I like him too, he looks like a good man.
The problem i have is with his vision of russia’s future. He waits for a follower of putin’s like he is to be delivered from another planet by aliens. The russian people in his vision have no agency of that whatsoever. In my opinion, until the russians will exit that state of deep unpolitisation in which they currently are, no good thing will ever come to russia.
It will be a long and probably very painful process, but i do not believe there is another way

He produced soft Russian propaganda up until February 2022. After having his 'Russia can do no wrong - it's just misunderstood' bubble burst, he will still deny Russia's responsibility for Crimea and the war in Donbas, the invasion of Georgia, Chechnya, Georgia again, and Moldova...
If you ask him, he will say that WWII started in 1941. He denies the Soviet Union being Germany's ally and invading Poland together in 1939. He has heard about the Soviet Union invading Finland but doesn't understand the context (The Molotov-Ribbentrop Pact).
In other words, he's still Russian.

There was no live stream from you. The next day a big stone dropped from my heart - you were in Uzbekistan. I do believe you got out just before the window closed. I still feel relieved. That was such an interesting conversation; thank you for inviting us to hear it. I feel such empathy for K about his feelings towards Russia. I had the same mix of disappointment in and anger against my home country. To answer one of his questions, why were so many compatriots brain- washed but not him? In addition to the answers you two came up with, I found these to explain my case: my parents raised me to stand up & speak out; I spent 2 years post-varsity studying in UK & France, as well as living for another two in countries neighbouring mine that had different systems; when I returned to my home country, which I had loved so much, I tended to look sideways at it, not entirely trusting it to be as beloved as before. Last two factors: I make decisions much more according to how I think than how I feel, so instead of just falling back into being a loving, loyal daughter, I considered, weighed up the different factors; I was put into a position where I was brought face to face with the discrepancies, the moral choices before me were not anything I had sought out. And then I was scared, scared I would cost my husband his job (in a very pleasant & high quality bubble), & scared I'd be picked up by the security police & imprisoned. It was all making me sick. Sooooo...we left.

I’ve followed Konstantin over the past 3 or 4 years now, I too like him and appreciate his opinions.
I would like an interviewer (maybe you Pyotr) to ask him outright how he would like this Russian war against Ukraine to end, whether he supports the “west” aiding Ukraine in an attempt to win against the aggressor, whether NATO should become involved, whether some sort of Ukrainian capitulation agreement should be reached, whether Russian “liberated” territory should be given up, whether Ukraine should insist on reclaiming Crimea, so, so many questions I haven’t heard anyone ask him.
God bless you both, and thank you for your insights.
Personally, I’ve thought from the beginning (let’s say from 2014) that the “western” coalition (not necessarily NATO but whatever) should have stepped in hard and put an end to Putin’s erosion of eastern Ukraine.
Our lack of courage and action has led Putin to think that we don’t care anymore, and the “western aid” in sanctions and military support of Ukraine (little and late though it’s been) has come as a shock to Putin.
I want Ukraine to win their freedom or at the least a just and fair settlement (but that is sadly a fairytale)
    Slavă Ukraine 🇺🇦

I am British, born of a Czech father. I am approach 70 years old. I do not recall there ever being a time when Russia was not a problem. Where "problem" is actual existential threat. You know, Cold War, nuclear threat, Cuban crisis, tanks rolling into Prague in 1968, people being killed trying to escape the iron curtain all the way through to annexing Crimea and Donbas and now the full out war in Europe.
My Czech father was born in 1914 and would tell much the same about Russia. He had to send his new British wife back to England after WWII and escape hiding in a good train when Russia moved in shortly after the war.
I sometimes wonder when was that happen time when Russia was aligning with the west, building a democracy, space stations and all that. It was such a short time I seem to have missed it in my busy life.
It all very sad. I too have always thought it would be great if Russia and the west got on and worked together. Great for Russia, great for the world-. And why not, Moskovites are ethnically and culturally similar, they are Christians and so on,. Which over decades always led me to the same thought ""what the hell is wrong with Russia and Russians that makes them so broken and bad".

There was a short time just before the wall fell or after during a period of "glasnost" and "perestroika" where there was enough camaderie and professionalism in the soviet air force that they allowed some British Airmen to visit their country. The story is told on the BBC but after that the veil of suspicion and imperialism descended.

@@MichaelS-t8k Interesting. Sounds like those stories of British and German troops ceasing fire and coming out of their trenches to play football on Christmas Day. Sweet but short.

You may not know about this. While serving in Germany in 1968 due to the Russian moving into Prague. Our forces thought that it was an invasion towards the west. We actually moved the nuclear missiles to their war time location, that's just how seriously we took the threat. As luck would have it nothing happened. We were escorts for the missiles and as a 18 year old frightened the life out of me.

I agree with Konstine. Each of us been to make a decision to be aware of what is really happening around us, to pay attention to to what is going on and how it is affecting us and how we are affecting it.
We can avoid the society around us, form a bubble around us and avoid everything that makes us uncomfortable.
The alternative is to be aware of our surroundings and be responsible citizens and try to improve the world around us.
I suppose there is a third alternative where a person makes the choice to be aware, but does so to find advantages for ourselves, rather than the people around them.
Only one person alone can make one’s decision to choose how one will live life, that, of course, is the individual.

A very interesting talk between two very informed people. Thanks for bring up so much that isn't talked about anywhere else. Russia is much more than just an enemy they are a country of conflict and a history of many different leaders who were so destructive to the Russian people.. Somehow this must be overcome if Russia is to every be a country that learn that war isn't the best policy and conquest only leads to never ending suffering.
