thank goodness, and I had a few Maori boyfriends over the years, & back then I NEVER referred them as that, they were just a boyfriend, no labels!! I am, however, sympathetic to the plight of The Treaty of Waitangi and I believe it will always be a contentious point of difference that will last for generations to come and will never be resolved.
Yeah this is what we'r facing at the moment..the maori back then didnt speak, read or understand english so the british tricked them inthe translation of the treaty...
Appreciate your love for Maori ehoa (friend). Love that your pronunciation of our reo (language) is getting so good. So... when are you coming for a visit?
Many years ago, our ancestors could see the potential for our Maori Culture, our Reo, traditions, dying so Total Immersion for Te Reo Maori was introduced from Kohanga Reo (kindy/pre-school) through to High School Graduation and beyond to University Bachelor of Maori Language, Arts. A lot of those who were the first to be given the opportunity for their schooling to be totally immersed in Te Reo Maori, are today Teacher's to various ages of our rangatahi (young ones) It has always been a struggle and now more than ever, It is imperative we fight to uphold Te Tiriti O Waitangi as did our Koro, and Kuia before us. Quite timely the world's reaction to not only to Stan Walker, Six60, History of the Haka, ultimately Maori people, our Maori culture, our Maori language, our identity. Our Hawaiian whanau, African American brothers and sisters, our Native American whanau, more close to home our many Aboriginal cuzzies and like many more cultures who are true to the land, the rivers, and the people.
Thank you for sharing this!!! - our government is trying to ban our language in schools, on street signs, in public, just as they did for our grandparents!!.. Our grandparents were beaten for speaking MĀORI, our wāhine were banned from breastfeeding their babies, our land was stolen from the colonisers, all this segregation as recent as the 50s and 60s..
Winston Peters is Māori! Go figure! We Pacific Islanders stand together with our Māori brothers and sisters! Kia Kaha!
Respect, brother, thank you for standing in unity with tangata whenua.👌🏼🫶🏼
Winston also uses Maori as a whipping boy to further his political aspiration and the Pakeha (European) love a part Maori putting the boot into the culture he's claims he belongs too.
Winston will do anything to get votes (like all politicians)
We aren’t brothers, and go back to your islands. Your treated better in our country then we are.
As a Maori with a Samoan grandson I appreciate your kind words of solidarity , blessings e hoa 🤎
This feels similar to the way Native Hawaiians think about being part of the U.S.
@TerraSt0rm Same as Te Arawa. Back then we were Ohomairangi. That's before we landed to Rarotonga and Tahiti
Brother it is with the deepest Arohanui /love and on behalf of all The Tangatawhenua people of the Land of Aotearoa thank you for your Love and support for our people.
God is a Covenant Keeper!!
He sees all and has the ultimate say in the end.
Kia Kaha and Mauri Ora.
I am so glad I found you. I have watched your videos for days now. As a Māori I love your content and the respect you give our culture.
... a case of misinterpretation of both languages. However, many treaties in this time had the same objective and that was to exploit land and resources. Plain and simple. Ka whawhai tonu mātau. Mō ake tonu atu!!!
✊🏽
I don't think that is necessarily correct. Misinterpreting something implies there was a misunderstanding. The Treaty of Waitangi writers understood exactly what they were doing when they wrote it. Also, the treaty was translated into Māori by a British missionary. As we know, the church and the crown did terrible things when they first settled in Aotearoa. I think everything was intentional and the only party left in the dark were Māori who mostly were made a lot of broken promises by Pakeha.
@@cmt89497 fully agree with this, have been looking at this since I was in my late 20s (I'm in my early 40s now)
Nō, it wasn't. It was very clearly changed and manipulated, and #4 the MOST important part, was deliberately left off of Te Tiriti o Waitangi..
Definitely watch ‘No Māori Allowed’ documentary. Toitū Te Toriti!!
The cultural injustices perpetrated during the colonial era were numerous. As a Māori woman in London, I am saddened by the ongoing impact and injustice of colonialism's burden in our homeland.
U live amongst them aue!!! 😊
Living here almost 20 years; most of us are members of Ngāti Rānana. We all miss home! 😊

Thank you so much for your support and watching our country in the good and bad it nice to have whanau(family) like you. Whom understand who we are.
One of my grandmother's far back is a consequence for a farmer just fencing off maori land & taking it. Chief took his oldest daughter and raised her as his own.
Birth family found her as an adult & didn't return to them. She told them maori treat her better and she is moari. Women couldn't vote or have a bank account or control their own body's back then
Pakaha woman were suppressed too.
yes I remember that story
@@Rotavegas1 I know it's kidnapping but can't help thinking how proud I am of the chief.
Funny thing is my iwi on the other side of family had 1 of the first adoption of pakaha by a Maori family.
Child was born out if wedlock in a very wealthy family so had to be hidden.
So legal adoption & a kidnapping. 🤣 ironic
You should watch the NZ war series, it goes deeper into the mistreatment, abuse of maori and how land was confiscared
Man, you now know more about the treaty of waitangi than many New Zealanders.
You’re right it is insane and so unbelievably this is happening in Aotearoa.
Thank you for the most important reaction you have done so far.❤
I feel like that too ♥️ Thank you for saying that.
Bless you man. Thank you for your wisdom. Thank you for your aroma for Māori. Thank you
That is Tame Iti brother, one of the great leaders in our struggle.
You remember him from"Te reo maori ki te ao"
He has a truly amazing story of his own, you might wanna check out his "Ted talk"
A great man. Chur bruddah!
The crazy thing is that this prime minister wants to make the Treaty of Waitangi about all people but in truth it’s not because ‘all’ people weren’t even in NZ when it was signed. This treaty was between two people….the Māori and the crown (colonists)
There were no ‘other’ people in sight so figure that out.
History has proven that it only takes one man in power to divide a country …fact
Thank you for spreading awairness of our people. The next few years with this new government will be a hard fight to overcome they want to undo the little that has been achieved to extinct our culture, language and our belonging as the native people of new Zealand. Thank you
All they need to do is : Honour Te Tiriti o Waitangi and give our land bank - deceitful ones!!!
Hearty strong culture and language. Maori culture is stronger than ever in a more evolved way.
You said it right.. all these treaties mean nothing!
Missionaries weren't protecting maori. They benefited from the colonization. They were apart of it.
Convert
Gain trust
Influence their decisions.
Also started the division between maori.
Divide & conquer. Force & Conquer was too hard 😂
Its still used today
If the crown couldn't take the land, they wrote law that gave them the legal right to take. One was if Māori couldn't afford tax from owning a dog their land was taken to pay off the tax. You should watch the waikato land war documentary. The presenter is mahinarangi forbes. I think that's her last name. But there are 3. Also, look up parehaka and see what happened to those people living in peace.
Def look up Parihaka
In the lower South Island in the 50s and 60s, both English and Scottish workers for the paper mill and hydro damns were given blocks of land when they came over for these new jobs.. Absolutely disgusting..
Yes thats Stans Uncle that you saw, and my Uncle as well, grand uncle actually, His name is Tame Iti, hes a major indigenous activist from our Tuhoe Iwi (Tribe) ruclips.net/video/qeK3SkxrZRI/видео.html . Hey question! didnt the British colonise the carribean as well? I think they had sugar plantations there didnt they?
PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN WAS THE BRITTISH ,BUT THE SPANISH CATHOLIC PRIEST WAS STEALING GOLD AND RESOURCES FROM THE NATIVES😊 , IT WAS BRITTISH ROYALS AND SPANISH BLACK BEARD STEALING GOLD FROM THE SPANISH PRIEST S ,
if in doubt with regard to the interpretation of Treaties with Indigenous peoples, the 'Native' language text prevails! Its in the UN declaration of Indigenous Rights which NZ has signed to
Aloha from New Zealand ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Hi white old lady here our treaty is our founding document we will never not respect it. Its meaning has been used by some to roit systems however we will never not respect everything it stands for.
Exactly, thank you ❤
What Maori need to do is take back their power by looking after their health in all areas as well.
Māori who were a majority back in the day ...would not have ceded sovereignty to a minority race who did not speak or understand Te Reo māori....our ancestors were Warriors...

As a pākeha (non Māori) I believe te Tiriti (the Treaty) being honoured would be good for everyone, here. The younger generation views things very differently unlike those idiots that are currently running our country. I have a lot of hope. Let us not forget about the Aborigines in Australian and Native Americans who also have their struggles for identity and have been subjected to genocide. Those immigrants from The Netherlands have very little understanding and should not be taken seriously. Their children will probably see things differently. Get a copy of Michael Hill’s “History of New Zealand” and read it.
Rangatiratanga was used in the translation for Kingdom in the lords prayer. If they had used Rangatiratanga Māori chiefs would not have signed. No word for Sovereignty but kingship was available. My ancestors exercised authority over our lands up until ww1. Using laws they dismantled the power of our chiefs

Stan is an artist, no doubting that he is important in the revolution of our people and the continuance of the revitalisation of our language. However, he is one of many. Te iwi Māori across the motu have continued to build upon our culture and create success for our people despite what has been thrown at us. Tame Iti is a pou, our kaumatua, a rangatira in many ways, who led the movement to make our language official.
Nga mihi nui... thankyou so much .
For your korero (talk) about our culture and the current attack by the three headed taniwha (monster) at the moment.
Atlas network has alot to do with it ..our tiriti...(Treaty) And our guardianship of our land ..stands in their way of their lust to plunder our land of its resources.

People don't belong to a land lol. We are only caretakers, and only for a while.. until we run out of resources, overpopulate, the climate changes, war/danger, curiosity, etc then we move on to 'greener' pastures'. That's what humans do and have done and why Maori got to NZ in the first place.

The crown only gave 3 cents in the dollar to successful claimants via the Waitangi Tribunal. Maori had to employ lawyers and the claims process often took years with origional claimants often passing before their claims were settled
"The pen is mighter than the sword" Kawanatanga was a word made up by the missionaries who first settled here

Athough you are afar, the feeling of you beside is closely felt..KIA ORA BRO..
You're wrong about only Māori owning commercial fishing quotas! Only New Zealanders or New Zealand owned companies can own fishing quotas
You're full of sht, wanna discuss the facts of what happened in tne Taranaki seeing you bought it up? Parehaka, we can debate all that stuff.....
@michaelhowell8412 And who did those Kiwi owned companies buy the quotas from? Maori, because as part of reparations, the Crown gave the quotas worth billions to Maori to work, sell or lease to only New Zealand citizens. They have the right to confiscate those quotas if the so wish.
Who got reperation? Beware of blanket statements. It's a fool errand.
Our people still live and breath our tipuna ancestors today and uphold our mana to the T. We fight for our rights and are the kaitiaki of our whenua❤and people

That is why Stan sings his songs for us his people not to let this happen anymore how can we let it change as for Winston Peter's Maori decent but is married to a pakeha and gets a good pay in parliament that's why he don't care about any of our people tama iti has always stood up for our rights cheers to tama iti we need more Stan's and tama iti the treaty was only between the queen of England not the government here in aotearoa and Hobson was just an negotiator for the queen but the government here in aotearoa think they have the right to govern us Maori and change history NO WAY Tangata whenua for ever..❤

Bastion point was actually a rock sticking out of the water until white man blew it up to build road aro7nd the cliff , then they named that cliff bastion point ,
Back in 1840. 95% of the population was Maori in Aotearoa.. why should we cede sovereignty. The English txt is full of crap. Maori only signed the Maori version 'Te Tiriti' and the main language in 1840 was Maori. The English version came about later on which is not the correct treaty.
Thank you so much I appreciate you for sharing this ❤

Bro, thank you for being an ally for us from across the seas. Appreciate you. Aku mihi.
as a kiwi myself ,born in the 70s , i saw n florish and grow , it was a great place to live and grow up, after y2k things changed the influx of imagrants multiplied the population, goverment went to shit, by 2009 i left the country as it was being flushed down the toilet, i since have seen it decline even worse, i refuse to return home, when people ask me what n is like, i tell them it is a visually beautiful place, but the people are shit and never to trust anything anyone tells you while your there, its gone to thieves , ice addicts and the gangs, it is now a dangerous place now
You left out the racially institutionalised system in place against Māori there was no call for tatou Kotahi one people , no equality , all these and many more , but today the white Māori hater are calling Māori privileged or the elite , the 79s was when uncle Tame Iti was pressing mana motuhake
The PEAK of racism against MĀORI was 1960-1980, so my dude you're unaware, or privileged to have not been around it.. Watch "state of a nation" regarding the socioeconomic status of NZ in the 80s and 90s, it touches on the 70s.. The country was whitewashed then, and it's only getting worse now!!!.. Māori have had ENOUGH!!.. We will not see our future generation suffer like out grandparents.

Thats a good question you raised.
Why do we have to have something else just to walk side by side. 👌👏👏🔥
Absolutely love your perfect pronunciation of our language
We cannot let it happen again!! ❤🤍🖤✊🏼 MĀORI PROUD!!!
