You're hearing the re-recorded 2009 version of the song which has been recorded in a homestudio mostly, using Toontrack samples of EZ-Drummer. Of course, the original 1988 recording has no such samples and was done in a professional studio environment. I'm not insulting anyone, but please do stop insulting my keen ear for music in general as I am a schooled musician. If you don't hear the difference between the two recordings, that's not my fault. I know EZ-Drummer when I hear it, I use it.
Great song, great singer, but I don’t believe this is actually ‘live’ -I think they have recorded this version in the studio for the purpose of miming it on the show, the sound is too consistent to be live on a set like that (I would love to be wrong and for that to have been genuinely live) but that’s my assessment otherwise! 🤣
