  • #RamGopalVarma in a ‪@Connectcine‬ exclusive with #FaridoonShahryar talks at length about his review of #SandeepVangaReddy 's #Animal. He talks about the consistency in #RanbirKapoor's performance and why he considers it best in Indian cinema history ever. He talks about the criticism of the film promoting gun culture, misogyny and violence. He talks about why he considers Sandeep to be extremely brave and why he thinks Sandeep is an Expressionist artiste. Mr Varma also talks about how this film has jolted him out of his slumber. Must watch!

    Love how despite being a legendary director and storyteller in the past, he’s still so positive and genuine in his praise for new age directors like Sandeep. I think the turning point for me in the movie was when he gets out of the car in a fast paced manner with a cigarette 🚬 in his mouth, and the beard… the low angle shot .. that instant transformational shift from a repressed animal to an outer ferocious evil creature implied to me that he has arrived to avenge. That shot alone is pure cinematic brilliance. Hats off Sandeep Vanga.

      it is one of a kind cinema in a long time. Banga is very courageous and didn’t care for anyone and brought soft porn into the theater. Earlier porn had to be watched secretly at home. Now you can watch porn together with your family. And that was achieved by Banga. Banga has brought brilliant violence in films. He has copied all best scenes from different directors and boldly stitched it together that no one has ever done before. Earlier people would secretly watch isis beheading videos online on their phones before it was taken down, but now you can come to theater with friends and cheer at beheadings. Banga has done a phenomenal job. It is truly path breaking. I hope he makes more path breaking soft porn for our Indian audience.

    I don't think the shoe-licking scene breaks character consistency. For one, Ranbir's character has no tolerance for anything against his family, he would cause mass murder let alone make her lick his shoes, if anything he let her go too easily. It was also put in the story to show that the relationship meant NOTHING to Ranbir's character and he had no feelings whatsoever for her and so the only reason he broke his promise was to protect his family and not some emotion

    Animal is a masterpiece and a jam of performance by Ranbir kapoor, I believe it’s actually not beyond time, I agree with RGV that nobody has the guts to portray that kind of character in 100 years.

    • @boddulokesh1
      @boddulokesh1 7 месяцев назад

      My question is why he didn't order his cousins to kill her as she came to trap him. As a sole protector of his family he should kill her as per his character but he didn't!! He killed 300 people all over the movie but not her, why? This is to show he respects women? But then in not any other scene that is justified!!

    RGV clarified a few things I did not understand or skimmed over in his google docs review, the communicator/expressionist typology of directors for example. He also makes an interesting observation that Animal is a biopic - but a biopic of a fictional character, not a real-life celebrity/personality. That explains the looser story structure and "non-functional" scenes. Good stuff.
    I wish Faridoon had pushed back a little on RGV's claim that this is the film that shook him up the most in recent times because he said very similar things about The Kashmir Files (structurally strange, gamechanger, etc.) couple of years back.

    RGV Sir = simple & ease. Now everyone can understand not only about art of storytelling but also about life. We ourselves complicate things, let's not do that. But a small correction this is not the first indian film to do this, people have to watch movies from Director/Actor Upendra Sir, from kannada films. He did this long back & has shown storytellers & people that, 'Cinema is art of storytelling' & nothing else matters as long as people connect with it whether they like it or not.
    Shared something which i learnt.

    One of the best interviews of RGV, mind blowing analysis of the movie, especially when he says the movie was literally over in the first half(interval), when Ranbir killed all the attackers of his father, but still Sandeep reddy vanga managed to engage the audience in the second half with the scenes which are not much connected with the first half and at almost at the end, revealing the Bobby deol character, it proved that the length doesn't matter for the impact of a role. Overall as RGV said sandeep reddy vanga created his own template of making remarkable movies.
