      @@AlainPicard I'm playing around with an old Rembrandt set of mine. I love the way pastels seamlessly go from a drawing medium to a painterly medium if that makes sense. Waiting for some of the softer brands you recommended to arrive in the mail. Thanks again!

    Alain..second viewing of one of your videos in 2 days and was inspired to dust some pastel on my large newsprint pad again. A shame, it turned out so well but will be short lived though each time I use the vibrant colors of pastels I learn more for my oil painting. Your advice was also hammered into my head by a marvelous artist that I have studied with for several years. The thumbnails, color sketches and choice of a color scheme is great advice. BTW..I am sure you are a successful artist but you have another great asset...a voice "made for radio" as an old saying goes. Without giving up what surely is your first love perhaps you should also explore a commercial use of a great baritone voice. I have an old actor friend who when TV and movies were no longer plentiful he turned to commercials with his voice and does quite well on that alone. Won't mention his name because he is well known and was in a long running TV series and many movies (several with John Wayne) but better known now for the distinctive voice. Really enjoy your great teaching.

    • @AlainPicard
      @AlainPicard  6 лет назад

      Hi Max, thanks for the encouragement on my "radio voice." I've heard that quite a bit throughout my life. I even took voiceover lessons for a while. All in all, it has helped the public speaking side of my life, who knows what the future will hold. So glad you were inspired to create in pastel! All the best

    I just discovered you. Love your style of teaching so much. I'm new to pastels, so I've been doing research on what types of pastels I should get. I've heard that panpastels go much further and don't fill up the tooth as fast as the sticks. Which do you prefer? Both kinds are very expensive so I would prefer buying one or the other plus pencils. Thanks!

    Hi Alain - I am an artist in the Colorado mountains. I have taken lots of art classes in the past but don’t have access to them here in our small town. Your videos have been so helpful in developing my pastel style. I’m also in recovery from a brain surgery so this is art therapy for me as well! Do you have tips for deciding when to use both warm and cool colors in a painting? Thanks!

    • @AlainPicard
      @AlainPicard  5 лет назад +1

      Dear Kim, thank you for sharing your kind words with me. I'm humbled and thrilled to hear that I've been able to encourage your creative development and style. I pray that your brain will awaken to full capacity and function again on the other side of this surgery, and your artistic abilities will soar. One simple tip about warm and cool might be that if the light source is warm, use cool colors in the shadows. If the light source is cool (eg. north light) then use warm colors in the shadows. Also apply this with complementary colors. Use a complement of the light source in the shadows. For instance, warm yellow light- use violet in the shadows. All the best!

    Just trying to get as much information as I can, I have some 90% alcohol from my marker collection can I use it for under painting? I am also considering investing in more than just pastel pencils, I did watch your video about which pastels to get but don’t remember you mentioning Rembrandt soft pastels, are they a good idea or should I avoid them? These are from Royal Talens in the Netherlands. Thank you for sharing your expertise and being so encouraging. Have A wonderful day.
