This was simple and straight forward video to setup Chrony NTP server, i was searching over internet and found lot of documents which are complex and i did not work for me. before I install chrony [proxmoxVE] (thanks a bunch for your super video saved me a day's grief and at 35C here cabling fibre etc that's great) I saw that in your clip some data regarding ppm (parts per million) etc this is probably the chrony learning the server clock drift and (mathematical) compensating for it in the regular updates FROM the remote atomic clock so the Network time in the server is as good as UTC or as we say here ZULU 🙂in future in my lab I think i'll buy a surplus GPS time and frequency reference source so (theoretically) I can sync to UTC/atomic time from GPS without using the internet - just like most military and cellphone systems do....I think most windoze clients can adjust for their geographically related time requirements so their displays are just fine for the locality etc
Thank you for the great video. I followed the steps and the chrony server worked fine. Only one thing, when I use command chronyc clients, every client's hostname listed below is bogon, not real hostname or IP address. Can you help me out? Thanks!
Yes, internet connection is required as installing the package and synchronising with the pools both require internet access. Also, don't forget to allow UDP port 123 on your firewall if you have one.
