Bali isn't the same place I visited 17 yrs ago. When I travelled to Indonesia in January this year, the smog in Jakarta and the shabby state of public beaches in Bali are what I remember the most of that visit.
I was there.."95 and then its pollution was already horrible. So sad, because the people are really the nicest I've ever met. Its the corruption of the officials that put the most beautyfull country in a dumping place.
Do you eat us food that has palm oil?? then you are contributing to the deforestation of Borneo or Indonesia as tropical forest is replaced with palm plants.
Having a forest surrounding your city is a must in flood risk areas. Not to mention trees inside the city are beneficial as well. As well as drones built to disperse clouds would also help tremendously. However we don't know the long term effects cloud seeding has on the environment. Let's be honest that's how we got here in the first place so no stopping humans from doing what they want/need to do.
Corruption is an enormous problem when it comes to Indonesia. Many other problems stem from it, such as pollution. The government simply doesn't have the resources to deal with the waste they're producing because they're taking the money for themselves. The fact that Indonesia imports waste from all over the world just goes to show what the government will do for a quick buck. My mum left to go to the UK to flee this corruption, she tells me much of what happens
Refreshing to see a comment highlighting the people who are doing the right thing. We have the means and knowledge to turn things around. We just need to get to it.
The problem is not only in bali. You can see almost all parts in Indonesia have similar problem. Hence, their Citarum river is the most polluted in the world, surpassing India. Hundreds of slums and unbearable scene of trash and waste. It's their culture, unfortunately. It's sad news to our Singapore too.
Between india and indonesia which has a higher population density? Edit: so i found out India has nearly 3 times higher population density. That's quite a feat honestly. To have more pollution will 3 times lesser population density.
This will is an endless exercise in futility. Governments should shut off the major oil companies and the conglomerate multinational companies that produce these plastic packaging.😢
I know exactly how my friends from Indonesia would react when watching this... They'd just shrug their shoulders non-chalantly and go "It's Indonesia, bro." It's not that they don't care about the issue, most of the time they do, but it's more like they have no hope that anything will ever get done or anything will ever get better so they just go on with their lives. And, sadly, it seems to be true. The strange thing with Indonesia is that, often enough, the laws are there but there never seems to be anyone to enforce them. So it just ends up with people doing whatever they want to do with no insight into how it will affect others in the future. And that's a huge shame because the country has some of the most beautiful places in the world, some of the most interesting and fascinating creatures and cultures. And, frankly, it should be a regional superpower, if not a contender for a global super power.
You do realise that Africa is an entire continent of more than a billion people, right? I highly doubt that even one country there can enforce the minimum of environmental laws let alone the 54 countries that make up the place... That being said, I agree with the sentiment that the entire continent desperately needs some environmental laws.
@@Fledermausmann The entire continent? Many parts of Africa don't even have electricity, nevermind vehicles. When it comes to admissions America is the second biggest polluter in the world.
I believe if Indonesia can impose a ban on Apple Products. It can impose a heavy fine and take action to safe her golden egg laying goose (international tourism) too.
With a closed stove that only transmits the heat and has a chimney, like coal stoves, plastics can be kept out of the food if they can not switch to coconut husk burning. To reduce my trash, I shred cardboard and use it in a raised bed to grow flowers. The cleaner cardboard and paper is used in my worm farm. These folks aren't catching rain water and collecting it down into a cystern that would go through the same filtration that the ground water goes through.
Thank you very much for exposing the indigenous people who are unseen in common media here because they are only focusing on political drama government and celebrities. as research, indigenous communities indeed protect 80%++ biodiversity. but, they are marginalized.
When the Dutch governed Indonesia long ago, the area around Bali, at least, was clean and well taken care of. It's a shame to see the place goes to shamble.

Indonesia government should train people to do a job that can go through every container. Then buy trucks that go through the beaches that picks up the trash. Get boats that are equipped to glide over the ocean with a long bag to gather the trash that floats on top. It cost money that the government ruler should give up their life style in order to put that money for a better future for the country. A few years like that can help the children of the future. 30:09 here you have a greedy government. These people should be giving land and house. Not having to buy it. Governments takeaway a lot. So sad this is happening. The United States is getting this way now too.

This is true probably nearly everywhere. Take a look at my case--my country--the Philippines. My country has such a beauty. But undisciplined people, Filipinos & foreigners in the country, have thrashed it & are continuously thrashing it until the beauty it has is lost.
Bolivia 's situation related to plastic waste is similar. Watching this documentary is a mirror of bolivia. Here there is an awful culture to one-use plastic things, related to food, drinks, holydays, parardes, etc. It is a nefast place. and more and more the small towns are getting polluted. and the USE of so many Motorcycles is disgusting..... imagine the NOISE pollution. Excellent work DW and sad to see what humans can do. Sad to see what we humans are doing to the earth.
Not all humans, politicians and corporates. Most people would do the right thing if they had any say in life.
Globalisation & consumerism plus large scale global corporations are destroying this once beautiful, untouched planet.
All is finite.
