      I know exactly what you are talking about. Lived in Jhb for 55 years and want to weep when I see what has happened to S.A. Especially all the looting, murder and robbery when that Zuma thing was sent to prison. Music certainly helps to dull the pain. Groetenis van Engeland and bly gesond and veilig.

    This really does help to ease the pain of losing a life partner. I lost mine 3 1/2 years ago and THIS is my 'go to' for a chance to reflect on and appreciate what I had while listening to Gunoud's incomparable music! BRAVI and thank you!

      Are you here in America? Would love to talk with you somehow.

    • @Mar--Mar
      @Mar--Mar Год назад +1

      I wasn't aware that this music was used in Nosferatu since that is a silent film. Perhaps you are talking about a modern version?
      However that might be, to associate this music - which speaks of the holiness of God, and was written to glorify Him, and to honour Saint Cecilia who was a martyr for the love of God - with the sordid, morbid and depraved story of Nosferatu is a perversion and a travesty. Whoever did that had a twisted mind. The beauty and purity of sanctity has absolutely nothing to do with what is ghoulish and grotesque. Those are the attributes of Satan.

    • @stefanod4751
      @stefanod4751 Год назад +4

      @@Mar--Mar yes its used in herzog's nosferatu,1979. I thank you for these information about this piece, i didnt search enough. Though i pretty much like the irony, its perfectly used. Still, in a way you could say herzog has a twisted mind, but he's also one of the greatest filmakers of all time, so dont mind and go watch this masterpiece.

    #rehearsal #sanctus #gounod
    So beautiful and so clear. Yes, it is well performed, well sung, and as equally crucial, well recorded. How else would we hear it, if the recording were not well done, which is greatly appreciated?
    As this piece is often performed around Christmas, there are many church choirs and oratorio societies that will view this piece in the future. I will let the listeners know a secret. Since it's very expensive to hire an orchestra to rehearse with, many of us choristers use RUclips videos, such as this one, to rehearse with. Then we hire a band for the dress rehearsal or just for the performance only. I know this because groups I have sung with have been doing it this way for as long as videos existed on RUclips. Previously we used to use cassettes (oh my, what are those? said all the kids.)
    Since this video has only been up for 10 months or so, and most concerts have been canceled this year (2020), I hope this video will get many views in the future. (It's also because you stuck to the choral score as far as I am concerned.) I plan to recommend it for rehearsals whenever we reschedule Sanctus.

    Gounod écrivit, hormis ses célèbres opéras (Faust (appellée Margarethe en Allemagne), Roméo et Juliette, Mireille, Le Médecin malgré lui...) des symphonies, de la musique de chambre (parmi laquelle se trouvent de fort belles chansons, deux-cents au total) et quinze Messes, dont l'absolument délicieuse Messe de Sainte-Cécile. Le Sanctus a été confié à un solo de ténor, repris par le Coeur. On entre dans l'extase. Le Paradis à portée de main. Gounod possédait un don spécial pour la mélodie, chantait lui-même dans le registre de ténor, et faillit devenir prêtre catholique, ce qui donna lieu à la profonde expressivité affective de cette musique. Egalement, la tessiture du ténor est traitée dans ce Sanctus, avec une liberté d'accent dans la zone aïgue qui est très proche de la célèbre Cavatine de Faust "Salut, demeure chaste et pure...". Il existait, au temps des long -plays, une version intégrale de l'oeuvre, enregistrée en France, dirigée par Jean-Claude Hartemann, dans laquelle Heinz Hoppe tenait le solo de ténor et chantait à merveille, justement, ce Sanctus. A présent, c'est le tour de Julian Prégardien, qui interprète le passage avec retenue et sagesse, sans en perdre pour autant le sens de la musicalité et de la piété. Car l'univers de Sainte Cécile, patricienne romaine devenue martyre, était justement celui-là: l'alliage d' une Foie solidement établie, avec la recherche de la beauté dans l'Art Musical. Sur la fin du passage, le solo de flûte traversière reprend la mélodie absolument délicieuse du début. Dans ce vidéo, il est à remarquer aussi la superbe filmation de l'intérieur du temple, avec des plans hardis parfaitement en accord avec les dorures barroques qui l'ornent. D'ailleurs l'architecture elle-même est très hardie, avec ses tournures étranges, mais magnifiques, des torsades et des lignes. Les plans montrant le public ébahi qui est au dehors du temple, et se réjouit de la musique, levant les regards vers le Ciel, sont formidables. On est au Ciel.

      I have listened to it 6 times, twice with the score in hand. The edition is G. Schirmers ed. 407, edited by Charles Barnby. The tenor solo appears spot on. You may have a different rendition. There are perhaps more than one.
