thank you so much for taking the time to record farm life videos , as well as Peiter and your extended family for being good sports and not shy to be part of the presentation. Last part , the electric fence tester brings a smile to my face. Back in the day dad was a progressive farmer in so many ways , but why buy a fence current tester , when you have 2 sons near by to instruct to check if the wire has power. Well older brother Ian or myself took turns , same procedure , select a long brome grass plant , naively thinking we were safe , and would only feel a tingle... never failed , always same outcome , advance the grass half way , and ZAP. OK, dad , the electric fence is working!!
On a recent video , you shared how well the grain corn was yielding at your field as well as Halarda farm's field , thank you for that detail... it is amazing how far corn has evolved. I can recall dad selecting a silage variety to plant 60 acres close to the yard , as well as a grain variety for 60 acres a mile east of the yard. If we harvested all 120 acres for silage , great, if it got too dry , dad would stop, and hire a neighbor to combine the last 25 acres or so for grain , happened once either 1981 or 82.. recall 85 bushels per acre , selling it to the local Pool elevator for something like $3.50/bushel , and smiling.Wow , varieties available now have close to double the yield potential ( and operating input cost are high , so the farmer needs the higher yield ! )
When I was younger on the farm in manitoba we called our cows( coboss coboss) & they would come Love this time a year! When will you wean calves? When will you do preg checking?
