I don't know if it's the adventure of discovery or your unbridled happiness, but I adore your channel. It leaves me smiling every time! Glad you're back! Stay safe
So crazy that I went to a Catholic mass a few days ago in Memphis, Tennessee and to come home and decompress I watched you guys today. Rosary beads are an awesome find! Yooohoo! Glad you're back!
I am so glad your finger is doing better and you are back magnet fishing that you love to do thank you for sharing your beautiful post of different places you go
if you find some old photos of that area look for the old bridges that arent there in the photos and then go magnet fishing those spots, i found a number of things in the france where old bridges used to be and were destroyed or removed...
I can't say Thank you enough for showing these beautiful places that many of us may never see in person. Very cool Would like to see Nikki's beautiful face sometimes.
Leigh, it's great to see that you are back and it's always great to see Dennis. I hope that your magnet fishing finger is working at 100% now. I enjoyed watching your videos while I was recovering at home. Keep the videos coming. Thanks...
The "shoe" or "bucket" you talked about, being used to collect the money from the boats, may very well have been a wooden shoe ("klomp" in Dutch). I grew up near a pull-up bridge, and with other boys I looked at the bridge-man swinging his wooden shoe from a rope on a stick towards the skipper, who got a quick hold of the klomp, dropped the coins in it, and let go of it. And this well-timed choreography happened while the boat was going through the bridge.
@@BondiTreasureHunter - Indeed, sometimes coins must have slipped. In the city of Haarlem, with 6 bridges to cross, each bridge-man 'angled' for coins at each passage of a boat. Both the skipper and the bridge-man were very skilled in their handling of the coins and the klomp. Loosing it would be an embarrassment, besides the loss of money. In later years the payment system was changed to only the outer bridges collecting passage for all the bridges in one go. That took away the small-scale-ness of it all. It did not take long after (around early 1970s) to change it altogether to a wall-based and subscription system for the commercial boats, and with that the klompen were history.
I want to add that the commercial boats were low-lying open boots that transported sand or gravel or barrels, etc. The skipper lived on board with his wife and children. There was a whole living space at the back, where also the steering cabin is. There were (and still are) special schools for the children. Because the boats were in motion the skipper and his wife would handle many tasks as equals. Steering on the rivers and canals, steering through bridges and handling the coins and klomp. If one needed to go to the toilet the other would steer. These boats are still to be seen, both in operation and as houseboats.
Last addition: The trick to drop the coins into the klomp was to walk to the front of the boat on the "gangboorden" (the walkways along both sides of the boat). There you would grab the klomp when it was swung your way, and while walking backwards you'd drop the coins into it. That way you were actually stationary during the dropping of the coins. It was't very risky or dangerous. Still , over the years many must have dropped so I wish you much success.
A very nice characteristic wooden drawbridge (1649) over the Bullewijk. In Ouderkerk aan de Amstel connects with polder "De Ronde Hoep", a national monument.
Welcome back Leigh! I missed that smile you get just as the magnet leaves your hand lol! It’s great to see my guys together doing something that your both great at! Man,you was really pulling out the nickels huh? Dennis got a old knife, wonder how old it really is? What else did you get? Anyway,I’m tickled that your finger is well now just try real hard not to get hurt again lol. I think it would be good to go back to that area again. I just feel like there’s something good still waiting down under the water. Gotta go for now and can’t wait until the next video! Stay safe love you 🤟 YEE 🤟
Hey Jenn, I'm a little slow on the comments hey! I've been so busy treasure hunting again so more adventures coming your way! It was soo good to be back at it with Dennis finding some treasures😃🤙🤙🤙
Great to see you back magnet fishing! I hope your finger is healing well, and Dennis's hand is recovering well. Again, more lovely scenery; thank you! I watch videos from another magnet fisher (The FIsher) and whenever he catches a fishing lure, he says, "Cash Money!"
For several years dinner knives had round tips, one of the early Popes did not like watching people pick their teeth at the dinner table with their knife, So he decreed that knives used at the dinner table have round tip, I don’t know how long that lasted, but the knife Dennis found may have been during that era.
I love watching the videos! you have such positive energy and you can turn someone's bad day into a great one ( not that I had a bad day) and finding anything is always cool to watch. but when I leave the video I always have a smile on my face :)

I think so too ;)
Hi Leigh, where does the bridge man sit while waiting for the boats? Great to have you back. Cheers Rosemary Perth Western Australia (70 yrs)
The bridge man travels from bridge to bridge, he has more than one to open.
Hi Rosemary! He's a busy bridge keeper riding from bridge to bridge on his scooter all day long
In the village I'm from they used a klomp (wooden shoe) on a rope to collect the money. The actually still do :)
Oh my gosh I’ve never seen a draw bridge that’s done by hand, so cool
Good job guys
Glad the finger is better. have missed your magnet fishing.
