I like this view because you could actually see his dad in the background clapping after he did his last jumping pass.
He's got both INSANE athleticism and surreal grace. Pulling off a performance like that has gotta take an incredible amount of focus and dedication and I wish more people respected that.
I watch him to make me believe that the new generation will reform this old world at last. Endless bravo to the young man!

It was a breathtaking performance. Totally hypnotic, defying the laws of gravity, outside of time. A treat to have this feat immortalized for posterity. Sublime that Ilia Malinin won this world champion title, the well-deserved first place. So charismatic, physical, powerful, aerial, flexible, theatrical, among other talents of high virtuosity. I have just one comment to make about Ilia's jumping ability - He seems as comfortable in the air as he is on the ice.

Must have watched 50 times, to celebrate Ilia’s exquisite goodness in this crazy world. Finally I watched at half speed, to appreciate his artistry and technical expertise in the 6 quads .

My favorite reaction is his dad on the last jump the triple axel, at that point he was so ecstatic for his child. Just a genuine reaction!

I have been watching figure skating since the 60's and have seen many incredible programs but by far this is the absolute best I have ever watched!
I absolutely agree - I'm 68 and never in my lifetime have I ever watched a more perfect program. I think we might be watching the greatest male skater of all time...and he's only 19!! Wow!

Малинин даже на секундочку не приблизился к Ханю в манере хореографии и чувства музыки. Не смотрится выступление, оно как будто только для прыжков, а не для души.

🍃🌞🍃 ~ Ни то, ни другое, ни третье. Только прыжки. Крутки в воздухе Малинина, не то что некрасивы, просто обычные, не впечатляют. Самое красивое положение тела сверху до низу, - только у Hanyu.
Вышел как на последний бой и вспомнил, что он русский. Русские - талантливые и трудолюбивые, а мыколы заборы да унитазы тырят.

His spins during that final combination 3Lutz+3Axel were timed exactly to the music, it was complete artistic perfection and utter magic! Did you see his Dad’s reaction in the background when he landed the 3Axel? And that at the end of a rigorous performance with 6 quads.

One of the best things about Ilia is that he looks like he truly, truly loves to skate. His natural musicality and artistry are things that cannot be taught, and when he skates he is SO into the music and performance, the choreography becomes totally natural and organic. He's a joy to watch.

This presentation was so great with the sound limited to the beautiful music and the crowd reaction rather than the commentary on the jumps. His movements between the jumps were so impressive, purposeful, poised and poignant. An unparalleled achievement for the ages . . . Awe inspiring!
And it was also great without the incessant commentators' babble, who ruin every quad by talking it to death before, during and after!

You're so right! The clapping annoys me bc I think nothing should disrupt the skater's beautiful music, but as you said, at least no commentators blabbing throughout.

I was there and I will be going to Boston. I'm 64 yo and have been following figure skating since Grenoble '68. To see this in person this year was clearly one of this year's highlights. A perfect weekend in Montreal, capped by this performance. This video (among the many I've seen) is the one that best captures the sound and the feeling in that arena. Shoma was supposed to win, the Japanese were poised, Ilia was in 3rd and then at the last performance he does this. I don't think people really understand how much the crowd was for Shoma and Yuma. I could feel it. I'm so so grateful that I was there to witness this, because there will always be a first for him, and everything about what he did and how the crowd responded was so incredible. I have to say that because I was and am a Nathan fan, I feel badly for Nathan in that because of COVID, he never had the World Championship moment in 2021 that he should have. He skated to Philip Glass and the only spectators were the skating community. Even in Bejiing he was robbed. Ilia thankfully will not know that.

А мне нравится скольжение Ильи. Да, он гораздо выше ростом, чем остальные фигуристы, поэтому и смотрится на льду иначе. Мы привыкли к низкорослым спортсменам, ведь высокому практически невозможно исполнять ультра си, а Илья может! Это фантастика!
Парень молодой, но очень талантливый и очень трудолюбивый. С характером. Упорный. Сильный. Сашу Трусову напоминает.
Посмотрим. Изящества, элегантности, харизмы нет. Одни прыжки. Кому что нравится в фигурном катании. Пару лет и в отставку.

Если бы фигурное катание было бы из одних прыжков, то это было бы великолепно, но великолепие состоит в целом соответствии прыжков и доп.элементов. Великолепными были- Юдзуру Ханю, Нейтан Чен и Сема Уно, и др. А здесь нет того великолепия...
