- Mhow, officially Dr. Ambedkar Nagar, is a cantonment in the Indore district in Madhya Pradesh state of India. It is located 23 kilometres south-west of Indore city, towards Mumbai on the old Mumbai-Agra Road. The town was renamed as Dr. Ambedkar Nagar in 2003, by the Government of Madhya Pradesh.
The Army War College, Mhow is a defence service training and research institution of the Indian Army located in Mhow, Madhya Pradesh. It develops and evaluates concepts and doctrines for tactics and logistics for the army. The college trains about 1,200 officers of the Indian Army, as well as paramilitary forces each year.
The college was originally established as the College of Combat at Mhow on 1 April 1971. It was spun out of the Infantry School, Mhow. It continued to operate from the campus of the Infantry School until 1988, when the college moved to its new campus. In 2003, the college was renamed as the Army War College, Mhow.

Mhow is always close to my heart . Becoz my father also serve in army .we had been there since 94 to 97. It is last serving place of my father.from here he take voluntery retirement .but army always closed to my heart. Becoz i almost grow up there in army environment. This place remind me all memories and time that i spend in army .all the roads , building i still remember. We used to live in jcos quater in r track sorry remember the properly but still want to visit this place to remind me old time .

An urban myth which seems to have become a 'fact' is that Mhow is an acronym for 'Military Headquarters of War' This isn't true.
Mhow was originally spelt as Mow from मऊ. But as it would get confused with the verb mow the H was introduced and Mow became Mhow. In Devanagari too मऊ became महू.
The only conflict/war that Mhow has seen was during July 1857 when troops of the 23rd Bengal Native Infantry and a squadron of the 1st Bengal Cavalry rebelled and killed three officers including CO and Adjutant of the 23rd BNI and the Sqn Commander of the sqn of the 1st Bengal Cavalry.
Mhow was the HQ of the 5th Indian Div after Kitchener's unification of the Presidency Armies and till World War II.
Of course Mhow is now Dr Ambedkar Nagar in honour of Dr Bhimrao Ambedkar.
The College of Combat was born in 1971 and Maj Gen O S Kalkat was the first Commandant. Lt Gen K Sundarji was Commandant ten years later. It was roughly in 1985 during Gen Tomar's tenure that the College of Combat shifted from the Infantry School campus where it was born to its present location.
